Subject: Morphs for a skirt

Hi there! At the moment I'm experimenting with a dress I've created some time ago. It works well as dynamic dress, and now I've done the setup to make it conforming. With the conforming dress I want to include also some morphs so that the figure can sit/lie down. My question: I could make the morph targets in the cloth room or by using magnets - which is better? I noticed that for sitting poses the cloth room has some problems with voluminous skirts, I get all the folds underneath the figure and the legs are tightly wrapped - looks stupid. But I find it difficult to make it look right with the magnets. Is there anybody with experience in this field who could give me some advice? Thanks a lot, esha

Well, for morphs I always use the software in which I modeled my cloth. (in my case, Cinema4D) Simply because a 3D modeling program has more tools to make every morph look realistic. If you're not using another 3D tool, I think it's difficult to get the morphs right within Poser. So basically, I would advise you to model the morphs in a modeling program, then export as obj. and import the morph in Poser. Please be aware that I'm no expert on this area, I'm just letting you know what I think was the easiest way for me! :) Take care, Sabra

When using the cloth room for such clothes it is often useful to use a wind force during the early part of the simulation to blow the dress in the right direction with the force reduced to zero later to allow the cloth to settle down.

I use the cloth room myself, but as you've seen, skirts tend to lose modelled-in details (and their shape) once they've been clothified. To be completely accurate you'd have to model the morph from scratch as Sabra suggests. It may be possible to experiment with cloth room settings, and maybe pick the best frame from the simulation and refine it further with magnets and/or modeller.
