I've come to the conclusion that one will never become a Card Carrying Renderosity Member until one complains about something regarding the site,TOS,administration, the site software, the MP,or anything else relating to the function and/or form of the site. So I hereby formally post this as my official "complaint" thread, and I DEMAND, that my card and PIN number be sent immediately. Oh...What is my complaint, you say? Doesn't matter...feel free to pick one for me. The context of the complaint is not important. The fact that I'm complaining at all should guarantee my membership. 8 ) Tom

"scarcasm"

Love those inadvertant neologisms ("farticles" was one I found not too long ago) ;D

But if this is a rare licensed-to-moan thread (and I so, so do miss the OT forum) then...

I don't like the baby in the new MP intro page. I'm sure it's a surpassingly cute baby in real life, but the page looks like the cover of one of those mommy-and-kid magazines with that pic. A toon baby would have been a far better choice for this site.

OK. Grinch mode off.

Over the course of nearly 5 years, I've managed to be involved in "complaint" threads involving all of the above. Sometimes I have defended the site, sometimes not. Sometimes I've flip-flopped when I realized I didn't really care about what I was complaining about. I have 6 cards, complete with PIN's and I'm going to see if I can put them in the MP here, and if not, then maybe on E-Bay... for those of you who want one, but don't have the time to complain yourself. Doesn't matter...feel free to pick one for me. The context of the complaint is not important. The fact that I'm complaining at all should guarantee my membership. OK, Tom, I've decided that you don't like the little star next to "Add Your Listing" in the web circle thingie. In fact, it irritates you way beyond anything else recently, and it's been grating on you for a long time now. More than anything, you would like to see it removed and replaced with a nekkid V3 holding a sword in a temple, because that would seem more appropriate. But, you're flexible on that; the main thing being the star has got to go. But, it ain't gonna happen, so please quit your whining and just move on, for God's sake, would you? There are those of us here who just want to enjoy the site in peace, you know. ;)

There are many levels of CC's (Complaint Cards) of varying degrees. I'm currently working on my "Aluminum Foil" card. It's the introductory card and all complainers must start with this one. All it takes to get the Tin Foil Card is a complaint of any kind, and it starts the process of acquiring all of the following cards. Next there is the: Copper Card Zink Card Lead Card Nickel Card Tin Card Brass Card Silver Card Gold Card Platinum Card Titanium Card I may have missed some in there as well. I'm not sure what the complaint requirements are to obtain these higher level cards, but I'm sure someone here has a more comprehensive explanation of what it takes to get each one. I do know that the PIN numbers are transferable from card to card, and they can be sold and traded like any other commodity. 8 ) Tom

Well Tom, you know, the more I think about it, I don't like that star either, so you can count me in as well. As of right now, I am giving Renderosity notice that if the star is not gone within 24 hours from the time of this post, I am leaving 4-EVAH! And I'm taking my rather sizable gallery and STORE with me, not to mention all my Free Stuff. And I might also be able to talk one or tewo people into refusing to visit the site for a day or two. I too am standing with arms crossed, tapping foot, which I'll continue to do for the next 24 hours, or until I get hungry and have to make dinner, or maybe not that long, but it'll be a while. Or not. Understand though that at the moment I look very menacing. So they've moved up to aluminum foil as a starting card? Used to be paper, then cardboard, then velour. I guess now that the MP has really taken they can afford better materials.

The lowest level of card is a jpg card. you add your picture and you can print it out on whatever you want. Next is a psd card which you can edit in photoshop to suit individual taste and print out on whatever you want (even plutonium or adamantium) edited for typos

After doing a bit of research about the way the "Cards" work,I've discovered that one can "Skip" levels by simply starting a new thread and complaining with a question that has been asked only a day or so ago and has been discussed to death. You see...this is especially annoying to the staff because it's obvious the complainer simply can not or will not take the time to read threads,(Some of which are on the very same page) that ask and answer the very subject they are complaining about. So if you are trying to climb the "Card Carrying Member" ladder, simply read nothing and just complain away in a new thread. Each time it is done, the complainer skips a level. Using this approach,I'll get that "NOBELIUM CARD" in no time. Tom<~~~ still tapping foot

Site Speed... An oxymoron

My SQL messages... MY SQL stays put; YOURS should learn to be so well-behaved

TOS... I'm all for Tom's Old Sneakers, but he needs to wash them.

Unfair application of the TOS... The less I know about this, the better.

recieving too many e-bots... Where's my damn EBOTS?

Moderator/Coordinator abuse of power... Yeah, and I'll be SURPRISED if this thread doesn't get LOCKED and/or DISAPPEARED!!

