Subject: Project Dogwaffle / GIMP / Genetica / Photoseam / other 2d software

Is there a forum for discussing these fascinating software programs for which there is no specific forum established? The 2D Graphics program seems to focus more on the results rather than the process....which I have no problem with, but sometimes there is a benefit to being able to talk about the technical side of using the software.

2D graphics would be the place to discuss these, technical discussions about project dogwaffle & gimp do sometimes come up but unfortunately there don't seem to be many members using the forum with much experience of them so it doesn't get far. Feel free to bring it up in the forum & encourage anyone else you know who uses any of these to take part too if you like!

That's great...thank you! Some of these program have some excellent features that I'd like to learn more about, but I've never been sure where to post.

My pleasure, it would be good to see some discussion about different apps get going in the forum, I hope other users will join in too so we all learn something!

I think it would be nice if the front page/newsletter highlighted the different forums...I don't think new people really know the wonderful resources available on Renderosity (by which I mean, our community contributors in the various forums as well as the more regularly visited areas).

That might be a good idea, why not suggest it to Dee-Marie & see what she thinks.

Oh, I've suggested it before. I imagine it is on a list of a thousand other things that will be done on the front page. No big.

I am speaking for myself now. It's a conumdrum. I write reviews on software, post a notice in the pertinent forum or don't post a notice in the forum and sometimes the review is ignored. Month later, someone will find it on my website and tell everyone. But, it was on Renderosity all along and still is in the archives.

I would love to see communication between the forums and the Front Page. In a few weeks, I will post the pre-release review of Genetica 2.5 Pro. If the full release is available, I will supstitute it and make changes where necessaruy. It is a dynamight upgrade and free to licensed users of Genetica 2.

If someone wants to give me their name, I will be happy to tell them a little before the week that it goes up. On the other hand, I will mention that a specific forum will be discussing it. I can do that on a lot of the tutorials I write and the reviews. But I would not want to lose the readers opinions section and have everthing transfer to a forum. That would be my only concern.

I do agree definately to check with Dee-Marie about this, but unless I am missing a protocol somewhere, I can't foresee a problem.

"....and sometimes the review is ignored." I'm assuming you mean that the article isn't commented on, but that doesn't mean people didn't read it. I find the constant need for commenting on Renderosity very tiring. The people posting on the galleries want comments, the merchants want comments on their products, the writers on the front page wants comments on articles. I understand the need to know you reached an audience, but I don't comment on newspapers, magazines, television shows, visits to the museums, films, so I'm not likely to comment on everything on Renderosity. I just don't enjoy commenting on things just for the sake of commenting. I'd like to be able to say more than "wow, that's great," but I don't have it in me. I read the parts of the front page, and the reviews when they are about software I use. I don't comment on everything I read, but that doesn't mean that the review has been ignored. I've been using Genetica 2.5 (not the Pro version) since it came out in beta form so, of course, I'll read the review. But other than saying the predictable, "gee, that's good information," so you know the review was read, what would a comment from me add to the review? That may be poor form on my part, but that's just the way it is. It's not personal. I don't write letters to writers of books, magazine articles, or newspaper reporters either. I've never seen a front page versus the forums thing. What I do see is people get isolated in their forums and identify with them and don't always realize there are other places to check out on Renderosity. It's the nature of the beast, I guess, but I don't think it would hurt if the email newsletter highlighted something other than the Marketplace and the Front Page once in awhile. But, as I say, I've been down this road before. I have no expectations.

I am not speaking about commenting at all. I am speaking about not going to the Front Page nor the FPN news archives and then discovering the article that was appliciable to their forum somewhere else. Also, I like comments and opinions because I have learned many things from my readers. I have learnt about other similar programs, ways to use the program that I might not have thought of, and opinions about the program itself. The comments don't have to be "wow, that great" although it is nice when you have worked hard on a tutorial or a review tohave it acknowledged. You mentioned that you use the beta of Genetica 2.5. Well, since I wrote about Pro, here would be the perfect opportunity to possibly comment on the difference. Those are the type of comments I like to get. I am still more than willing to work with moderators of forums when I write a review that is pertinent to their forum. All they have to do is contact me and I will keep a list and can always mention that topics concerning a specific program will be discussed in a particular forum. I don't know if you mentioned DogWaffle for a reason, but you might want to go into FPN Archives and look it up since since Dee-Marie reviewed it sometime in 2005.

Hi dialyn, Always great to see your postings.

The Renderosity Newsletter is created by Lillian. If there is something specific that is going on in a forum that you, or anyone, would be interested in, please drop LillianH a note. I am sure she would love to hear from you.

You wrote: I don't comment on newspapers, magazines, television shows, visits to the museums, films, so I'm not likely to comment on everything on Renderosity.

I agree with you, I also do not comment on newspapers, magazines, television shows, visits to the museums, films ... mostly because it is not easy to do so. It is generally a daylong task to find the mailing or email address to be able to comment. That is the beauty of Renderosity members have the opportunity to instantly respond to articles. Members can ask questions, or leave additional information, or if they feel like it they can just say "Wow, thanks for the great article!"

The Front Page News team is always looking for community members to offer their ideas for article topics. If anyone has a software product, interview, article, cartoon strip, or tutorial that they would like to have us feature on the Front Page News, please drop me [deemarie] a note.

[For past Front Page News articles, please click on the above link, or click on the sidebar Highlights/FPN News Archives.]

Wishing you and your family a most wonderful New Year!

Paula links to the Front Page articles are posted in the forum each week & if I see something I think will be of particular interest to the 2D members I'll often post a message to bring it to their attention & I know some of them do find your section very helpful but you're more than welcome to post a message yourself in the forum to draw attention to your articles. Thank you. I hope to be doing some mini-tutorials later this year that will be especially 2D applicable. I will be sure to post info about those and any others. I've started a list. Have a good weekend. Paula
