Subject: Realistic Skin Rendering of Poser Figures in Vue

Hi

Another Newbie Question from me ;) Before I began with Vue I always rendered my charakrters in Poser, and I can achieve a realistic looking skin there, with Realskinshaders & Co but all my imported figures in vue are being rendered like plastic again, doesn'T matter which texture they have and whether or not they were prepared with the skinshader in poser (ok, i suppose vue doesn't understand all those nodes, but i don't know). I even tried to read the realskinshader Python Script in vue, but that didn't work.

So here is the Question, is it possible? And when yes, then how is it possible to render a realistic skin in vue

Here is the pic i am working on now, and the guy just looks badly. The Pic has only preview quality but in final he glistens nevertheless and looks like a piece of rubber

I think the major issue is the weird way Poser is setting up material attributes. Different to all other programs that i know. Especially the black highlight color, combined with a huge highlight size causes most of what you describe. What most of us do is to change that manually. Import the character and then go to the material editor to change this. Use white or a light rose tone for the hightlight color and reduce the highlight size to something around 20%. Maybe you test that. What gives excellent results too is the use of a Python script called SkinVue from dburdick. Maybe you have a look at his images in the gallery here to get an impression. alas, i can'T afford that thingy at the moment ;) I'll go try that highlight stuff first, did you mean the poser material editor or the vue one?

Sorry to be unclear - the Vue material editor i meant. Sometimes it is a help to select the "collapse identical materials" in the import options. Saves you a lot of time.

There used to be a free version of SkinVue, from dburdick in the freestuff section, but it's not there anymore. I'm considering buying it soon anyway.

If you wait a little while there is a new version of SkinVue coming out. I'm testing it at the moment and it's ten time better than the original if you can believe that!!!!

creed2003 - is that the one he says on his site will be available in march that uses python to automate application of material functions etc? Is there a chance it will be available before march? Love esther

Yup, thats the one. As for when it will be available that I'm not sure of. I'm still in the process of learning how to use it which is why I haven't posted any images yet. So far I'm impressed and I like it a lot!!!

Strelok, Lovely image you created. A product like SkinVue would certainly help although for the image you just created you could fix this quite easily manually. First of all, you have too much specular highlighting on the man's face. I would turn the intensity down by at least half. Secondly, you should soften the edges of the shadows by adding 5% softness to the lights which are casting shows on the people. Finally, I would draw some stray head hairs on the man and the woman (in Photoshop of PSP) to add a touch more realism. But overall, I think it's an excellent picture. In general, there are three things that make more realistic human skin renders: 1. Great lighting 2. High quality texture maps 3. Realistic specular highlighting and shadows

Hi, thanks for kind remarks and suggestions How do i turn the intensity of specular highlighting down? In Poser I actually able to do highly realistic human skin renders, all my problem is transferring it into vue, it's my second vue pic at all - ok, I always work quite a while on every pic, to make it as perfekt as it goes with my skills, but still, I don't know a 20th part of what can be done in this marvellous programm.

The way to adjust specular highlights in Vue is to go to the "Materials browser" window and select your "Head" material (double click). This will bring up the materials window. Go the "Highlights" tab and then adjust the "Highlight Intensity" slider. I would move it down by half. Also, in general the "Highlight Size" should be between 10% to 20% for low-lit scenes like you have. Vue takes a bit of getting used to, but it is far superior to Poser in rendering, lighting and shadows. Once you get the hang of it, you'll never go back to Poser again except for creating characters.

I do it already so, but it is far more easy to create realistic charakter skin in poser. My problem just now is, that i tried to do this thing before, but i just can't find the head - i've got 79 materials on my poser import, there is head neck, lips, inner mouth, lacrima and stuff, but no just head ;) i lowered the highlight overall where i found the head texture, but it wouldn'T help at the problem site, alas

If you're using a DAZ character, the head material is named "SkinHead". Press the "F6" key to bring up the material preview browser and look for "SkinHead". If you want a preview of some realistic skin done in Vue, look at my site here: http://www.SkinVue.net

I found it, thx, but it didn't do much good, I played with all the highlight stuff and all, but it won't do much good alas. This is one Render I did in Poser, I wished i could render such skin in vue, cause besides of that and some strange problem i have with eyes, it's great. About the eyes: I imported a poser figure whose eyes look to the far right, at the vue preview, he looks at the opposite side, and in the final render in the middle with red eyes, although the texture is brown ;) kinda strange - am going to postwork that

Hi Strelok - what a great image! I'm interested to learn a little more about the models used etc (feel free to PM me). Regarding problems with eyes when imported to Vue, i've usually found that one or more of the following works (for me):- - In the Eye Material Colour Tab - disable "Color Blend" - In the Reflectivity Tab - turn Global Reflectivity to 0% Hope one of those works for you - Look forward to hearing more about your image! here's another crack at procedural skin based very very largely on dburdick's posted jpg of his material function setup - i know it's not that great so if any one could give me some tips and advice on this i'd be very happy