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Fri, 27 January 2006 at 5:02 AM

Okay...it looks like the star is going to remain. but that's okay..remember,it doesn't matter if your particular complaint gets resolved to get your new card. Just the complaint itself is good enough. Renderosity sent me my brand new "Aluminum Foil" card, complete with PIN. This motivated me to continue and try for my "Copper Card". I had read the fine print and it seems that complaints don't have to be just about things relating to the function and/or form of the site. The fine print is pretty small but if I understand correctly, the complaint can be about just about anything. (Or anybody for that matter). So I'm going to try my hand at one not specifically related to the site function but rather about " Member Posting Habits". For example...When making a post that includes a link,is it really that difficult to use the URL box provided at the bottom of the reply form?...I mean...your posting a link anyway...probably copying and pasting it. But is there some reason folks don't use the URL box and just paste it into the body of the text reply? It's not like they are being expected to write and use fancy shmancy html code. Lets examine the difference it makes: Using the URL Box: 1)Click on the link and the browser happily opens a new window to the link. OR Not using the URL Box It certainly would save folks from having to: 1) Copy the url, (and hope that the url is not all run together with other text or ending with periods that need to be edited out) 2) Either paste the link directly into the browser that is open, and then have to navigate back to the thread to reply OR: 3) Launch a new browser instance and paste the url in that one. 4) Click "Go"or hit enter to get to the linked page. Okay...if multiple links are being posted, then that is understood,...remember..nobody is expecting perfectly formatted html code. But if it's one link, how hard is it to be considerate and use the url box provided? Okay..I've got more complaints but I don't wanna use them all up at once. Hopefully this will get me my copper card and I can move on to Zinc. Bruce...I'd like to formally request some abuse from you so I can be armed with future complaints. 8 )~ Tom

MikeJ ( ) posted Fri, 27 January 2006 at 4:56 PM

Well, I'm not Bruce, but perhaps I can be of some assistance? ahem Tom, this incessant whining gets OLD! First the damn star graphic, now URL's ?! And further, you have violated the TOS somehow or other...ummm...yeah, by requesting abuse, you are guilty of intent to incite nastiness. (Article 107, section 3, exception 32.b) Dammit, man, you can have MY friggin' Zinc Card if it'll just get you to be a happy camper! I just can't believe this thread hasn't been locked yet. It's almost like they're not even paying attention. Why, we could probably say anything we want in here, and nobody would notice. Hmmm....

Hawkfyr ( ) posted Fri, 27 January 2006 at 6:50 PM

MikeJ, Thanks for the offer for the Zinc card. BUT ... You forgot the complaint I made in Post 21. Perhaps I was a bit too subtle concerning the "starting a new thread and complaining with a question that has been asked only a day or so ago and has been discussed to death." but I assure you, that was a complaint as well. I guess that means my Zinc card should be well on it's way. So you can just keep your card Mike.I'm on a roll so save it for the next up-and-coming complainer. Thanks for reminding me about the violation of Article 107, section 3, exception 32.b.Now I have one more thing to challenge and complain about. At this rate...I'll be getting the much sought after "NOBELIUM CARD" in no time. However...after a non-public complaint to the staff, I was informed that I'm close to meeting my "Complaint Quota" for January. I'm already in the Complainers Hot 20 and I If I time it right. I think I can be "COM" (Complainer Of the Month). BTW Mike, didn't you leave for good again back in Post 19? I think your post 26 is a clear violation of Article 36, section 24, exception 36dd. (Impersonating an active member). But,Since, this has become an un-moderated thread (as you mentioned),I imagine that you will get away with it this time. Don't worry,I wont nark you out to the PTB. They wouldn't listen to me anyway. After all...I'm a contender for Complainer Of the Month. Thanks again for the abuse. Tom

  1. Did you ever think you would make it as Complainer Of the Month (COM)?

  2. How did you get into the complaining business? Was it a natural development, or did you recieve any advanced training?

  3. Who were your influences? Are there any "Complainiacs" you'd like to credit?

  4. What is your favorite complaining software? Notepad? Word? Or do you just improvise it in the reply field?

  5. Is there any type of formula you use for creating a new complaint that you could share with the newbies?

  6. Do you practice complaining much at home, or do you find it more inspiring to seek out complaint material in places such as Renderosity.com?

  7. Are you intending on becoming a Complaint Merchant here? That is, are you currently working on any new complaints for the MarketPlace? Do you have a Complainer's Resource Kit planned?

  8. Was it difficult for you to break into the world of semi-professional complaining?

9)What advice could you give to those who seek to make a career out of complaining?

I'm pulling for ya, man!

