I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the standards are for making an animation for broadcast. I'm wondering what the proper render size and video format are. Anyone have any suggestions?

720x480 30fps NTSC colors, usually uncompressed avi, pending where its going to be displayed at(tv, vhs,cdrom,etc)

720x480 is the DV size for video, otherwise some broadcasters are still on 640 x 480 at 30 fps ( all american formats, PAL is a bit different). But yeah Quick time movie format or AVI is usually standard, uncompressed.

How does interlacing enter into the equation? Waht effect does it have on actual rendered resolution and frame rate. Also, what about the actual rate, which is 29.7, not 30?

The slower the rate, the more 'dropped frames' will appear. Even at 30 fpm, if your hard drive is too slow, you will have notchy films. Go ahead and render, then run it and watch. Programs like VideoWave, or Adobe Director are good for home use on avi's. I recommend a scsi drive, 256m ram minimum, and something above an Athelon 750 if you want broadcast quality. The ram is a real issue.

Oh, Bryce renders to disk if you need, however, VideoWave by Micrographix (I think) uses ram and tons of it.

Er, sorry for the multiple posts, but even though Bryce is not dependent on a video card, VideoWave is. AGP with lots of megs on that will be needed for that program. I have an ATI All in Wonder Pro ISA with 8 megs and its better than the 4 meg one, but the AGP all in wonder with 32 megs is just fine from what my friends say. www.atitech.com has some new cards with better chipsets. I like the Rage Pro cuz it has the TV tuner with it. Go check out their products if you need.
