Subject: Multiple characters? And Alien trouble

LadySythe ( ) posted Fri, 24 February 2006 at 5:00 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 10:14 AM

Yeah, me again... Im trying to work on a duo pic...but I cant seem to figure out how to get two characters in the same window without them sharing the same space. Do I have to change some settings??? I found a tut about it somewhere...but I cant remember where I had seen it. Anyone help? I also downloaded the free Alien Queen...but when I tried to get open it...it wouldnt show up. Do I need to reinstall it again? Or do I need to chase down all the files and put them somewhere else? Thanks! LS

You need some basic training in using Poser. The link here is for another person who had the same problem. 1. Learn what files go where ...by checking the extension in the existing libraries, the geometry directory and the textures directory. Normally any downloaded product is designed to be downloaded into the proper subdirectories. I usually download new stuff into a separate directory to check out what is there. 2. Props and characters are added from the library by the double check at the lower right corner of the screen. Props and charactters are poseable from the poses library which also includes materials to some products. 3. While it is possible to move stuff around with the cursor, it is best to do that with the parameters dials

Re the Alien queen (I may be wrong but)..it's a little on the large size, if I remember. Pull back, and it may show up. As for 2 characters
what I do (and I'm pretty close to a novice..;) is insert one character, pick the body, then move it x or z direction a ways from the normal area. Pull in clothing, hair, etc., get all that set. Then insert the 2nd figure, and set it up as you want. I think you can get what's called 'crosstalk', where things you do on Figure 1 happend to Figure 2, etc.
hope this helps some..;)

Make sure your folders for the queen are in your runtime in the right places too.

If you are talking about the Alien Queen from Sixus1; The figure was HUGE, so I broke it up into three downloads...make sure that you have the OBJ and the Textures zips also. Then be sure that you have extracted them to a Poser Directory to maintain file structure. --Rebekah-- Or it could be a case of it just being too much for your machine also. That particular figure wasn't originally modeled for Poser, so the polycount is quite high....looks nice though if you can get a render.

Ive messed with the properties of both characters and...well, the Pred character doesnt seem to have the right eh...wheel, for lack of better words. Im using the free Pred character and V3. And the Alien Queen... I zoomed way out to where the "floor" guidlines are seen in the entire window. No Queen, but Poser says its there shrugs The pc works just fine, and I installed all three Queen zips...so... sighs Ill figure it out eventually, cause I'm not exactly getting the answers Im looking for. Thanks. LS

hmm..you may have to go the manual route. No 'fense, and it may not be the case here, but sometimes files don't go where they're supposed to (I use a lot of Sixus' stuff, and sometimes' I've messed up a character, because a geometry, or a texture, or something I put goes in the wrong place. Probably something I'm doing).
In the title of the Poser forum is a backroom, and in there is a chart Doc Geep made to show what files go where. At a minimum, the geometry file might not be in the location it's supposed to be. What I do sometimes is open the zip file, then look on the right of the listings, to see what directory they're supposed to go in. Then I may even create the directories..(being a IT guy is like being a cop..since you only see the bad side of your subjects, it tends to make you a bit cynical..;) and physically move them into them.

OK, this is what I get when I just put in the M-G Alien queen, Poser 4, no change on view, or texturing done. I wonder if there's more than one version?

Nope, just the one version, in three download zips. All I can say is this, every...and I mean every time I have had this question come to me it was because the OBJ zip wasn't downloaded or it was in the wrong folder. I don't know if you have a copy of the ReadMe still handy, but I've attached a copy. If you have installed or moved the Geometry to a different folder, you will have to either move it back or open up the cr2 in a text editor and re-reference it. Best of luck, --Rebekah--

Phew! Getting into Poser is a bigger challenge than Photoshop and Terragen - and maybe even Vue, combined! Or maybe its just that I dont have the complete patience to move every...single...file around to their proper places. But I guess thats what Ill have to do. Again, I say PHEW! I thank you all for your replies. Ill see if moving the files around helps. LS

most of the time, it's not a problem. Specific things go in specific folders. It's just (pick pick pick), those people who make zip files with everything in 1 directory, that make it hard on people. No 'fense, but it's only hurting the person offering the item. (Like I should talk; I think I have maybe a dozen offerings all together, and the puir hosters have had to come in and 'poserize' them..;)

You don't have to move the files one by one, unzip it to your Poser directory and it puts them all where they need to go in order to work. Best of luck, if you need any more help beyond all of the advice that you have already recieved, my email is in the ReadMe file. --Rebekah--
