Subject: Morphing Fantasy Dress

I know this is another one of my 'rank newb' questions' but after fiddling with it for several hours I am ready to yell for help. I chose the strapless version of the dress and for the life of me I can't get the parts of the original dress that are not supposed to show to, well, not show. I tried unchecking 'visible' button on each part but what I get is a transparent but still there portion of the dress. If anyone could point me to some clear instructions.. or tell me what I am doing wrong, please?

Thanks
myst

Which version of Poser are you using? If you uncheck the items under the hierarchy then they shouldn't show up at all. If you unchecking the visible button on the parameter dials, P6 also has boxes for the item to cast shadows and show up in raytracing. If either box is still checked and you are rendering using shadows or raytracing then the item might still ghost. Another option is to go under the materials for that section and change the texture and specularity to pure black (RGB 0,0,0) and set all three transparency settings to 1.0.

You need to go into the material room and look for a node called "transparency falloff" I think it's called. Poser sets it to 0.6 as default which means you get a line showing. Knock this setting to zero and the line will be gone!

There is an excellent tutorial at Daz on how to work with the MFD. It helped me a great deal in understanding the dials and what they did and which ones to use.

EDIT: Something I learned along the way was to pose the dress BEFORE you apply a texture. After you have posed it and applied the texture, do a draft render to see what it looks like. Most times the texture you apply doesn't affect anything, but occasionally you might have to tweak the dress a bit. In that case you can turn off the transparency for that part of the dress in the material room. 0 = not transparent 1 = 100% transparent

Success! She's dressed, no bits of her sticking out and no bits of dress that aren't supposed to be there! Thanks much! Myst
