I wanted to give it a more high tech look with lots of glowing readouts but maintain the image of a cockpit so i put this texture for it together and came up with this.

Excellent indeed! Now all we need is a Viper pilot's helmet and a Kara Thrace V3 morph!

Did you change the UV Map at all. If you didn't, and your texture can be used with the original Viper, I am sure that John will host your map as a freebie if you want to release it. Just IM him and ask.

I had to export the cockpit from the model and give it a new uv map. What your seeing here is the original cockpit has been made invisable by turning up the trans to full blast to hide it. then i parented the new cockpit in place of where the old one was. Since it was the same mesh I knew it was going to be a perfect fit, Be real cool if i could import the uv map somehow from the map to the obj of the original. Im not sure how to get in touch with John, What i thought was his e mail was not his e mail, ill look in the readme to see if he has an e mail there. I don't know his member name here at all if he is a member here.

or you can get hold of him through the contact page at Vanishing Point. Do you know how to make a UVS file? If you do, you can make this texture fit on the original as well.

Not sure about that i had to break the cock pit down to uv map each piece, im not sure if it would assume the same uv coordintes in poser if i used a uvs translation? I sent him a message.

Tucan-Tiki ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 12:31 PM

well it was simple to do, All I did was make a copie of the original cockpit, I imported that into truespace 3 and blew it apart, I then took each polygon surface and uv mapped them one by one and then I grouped or glued the whole model together again after testing each texture on the parts of the cockpit. I then converted the model useing deep exploration to obj with a uv save file. When i imp[orted it into poser 4 I textured it there first then i opened it up in poser 6 and made some corrections oin the textures menue. I then loaded the original model made all cockpit parts invisable and lined up and scaled the copie of the cockpit I textured to where the original is and parented it to the Viper.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 12:40 PM

Although the job you have done is awesome. The cockpit is pretty tight. Wondering how in the world is the pilot going to turn its back to touch those dials behind the seat, even on the rear sides.

Maybe because those are maintanance readouts and access ways for shuttle prep and diagnostics only used by techs when the shuttle is docked and only used by the pilot when the ship is on the ground or dead in space. the glowing blue touch panels on the left and right of the pilot are similar to a fuse box except they control everything from electrical systems &computer to reactor output. now maybe i went nuts a bit with the led lights and and diles but i would simply say those can be everything from comfort zone controls to postioning of the pilots seat as well as eva enviromental access controls for a space suit. on the main dash you have the artificial intellegence in orange the main computer, the monitor center displaying everything from nearby enemies to incomming signals, and left and right in blue is the reactor readouts and flight controls radar altitude and orientation, in red are the charging units for the ships weapons, top touch pad center top to lock out access to the cockpit, it also finctions to type in jamming codes and reprogram the computer if needed. ect ect ect alot of the cockpit space in such a small fighter would need to be used up for alot of other stuff like access to gasses for the lasers, access to circuit boards and other stuff I would really expect such a craft to use every inch of space in the cockpit because the craft is small there is limited space for the pilot to move about.

JHoagland ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 3:49 PM

My name is spelled "JHoagland". If these textures work on the existing model, then we can make a MAT pose and offer the textures as a separate add-on. The biggest issue with remapping a model after it's been in release is that many people have already downloaded the model. They would have to re-download the new version of the model to be able to use the changed UV mapping and texture maps. This Viper model is a 4.35M zip file and has already been downloaded over 3,000 times. If 1,000 people re-download the file (1/3 of the existing downloads), this will create over 4,000M of bandwidth traffic (or 4G) of traffic... for one item! --John

may I make a suggestion? a mat pose to make the original cockpit invisible then smartprop the new one. then users can just download a small zip as an addon to the existing model...

Tucan-Tiki ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 4:05 PM

Sorry I misspelled your name, I agree how can i get this prop to you for you to release it?

Tucan-Tiki ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 4:13 PM

I don't know how to access my comcast ftp, is there a way you can post this as a addon at vanishing point? I can gather up the materiels and the prop and send it to you by e mail but you would have to message me here and let me know where to send it. Ill make it a conforming prop.

Petunia ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 4:39 PM · edited Tue, 24 January 2006 at 4:40 PM

Actually, you can do just a uv file in uv mapper that can be read into uvmapper by other people, and it will remap the already downloaded object. By the way, that texture looks very nice. Good work.

Holy Frack! that's a good looking cockpit :-)

Why shouldn't speech be free? Very little of it is worth anything.

Helgard ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 7:16 PM

Please note that this file will need the original model to work, but will not work with the original model. Because the model has been altered, for Tucan to release this file on it's own will be useless, unless he can find a way to make the it work with the original model. Have you tried a UVS file? Have you tried a MAT file to make the original cockpit invisible to be able to smart prop your version into it? Like John says, we can't remake a model every time someone adds on to it, because that will lead to hundreds of versions of the same model, and then if someone makes an add on texture for the original, it may not work with the later versions, etc. I agree that the texture is excellent, and I would love to have it available, but a way must be found to do this without saddling Vanishing Point with thousands more downloads, and without leading to various versions of the same model.

"Have you tried a UVS file? Have you tried a MAT file to make the original cockpit invisible to be able to smart prop your version into it?" have you? you see I'm thinking of just turning the cockpit thats in there invisible then plonking that in. sorry to potentially saddle you with downloads. ok to host elsewhere tho?

Tucan-Tiki ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 7:20 PM

first of all it does work with the original model because it is a part of the original model, it's simply a copie of the cockpit itself retextured all you would have to do is make all cockpit partws invisable and apply the conforming prop, I don't know what i need to do to make a mat file to make the parts invisable but i can say all you got to do is turn trans to full blast and turn off higlights and spectral.

Tucan-Tiki ( ) posted Tue, 24 January 2006 at 7:24 PM · edited Tue, 24 January 2006 at 7:27 PM

this would act as a seperate download an addon, snce it's a conforming prop and a mat file could be made for it if i had some help from someone here who knew how to do that, it could be made in to an easy to apply conforming prop. cant use uvs because the model was blown apart and regrouped with a new uv map, the coordinates of the model have been moved and would not match the uvs coordinates in poser to make a uvs file I think.

Great use any image you need, I sent the zip file to you, it is rathewr large because at the last minute i included cr2 files rsr and scene file pz3 just in case people have trouble you may not need the cr2 files after all.

pz3 wont load the model unless they download the original obj but i think it can store prop data.

One question who is treybor? I am now starting to work on creating Viper Pilots, I think I can get the guys and gals to looks pretty realistic, Along with the viper textures it should be pretty killer.
