Subject: 2 DAZ questions

How do we update D|S plugins or programs like mimic? I am wondering if we know there is an update(studio says so) and where to get it. Do we just reset downloads? I am asking here because I was already here. Also, the Mil textures I got w/ the new Baby seem a bit odd on eyebrows and eyelashes. The texture and alphas don't seem clean. This is causing my rendering problems, I believe in C5. Wondering if maybe someone knew something about the textures either that there was a problem or that they were made that way for a reason. D|S handles channels differently and I noticed some things I didn't understand there, as well.Like white is used w/the actual jpg texture for eyebrows or eyelashes. Don't know if that is a mix or what. I haven't even got in 1.2 yet just downloaded it. Exciting!

Just reset your downloads in your account history. Takes about 30 minutes to process. I have no answer to your second.

More stuff than you can keep track of? Try the free Poser Download Tracker.

Poser and DAZ|Studio use transparency maps for things like eyebrows and lashes. These texture images are basically negative images of the item--those parts that are opaque/visible are white in the transmap, while the transparent/invisible areas are black.

Reset your downloads for all your plugins and reinstall them. This is becuase the new dynamic library in 1.2 so the older versions of the plugins wont work with it. Reinstalling them takes care of the problem! :D

Thanks everybody. I found the support download area also, but I have plugins that need updating so wasn't sure. PA I do understand transmaps, but these really don't look right. The trans for example has a dirty ghost around the eyebrow. The texture itself is an almost completely black jpeg that has a barely noticable eyebrows or eyelashes that are barely not black. It doesn't even look to follow the scheme of the other maps.In D|S it is coupled w/ a white for the diffuse and that doesn't appear to import with the model.Specular is equivalent to highlight so wasn't sure how that conveyed. I may just have to make my own eyebrows/eyelashes, but I was curious because they looked a bit odd.I didn't really get to look too well at these 2 maps which is what I need to do.

I got it. The file is bigger and newer in the free archive.

I just took a look at my Mil Baby maps, and the trans (MilBaby3_Trans.jpg) is black with white lashes and eyebrow hairs. I'm not seeing any smudging or ghosting on the trans map--the black areas are black, and the white areas are white. There's actually a texture file for the lashes--MilBaby3Lashes_DIFF.jpg, which has a gradient brown shading dark to light brown from base to tip of the lashes. That's why it's applied over a diffuse color of white. You could just eliminate the texture file altogether and use a brown or black diffuse color combined with the existing trans map.

Personally, I thought it was...well, stupid...that the baby isn't mapped to match all the other Mil figures, so I remapped mine to use my MilKids textures. The only baby texture I use is Thorne and Sarsa's Lily.

Thanks PA, I got is straight. The smudgy one was the trans bump map. My main concern was the smudgy look that comes up sometimes with poser figures in carrara, but it appears to be a GI problem.By the way I like the new changes in D|S lot more on export.

Missed that one altogether! Don't have any way to check the C5 issues, as I don't use it. Could it be related to the alpha channel? I don't know that previous versions of D|S used it, and my graphics program doesn't use it either, so I wouldn't have noticed that.

It is alpha channel issue, but a GI bug they are now aware of. The way D|S uses colors in channels w/ maps was something I was curious about, but I think I have that down. When importing in Carrara the alphas don't come in and neither do the color combinations w/ maps. Annoying. Since they are supposedly partners I hope they get it down better. Lotta Carrara people appear to be using D|S now. I have been spreading the word ;)Importing and exporting is really a big pain! Always something.
