Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
if you change the pose of the pz3 in poser then you can easily change it in carrara with transposer which came with this software. it's supposed to be okay with importing dynamics but i haven't tried yet love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
That's so cool! Did you make the furniture and everything before importing the figure? Or is this a PZ3 rendered in Carrara? How long did it take to render? I think I tried a demo a while back and liked the interface which is a big deal with me. Just never got any further. But I love what you've done!!!
well that's a preset scene that comes with carrara so i just imported the vickie with clothes on. it only took about 5-10mins to render i think. love esther

Whoohoo this is cool! I definitely have to look into Carrara.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
Carrara is a nice app. The majority of the images in my gallery (all of them in fact, until Poser 6 came out) are rendered in Carrara. For the price it's got quite a lot of nice features, and it's considered to be a relatively quick render engine as well. Version 5Pro is especially nice when it comes to integrating poser content. I still need to install the update patch on my copy though--I understand it fixes a few issues relating to importing Poser content in "native" mode (as opposed to Transposer).
Another question...how would you compare the render time with Poser 6? And are we compairing it to P6 with IBL/AO? I'm still using P4 renderer because I'm too impatient to wait and tie my computer up for 12 hrs for a large render. I like to render around 2200 on the large side for post work or printing. So it just takes too long with Firefly. I just love the way the girl rendered. Just beautiful. At first I thought she was real in a 3d room. Thanks for sharing this!
Oh yeah. I'm a big fan of Carrara. I was able to pick up Carrara 3 for a song at Purplus Software a few years ago and then upgrade to v4 and then v5. It's the app that finally got me into creating my own models (although I mostly use Rhino now). I've found rendering times to be much quicker than Poser and at (usually) better quality.

Hi, there is a learning curve with carrara. I haven't been playing with it long. But some things are easier too. And of course it does landscapes so you can do external scenes as well. And there is a toonrenderer plugin which I am just starting to play with. I'll have to keep you posted on that one. Love esther

Great renders Ester and Wolf359!!
Carrara has HDRI and true GI, which is much better than the IBL in P6. Rendering in Carrara is much faster than in Poser, unless you use HDRI, full ray tracing, indirect lighting, volumetric clouds, and crank up all your settings to the max quality on a complex scene, then things will slow down a lot (of course with P6 your chances of even rendering a complex scene at max settings aren't real good). With the Pro version you also get a 5 node render license to create your own 5 processor render farm if you have additional computers connected via a network, so if things (rendering) get too slow on one machine, you can add a couple render nodes to reduce render times.

OK, I keep seeing references to Render Farms. Can you give a little more info? If I have a laptop connected to my main system via network then render times are faster because of the increased resources? Of course it's not a powerful or new laptop. Kind of a crappy HP. This got me so interested that I just downloaded a demo of Carrara 5. Can't wait to play.

Atelier Ariel,"What exactly is a render farm? The term render farm in general means a collection of networked computers, called nodes, all rendering some part or all of a frame of animation. This is what computer scientists might call a loosely-coupled supercomputer made up of SP (single processor) or SMP (symmetric multiprocessor) nodes. A render farm is simply a collection of computers connected through a LAN running special software."
This explanation is from the attached link (more information caan be found there).
Hope this helps, have fun with the demo!

Here's some renders from my gallery along with render times. This one rendered in about 2 hours: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1003578&Start=1&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes This one maybe an hour half IIRC (but it was rendered at a larger size, and the DoF blur took another minute or two): http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=560981&Start=46&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes This one took about 45 minutes with a single spotlight and Global Illumination turned on. Actual rendered size was a bit larger than the gallery image: http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=607708&Start=31&Artist=GabrielK&ByArtist=Yes I have had a few 3 (or more) hour renders, but usually they were either quite large, had a lot of transparencies, or had all the render setting cranked up to max values.

Works well with XP Home and XP Pro. I can set up a scene on my laptop with XP Home, and use my desktop with XP Pro as 2 additional render nodes (dual processor).I tested C5Pro on the file I used to create the image in the attached link (this original was done with C4 Pro), and it took about 3.5 hours (all settings at the highest quality, using HDRI and indirect lighting) on a 2.2 GHz P4M Laptop (no render nodes). The hair and the rock texture take the longest to render.
