Well, why not put it up for sale? If it's so "valuable," then IT WILL SELL! And if it works, I'll most likely be one of your customers. Good luck if you DO decide to market it. I know creating something worthwhile doesn't always mean you can show a profit selling it. It's a shark world out there. Anyway, my best wishes for your sucess!
Gear, Just a thought: You could market the program through Renderosity's online store. They have a few other "programs" for sale there. It would be a low overhead startup. Is there a problem with your licensing of the core "midi" code? With Bryce 5 and Poser 5 on their way, this might be a good time to get your program out, before someone else or the new Poser/Bryces beat you to the punch. If it is truly possible to do, as you assert, then someone else will do it, especially if you don't. You have, afterall, revealed here a unique and basic approach to solve the problem. We don't need "no" fancy interface--just something that works. Put my vote in for a PC version. Any feedback here would be appreciated. Again, good luck.
By the way, to any other programmers out there: The MOTU (Mark Of The Unicorn) MIDI sequence software SDK, MAS 2.1, is available for free from http://www1.motu.com/english/other/developer/index.html. It is MAC only. It is FREE to developers, but I'm not sure what the details of their license is. I don't know of a free PC midi SDK. Anyone else got a suggestion? If GEAR doesn't want to sell/share his, then let's get another programmer out there to try doing this!
The only reason I come back to this page is that, as you know, I get an e-mail each time someone responds. Last year when I started this I got NO support from the PC world. Only Mac-heads chimed in. I dislike the WinTel world so much that if you want my cooperation, you'd better stay in the closet. I am extremely busy creating a 3D animation for IMAX. The frames are huge and time intensive. Nothing you've seen on TV or in the movies could prepare you for the quality of these Poser animations within Bryce. Magic beyond reason. You will not inspire me to pre-publish any of it by dare or doubt. I will admit to being somewhat cash strapped, but BELIEVE ME, that won't last very long. Yes, I've revealed the method of approach, but I'm not your average hack, and if you think you can here from zero, be my guest. The PC MIDI sequencers, the best of which are German, are probably not up to the task for reasons that are somewhat esoteric. More when I get a chance. -Gear
Well, for any PC programmers out there, it's time to come out of your "closet," quit "ignoring" GEAR, and take up the gauntlet that he has thrown down. Should you decide to accept his challehge, then here's a few links to PC Midi SDKs--as if you needed them! http://developer.creative.com/MUSIC/DC_D&H_Music-sfmix.html http://www.steinberg.net/developers/VST2SDKAbout.phtml http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Download/Step2.asp?DID=77 THIS LAST ONE (http://3dmidi.demonews.com/download.asp) IS REALLY NEAT! He has a Midi SDK and also a program, called 3D MiDi, that creates 3D animations from midi files. It also can create scripts to control POV animations. Maybe someone can get it to control Poser ProPak via Python scripting. As to replicating GEAR's Poser to Bryce porting, my experience has taught me that most "clever" people are not nearly as clever or original as they have fooled themselves into believing that they are. His project does sound feasible to me. How about some other PC programmer out there? I can smell a big financial opportunity here! Did I read somewhere that there are 60,000 Poser users out there? Or am I way out of synch on that? Gear: If you don't want to sell or otherwise share your "program", nor post the results of your renders, then why bother posting anything about it in the first place? I hope this isn't some knd of prank. And the PC bashing is so-o sophmorhic and tiresome. PLEEEASE!!

'Best results so far involve using MOTU (Mark Of The Unicorn) MIDI sequence software to convert Poser control information in almost real-time to Bryce reposition command information. Having to pass through the MIDI domain limits resolution to 7-bit, but that's pretty good in motion. An arm swinging around in a circular motion, for instance, could have no finer a degree of change than 2.8125 (360/128) That's pretty smooth, even at 15fps. The MOTU editing tools do unexpected and amazing things. Certainly not what they were intended to do. So far it's only working on my Mac G3/400. I'll have to get a different sequencer to start a PC version. The Poser characters within Bryce move by remote control from Poser thru MOTU. I must sleep now. -Gear loves you.
