Subject: Get Together

Has anyone ever thought of possibly organizing a get-together for Renderosity members...I mean wouldnt that be neat...to have it at a hotel somewhere or something...I just think it would be neat for us to all gather and be able to meet and chat with our favorite artists and friends...it is a far fetched idea...but it would be nice I think.

Thats a neat idea! Though where would you hold it ? Some of the people I work with come from Ireland the US and I'm from the UK. Though I won't complain if Roisty buys mes a 1st class ticket to come to Tennesse :)

Some have done it already (in small groups). Mostly, users of specific getting together and hanging out for the day. AgentSmith

Yeah...that would be the problem...where to have it..I do live close to Tenn...but members are from all over the world!! It is a far fetched idea I know..but a nice fantasy heh?? :)

Not a bad idea at all, really, and I bet it could be profitable as well. I'm sure that Nashville has at least a few hotels which do conventions. Annually, there is SIGGRAPH and DragonCon, so why not an 'Osity Oddity? or, RenderCon? Long as the booze didn't run out, it'd prob'ly be alot of fun. :)

It's been spoken about many times in the past, one idea was to have various venues all over the World and have them connected by those big TV screens. The complexities and expense of such a thing would be restrictive though! You could always plan one say 2years in advance to give people the chance to save some cash to go wherever it would be held but you might need a big htel if all 200,000 members turned up [rofl]. It's a terrific idea but it will sadly never happen IMHO! Local meets are the only way!

Siggraph 2006 will be in Boston, and in 2007 it will be in San Diego. Those are also good times/places to hook up. AS

I'd love to meet a lot of people here. But, I'm in texas with dreams of moving home to calif in about a year, have no vehicle and no buckeroos. A couple of other places I belong to have had gatherings in Las Vegas. I wasn't able to go, but quite a few people did. The gatherings were planned like a year ahead so the people who wanted to go could save money, get the time off work, make hotel reservations, etc.

Yes...it would have to be planned long ahead of time...something that would need to be planned far in advance...it would be costly but it would be grand!! :)

You guys surprise me! You're able to create worlds, terrific landscapes and mind boggling imagery and yet we consider limitations when it comes to seeing each other. I should be the one complaining here...Why? well for one thing, I live in Nigeria,Africa. I think it's just one of those situations that calls for faith and belief in what we do and how much we all want to be with each other. I love you guys and I know I'll meet y'all one day. Hi everybody, I'm really excited to see there is still interest in a gathering of the community. It is something that has been discussed many times over the years. As already stated, there have been a number of gatherings in different parts of the world and with different user groups. I think that it is something we can do if there is enough interest. We would, of course, like for as many people to come as possible. So, advance community planning would be a must. Thanks for bringing it up again as something fun and exciting that we can look forward to. Best wishes, Lillian Marketing Manager

Hey Lillian, encouraging words, but are the PTB going to make it happen? I don't see any "individual" putting their head above the parapet on this one to try and set it up so is Rendo as a business thinking of taking on this challenge?

Hi thefixer, We've been thinking about a large Renderosity gathering for quite some time. As we all know, there are some key challenges to such an event. Basic logistics like location and date have been an issue in past discussions, with members becoming rather divisive over where and when to meet. Unfortunately, there is simply no possible way to make a single gathering that is centrally located for all our members and having mutliple events is not an option at this time. If we are to have a get-together, there needs to be the understanding that it may not be a perfect fit for each member's individual schedule and location. With or without a Renderosity gathering, we still have the option of meeting at Siggraph in Boston this year, as well as having members continue to set up local area face-to-face gatherings. We love to reading news of any local area gatherings. Please feel free to post the details and afterwards the pictures of these events with the rest of the community of . I look forward to meeting more artists at Siggraph in Boston! Best regards, Lillian

HI, I was wondering if there is a list of members who for sure know that they will be attending the Siggraph in Boston gathering? Also..does anyone know if there is a fee other than the hotel reservation to attend this....I looked on the web site and couldnt find any info on this..maybe I am looking in the wrong area? Thanks!:)

Hi digitell, We haven't started a "Siggraph in Boston gathering" thread yet. It's still a bit early. But, that is something we'll do. Yes, there are different levels of registration fees depending on what you want to do while you're at Siggraph. Here's the link to their registration page: http://www.siggraph.org/s2006/main.php?f=registration We will also have a "Siggraph Free Exhibition Pass" giveaway coming in the next few months. So, if you are interested, keep checking the Front Page for the latest details on that giveaway. Best regards, Lillian