...That I did not receive an e-bot for this thread "Again" It's a conspiracy I tell ya. The PTB must not want me continuing this thread (And probably several others too...lol) Anyway...I did in fact get COM for January and I'd be delighted to answer your interview Mikej (Even though technically ,you do not exist here anymore) 1) Did you ever think you would make it as Complainer Of the Month (COM)? [Answer] Actually,It never even entered my mind. But I knew that once I set my mind to it,I'd do my very best at complaining. I knew I had A lot of competition here at Renderosity but I thought I might have a shot if I only put my heart into it (notice I didn't say "Mind") 2) How did you get into the complaining business? Was it a natural development, or did you receive any advanced training? [Answer] I started long ago when I was on staff both here and at another site, that I realized that there was a market for complaining.I seemed to find myself on the receiving end of it mostly, so I guess you could say there was some advanced training. After a while, It did seem to come naturally though. I also realized that I would have to complain about "Something" in order to be a card carrying member here at Renderosity. 3) Who were your influences? Are there any "Complainiacs" you'd like to credit? [Answer}] Oh yes, I had MANY influences, but it might be in bad form to name names here.Besides, they are now my competition so I don't want to draw any publicity to them. (You all know who you are..and I'd like to thank you all VERY much) 4) What is your favorite complaining software? Notepad? Word? Or do you just improvise it in the reply field? [Answer}] I mostly improvise on the fly, Complaining really doesn't take much thought so if I launched a program with the intent of writing a complaint,I probably wouldn't get very far as I might actually "Think" and therefore either ruin the complaint,or realize it's not worth complaining about in the first place. FIRE-AIM-READY, I always say when it comes to complaining. But since I have Outlook open all of the time anyway..I tend to use it to compile my complaints. It also has a spelling and Grammar checker. Very handy. It save me from have to edit posts after they have been posted in the reply field.(Which is another thing I intend to complain about in the near future) 5) Is there any type of formula you use for creating a new complaint that you could share with the newbies? [Answer}] Basically...I use the "Shoot From The Hip" method of complaining. That is,..I complain immediately as things come up.(Without thinking at all), but I've also used the "Bottle It Up" approach as well,in which I save all complaints until I just can not take it anymore and then release them all in one big complaint-fest.I've found this approach better for the end of the month complaint.Sort of a "Grand Finale" to push ahead of my competition. 6) Do you practice complaining much at home, or do you find it more inspiring to seek out complaint material in places such as Renderosity.com? [Answer}] Amazingly,I complain very little at home.I'm a single father of my 10 year old daughter.and I GET a lot of my material FROM her. She is an inspiration to me and I'm sure I wouldn't have won without her influence. 7) Are you intending on becoming a Complaint Merchant here? That is, are you currently working on any new complaints for the MarketPlace? Do you have a Complainer's Resource Kit planned? [Answer}] Although I've always said I would keep my complaints free,I have been kicking around the idea of becoming a "Complaint Merchant" here at Renderosity. I've talked with some beta testers willing to test my complaints in exchange for a license to use my complaints for personal or commercial use. If all goes well.and I begin to see a profit,I'll consider a Complainer's Resource Kit . But if all doesn't go well.I'll be complaining about that too.So it's a Win Win situation. I'd be a fool not to explore this idea. 8) Was it difficult for you to break into the world of semi-professional complaining? [Answer}] Well...As I said,...It's very competitive. Especially here a Renderosity. I've found it relatively easy at other sites but Renderosity has some of the best complainers on the net. I'm confident though, that if I can make it here,...I can make it anywhere. For the right money,..I'd consider going Pro,if I could get the right sponsorship.I've already been approached by "Piss-and Moan"magazine to write some complaints and do complaint reviews. 9)What advice could you give to those who seek to make a career out of complaining? [Answer}] Firstly "DON'T THINK !" The most important advice I can give is to be as mindless as you can be when writing your complaints. If you think even for a split second, you may find that your complaint is not justified, and end up not complaining at all. Secondly...NEVER DO ANY RESEARCH. By all means,do not read any recent threads that might include the subject of your complaint...just open the forum, and just fire away..if you do research, you may very well find your complaint was resolved and there was a good reason for the thing you are complaining about. This also makes it so staff members have to say over and over again, the answer to your complaint. Thirdly Under no circumstances do you apologize for your complaint. Remember that Renderosity "OWES" you something even if you do not shop at the marketplace. If you find you are getting too much flack from your complaint, back-paddle as much as you can,or request the thread to be locked to save yourself any further embarrassment. If that doesn't work, simply go back and delete all of your posts in the thread so no one will know what has been said. Well..anyway..Thanks for the interview. I'm sure I'll find something to complain about it once I've posted it. Tom <~ January 2006 COM
