Subject: Poser 6 parenting problem

Hi, I have cygnus X's outfit for stephanie 3 petite and I have the stephanie 3 petite model. First of all when you load up stephanie 3 petite into poser 6, her feet are jagged, like a kink in her body. I corrected this by posing her using one of the stephanie 3 poses and set about parenting clothes to her. This is proving to be really tricky. the clothes load up clothing her - ok. They are not automatically parented. In DAZ studio you just parented the clothing to a general area and the child nodes just clicked into place. When I go to set parent tab in the menu, I select the item I want to parent and then the hierarchy menu comes up. For boots, I clicked boots, then clicked in the hierarchy menu - foot. But the boot does not snap into place. Is there something incredibly noobish I'm doing?

The term you're looking for in Poser is 'conforming' - and it doesn't happen automatically. After you load a piece of clothing, go to Figure > Conform to... and select the figure from the list. The jagged feet may be due to IK (Inverse Kinematics) being on by default for the legs. That can be switched off from the Figure menu also.

Ok, but there is a "set parent" tab - I'm guessing that I'm completely off track then if the term is called conforming. will check it out. Will this enable me to pose the model and have the clothes follow?

In Poser you don't parent clothes, you conform it. There is a Parent button on the tab because technically you CAN parent it (dynamic clothes are usually parented before thesimulation is run, for instance) but in Poser, simply select the dress and click Conform To... Then select the SP3 character (probably called Figure 1 if you loaded her first) And then the clothes WILL snap into place and follow when you pose her. And as EnglishBob said: The jagged feet is probably due to IK. Turn iit off and see if it helps. (Figure -> Use Inverse Kinematics then remove the two checkmarks at Right and left leg)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Lol, noob alert! noob alert! I'm sooooo confused!!! What is the difference between parenting and conforming?

EnglishBob ( ) posted Wed, 08 February 2006 at 3:49 AM

Parenting is usually reserved for props: hats, shoes, and of course swords. That's for when a single solid object needs to follow the movement of a single body part, and it's easier to set up. Conforming is when a posable figure (that's what clothes are, really) follows the posing of another figure.
