Well, I'm not anything like AgentSmith...just chose it because I knew it would be recognizable to the Matrix movie for probably...forever. Love "The Matrix"...and "Neo" was already taken, lol. AS

Poor judgement on the nik, but excellent taste on the whisky! Definitely my favorite, although, I do love Lagavulin... Ah, those Islay malts!
Here in California, "Stoner" means a druggie, but in this world market, I'm not so sure. Worst case, here, is pot. We've a lot worse names fo other users... Of course, you could be a mason or someone who installs granite countertops!

Must admit I first thought of a pot smoker, but I don't lend that much credence to a nick, especially where lots of people have english as a second language. I wouldn't worry about it, it's actions that define a person not a nickname, now pass that whisky (personally I'd go with Talisker or Glen Livet as a favorite)

Well.... I will have to agree with Gog CA1.... The nickname doesn't necessarily mean anything more than it is a nickname. So don't worry about it and let's all have about 5 shots of your good whiskey. lol
There are 10 kinds of people: Those who know binary, and those who don't.Â
AÂ whiner is about as useful as a one-legged man at an arse kicking contest.
Sorry to hear you feel that way about your screen-name. There's nothing wrong with it as far as I can see. Then of course some of us get it right 1st time!...;-) (ducks to avoid the flying rocks..)

That is what I thought of when I saw "stoner" as a pothead (sorry)... but now I will know when I see your screen name it doesn't mean that. There are a lot of people who use pot and are proud enough to parade around with a name like that. I hope you don't have problems with it, but you may. I don't like whiskey either. :oP Well, that doesn't mean anything to me, but I do like some Austrian dark Bier once in a while, or a glass of wine. I even cook with wine every now and then too. I see there are some whiskey fans here too.
I wouldn't worry about it. Sure, it can have a negative conotation to some people,........but hey,.....so what. It's what we know you as,...........and as a former stoner,......I might find it troubling to get used to a new nik. My sreen name comes from the fact that I love to sleep. When I was a baby I used to sleep about 18 hours a day,..........so my mom used to tell people that I was a real "sackrat",.......sack being an old American slang term for a bed.

Since I first saw your nickname, I think I've seen it twice in books referring to devoted pot smokers. And not even once brought it into connection with you. What's in a name? Do you think I'm really Erlik? As I think I said before, I swiped it from a Conan comic, where it was a particularly nasty demon. Since then I discovered that it's a demon from Lapp mythology, too. Apparently some kind of Lapp equivalent to Satan. And I'm very kind to small furry amimals and kids. :-) Gog, you're my idol. Talisker over Laphroaig any day!

Yes, here in the UK a "stoner" means much the same as it does in the US, but you get used to it after a while and for me it also conjured up thoughts of Rock Music, which IS cool - Heavy Metal is anyway. But you are still you, so it's your choice whether you want to change it or not. AS, "The Matrix"??? Oh... Funny, I thought it was a reference to MIB, tut tut tut, and there I was picuring this cool dude in a dark suit and black shades - pity.

In the Day World books by Philip Jose Farmer a Stoner was a machine used to freeze people as hard as stone. The government had the people believe the population was so large it would be impossible for everybody to habitate the world at the same time. As an answer they devised a system where you were only awake on one day a week. The rest of the time you spent inside your STONER.
Yeah, ratscloset summed it up nicely. Besides, what's in a name anyway? Look at what some musicians name their bands. I love music of all kinds and I've learned that you just can't judge by a name. For weeks I heard this fantastic song on the radio but never knew the name of the song or the group until finally one day they anounced it as "Soul Meets Body" by...."Death Cab for Cutie"! Who knew! The first thing I thought was "very stange name but fantastic music"! As for me, my nick is a state of being. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who really gets it but that's okay, lol.

Thank you all for your comments on the subject. I now feel that I can worry about other things. Like tasting some of the above mentioned whiskys Ive missed. Just wanted to ask this and in the same time make a statement regarding my use of drugs. When it comes down to pot Ive as well as many other youths used it a couple of times. Now Im older and Ive found other ways to be stupid.

No its not a technical question. I just wondered about a thing I need some opinions on. As english isnt part of my natural habitat I didnt think so much when I decided to use Stoner as my nick. But, time passes and Ive realized that my nickname could be relating to someone deeply devoted to drugs. Thats not a proper description of me. My intentions was only to have a cool sounding nick and Im also very fond of the music-genre called stoner-rock. The only drug Im really devoted to is Laphroig, and thats whisky. I dont want my nick to give the wrong image of me. Please help me out with this. Am I right in my suspicion? Have I been careless?
