Subject: Clothing rant...

Nosiferret ( ) posted Wed, 01 March 2006 at 8:36 PM ยท edited Thu, 07 November 2024 at 11:43 AM

Ok, I bought Umutov's package for the schoolbabe katie outfit about a month ago and today, I'm trying to use it for the first time. Can someone please tell me how exactly I'm suppose to use it? the Readme file has nothing in it other than this 1) Add V3 to your scene 2) In your Posers Figures Library you will see Umutov_P3D_FC_PP (For P4 use Umutov_P3D_FC_P4). Load the Clothing in to your scene and conform it to V3 3) In the clothings BODY DIALS you will see the Morphs in OTHER Section. Simply apply the morph dials which suits your character. In step 2 when I find the "top" in the folder he states, Poser is asking me to find schooltop.OBJ which is not in the file he gave me [not suppose to be I know], and it doesn't match the file name of the shirt it's suppose to "assist" I tried picking out the schoolbabe katie shirt when it asked me to find the schooltop.obj and it made the top a gold color but none of the morphs are working. I'm thinking I've wasted my money on this and I can't find the merchant anywhere on Rosity so I can try and ask him directly...I've never used a package that is nothing but morphs before. while I'm on the clothing soap box...not pointing fingers at anyone but you'll know who you are if you read this... It would be very nice for makers of Poser clothing if they would update their older items with body morphs, especially if they're going to continue to sell them at TOP dollar. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm starting to get tired of paying a high price [up to 20 bucks for some outfits!] for an item that doesn't have any body morphs in it. When BatLab charges something like 7 bucks for a great outfit that has SOME morphs in it. So if you're gonna ask a premium price for your product, follow through with a premium product that can be used on various body types. After all, I dare you go walk out into the world today and see how many people all have the same body shape...Items made to fit just the basic body frame without morphs is cheating in my book. Granted, I haven't tried making clothing or know how difficult it can be to add morphs to it. What do I know? I'm just the consumer that allows you to make more items if I buy your stuff. I only have a few hours of rec time to sit and do something in Poser I don't want to spend hours fiddling with the xyz dials that do nothing but totally distort the outfit, making it look hideous. If I want to move the breast area I get the whole shoulder and arm area go totally haywire. Which makes me really hate the clothing item and makes me frustrated that I spent so much time trying to make the clothing appear right which is an attempt at trying to save me a lot of postwork in the end when in the end I've come to the conclusion that I've just wasted the time and effort, and then I can't remember the idea I had for the image. Which then leads me to the message boards so I can spend more time ranting...No wonder there are so many Poser renders of naked females in the gallery.

It sounds like you may need the original Schoolbabe Kate to use the package.

I do have it :) I Bought it and then the next day bought the Morph package made by another merchant. I can't figure out how it works, knowing my luck it's probably easy as long as I read between the lines in the readme file.

The person in question no longer has a store here. If you want your money back, write to the store admins and explain the situation. They may give you a refund.

Or you could PM Pretty3D who might know how that package works, as it's for one of his outfits I believe. Message edited on: 03/01/2006 21:12

Is the package RTEncoded, maybe? Morphs are sometimes distributed that way.

The ReadMe should have a list of the files included in the package. If it does, post it.

Can't find the Obj? Locate the original Zip the use Xp's zip function to open it an use the explore command to look at the file folder names. Then look in Poser and make sure the folders are there. Then open up the cr2's and pose and props (if any) in your favorite text editor and look at the figResource line, very close to the top. It will tell you where it expects the obj file to be. If there is a difference with the installation make the needed corrections, two places. While you looking the files over, check the textureMap lines for path errors, should be ":Runtime:XXX:XXX.jpg"

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

People will sell whatever other people will buy. I don't know the package or seller in question but my advise is read, read and read. Most top notch sellers will say what morphs are included in a package. Most packages have a pretty good description of what is contained in a package. Then if you have more questions ask them here or contact the seller directly. There's so many helpful folks here at Renderosity you're sure to get an answer. As nickedshield says, there's ways to confirm if you have the object file and there are probably ways to make your new figure work. I do feel your pain. One shouldn't have to hack a purchase to make it work. On the other hand you will quickly learn how things work in Poser if you do. Final: if folks stop buying than other folks will stop selling. Best Wishes, Rance

Thanks to all for posting, got lots of great advice! I redownloaded the file to see maybe it didn't completely transfer for some reason, but when I open the file there isn't a OBJ file in it. Which I know really shouldn't be as the OBJ is the original "shirt" item from the Katie line [that I also have]. But it's asking for a different file name than what the Katie shirt is titled. I've done it several ways, adding the real shirt then the "morphed" one and comformed it to the body, that didn't work, I tried conforming it to the real shirt, that didn't work. I tried directing the file when it asked me to find the OBJ to the real shirt, and it changed the shirt color to a gold brown and changed the bust line on the model and then the morphs were showing up as they were suppose to but nothing moved, you could have breast 6 cranked all the way to 10 and nothing changed. So I must be doing something wrong with it. I did notice that when I selected the "morphed" top and added it to the scene when the window pops open to have me find the OBJ and I selected cancel there is something listed as "Top" but there is not an untextured item showing. I'm going to contact the maker of the orginial outfit to see if they know anything about the other merchants product. --- Here is the list of files in the zip as Randym asked. RuntimelibrariescharacterUmutov_P3D_FC_P4 School Shoes.cr2 School Shoes.rsr School Skirt.cr2 School Skirt.rsr School Stockings.cr2 School Stockings.rsr School Straps.cr2 School Straps.rsr School Top.cr2 School Top.rsr RuntimelibrariescharacterUmutov_P3D_FC_PP School Shoes.cr2 School Shoes.png School Shoes.rsr School Skirt.cr2 School Skirt.png School Skirt.rsr School Stockings.cr2 School Stockings.png School Stockings.rsr School Straps.cr2 School Straps.png School Straps.rsr School Top.cr2 School Top.png School Top.rsr I am thinking this is worded wrong, shouldn't it reflect exactly the same names being used in the originial folder? P3D has it School_Shirt.OBJ and Poser is asking for me to locate the Top.OBJ there is no underscore in the file listing above and shouldn't the file say School_Shirt instead of top? I haven't had a chance yet to open it in a text editor to see what things are pointed to, my guess is since it's asking for top.obj that is what the "morphed" top has been told to look for. --- Which kind of brings me to another question, how can I add morphs to a product that is morph free? Thanks again to all for your help :)

You might try PhilC and Kamilche's Wardwrobe Wizard. You can use that plugin to make clothes made for one character to fit another and also to add fits to any clothes set. - Rance

"I did notice that when I selected the "morphed" top and added it to the scene when the window pops open to have me find the OBJ and I selected cancel there is something listed as "Top" but there is not an untextured item showing. " That happens when an obj isn't found. Before you get more frustrated I would strongly suggest checking the cr2 for where the obj should be.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

There's another morph pack for SchoolBabe Katie in the store. It's by megaionstorm, and it uses CR2s only as morph containers. You're supposed to transfer the morphs from the CR2s to the original SchoolBabe Katie outfit using Morph Manager. Perhaps this works the same way?

The best free way to add morphs to clothing is with magnets. Takes a bit of practice, but the results usually pretty good.

If you're willing to shell out money, there's Wardrobe Wizard (PhilC.net) and The Tailor (DAZ). They each have their advantages. WW can actually fit clothing to different figures, not just different morphs.
