Subject: How to make a little Sun?

Strelok ( ) posted Sat, 04 February 2006 at 1:10 PM · edited Tue, 24 December 2024 at 11:45 PM

Hi I am very new to vue, so perhaps it's a very simple question. How can i do a little sun, like for example in this thread shown http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1052010 My sun is just a big bright spot on the screen, and it doesn't seem to matter how far away i put it - i want to make a ocean scene, where a red sun is half in over the horizon. thx for help

You adjust the size of the sun by playing with the lens flare brightness adjustment. When you select your sun object, it's the top little button in the top right little window. Click on that and it will open the lens flare editor and then just play around with the brightness settings.

Ok, it does work, but now i still only get a very slight sun still, not a real circle on the horizon http://img463.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4c8zc.jpg I tried everything i could find in the lens flare settings and the other ones for the sun too - do i overlook something?

Try turning up the brightness of the sun itself. If it's a directionl light type sun - increase the color value to a whiter shade. If it's a spot light type sun, increase the light power.

Hi Strelok

That's a lovely image and theme - especially considering you are new to Vue - wow! >8o)

I don't know if this might be of help, but I often find it useful to open a few preset atmospheres (e.g. F5 -> Simple Sunset -> Red Sunset / Red Sunset 2 / Cliche), examine and tweak those atmospheres using the editor(F4).

For scenes with Suns in the background, I usually add a spotlight to illuminate foreground figures a bit like they do in film photography - the strength and realism is up to you, but it sometimes helps.

Here is a very basic render that came out better than expected to show what I mean - pretty much a direct Poser import + preset atmosphere + front spotlight

Keep up the great work!

Kind regards
