Subject: Silly question about a work by Gwendolyn

Talos ( ) posted Sat, 04 March 2006 at 11:38 AM · edited Wed, 12 February 2025 at 3:24 PM

I don't even know if it's cool to ask this, but does anyone know who her "Livia" character is supposed to be? She's a 3D Celebrity, I think. Curiosity torments me. Looks vaguely like a cross between Jane Seymor and Mia Sara. I have no idea. Extremely beautiful and classy, whoever it is. Most of Gwendolyn's characters have returned, except the one who resembles Lucy Liu.

There was a thread last year about this and had a near complete list of her characters and the actresses. Maybe someone has the link to it.

That's an interesting and useful list, but it's pre-Livia. Oh well.

As a side note, no one agrees on who Charlotte is. (not sure anyone got it) Most of them are obvious, but the ones who aren't obvious are maddening. I never have to guess with Orion. Cat Knights is easy. Someone I saw at the grocery store (northern California) a year ago. It's not a matter of one being better than the other, they're both essential.

Skylar = Romala Garai from Daniel Deronda, Vanity Fair & Dirty Dancing Havana Nights...

No idea who Livia is though... nice looking character though.

I guess that's part of my problem. I had never heard of Romala Garai, and I try hard to keep up to date on things. Livia is so gosh-darned nice, I may by her not on sale, not knowing who she is. She's too pretty to even be Monica Belucci, and it makes me flinch to say that. (wouldn't that be funny if I was right?)

Actress Adrienne Wilkinson. She played Livia/Eve in Xena Warrior Princess. http://www.mikes-images.com/mirror/pages/livia_mqmd_2005.htm link shows the face and you can kinda see the resemblence.

Talos ( ) posted Sat, 04 March 2006 at 11:42 PM

A bit more obscure than I would have guessed - and I used to watch Xena all the time, too. How did I miss this one? Awesome picture! She has blue eyes too, and the Gwendolyn Livia is most ostentatiously brown eyed. Hmm. Thanks! :-)

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sat, 04 March 2006 at 11:55 PM

has to be obscure, if it's too much like a celebrity Daz will not sell it. they had the tom cruse and some other products pulled and posted a thread at the Daz forums about it and celebrity likneses. can be a touchy subject, especially to the celebraties.

Talos ( ) posted Sun, 05 March 2006 at 12:04 AM

I am accursed, for celebrity likenesses are one of my favorite things to do in Poser, to cast those strange movies that play in my mind. I like obscure characters and actors as well, but have limited talent if I have to create them myself.

Quote - if it's too much like a celebrity Daz will not sell it.

That's probably what happened with Morris and face_off's "Heiress" for SP3. It was a clone of Paris Hilton. I don't think Paris Hilton is all that pretty, but there isn't many addons for SP3 so I picked it up when it was released. I was wondering where it disappeared to.

dunno, to me Livia resembles Jane Seymor & someone I can't put my finger on. I don't see any likeness to the Eve/Livia character from Xena. Pretty face tho.. not sure about the combination with the body, something looks really off about the two together.

well I see the resembelance. also the name livia is not really common.

but it's poser. I know when the tom cruise product was around people didn't see it was tom cruise. Here is a better close face shot of Adrienne Wilkinson closer face resembelance to the poser product.

"Livia" doesn't look like any Celebrity that I know of.

I'm afraid I agree with Acadia. I've been thinking hard, looking at the second photo of Adrienne Wilkinson (and many others), and I have to say that if it's supposed to be a celebrity likeness of Adrienne, it's pretty weak in that regard. I can spot the most obscure celebrity a mile away behind lead shielding a foot thick. The mouth (smaller), eyes (blue), and nose (wider) don't really match, and the only real similarity is attractiveness and character name. I also find the self-imposed jihad against celebrity look-alikes by nervous venders very disheartening. Try to imagine an army of Tome Cruise lawyers descending on - DAZ3D? I have to laugh at the idea of A-list, or even B list actors even having heard of Poser, much less being angry about it, and wonder if there has ever been an actual case of this happening.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sun, 05 March 2006 at 1:39 PM

Gwendolyn is the only one that can say what the product really is supposed to be or not, ask her. As to celebrity likenesses and everything, recently the actors guild almost went on strike because of demands for more rights in computer games, voice overs etc. Recent cases where celebrity's faces have been plastered onto x rated or even nude shots the celebrity has won the case. up until recently the poser 3d celebrity looklikes have not been an issue. In poser 5 and poser 6 you can take a 2d photo and use the face room to have your favorite star nude and pose then how you want to. A court case my not have happened yet, but brokerages are very careful about what they sell, they also look at what is going on in the legal dept's. Renderosty has a no nudity on 1st promo shot of a product and that is from an outside influence. As far as I know there are only 2 poser products that have been okayed by the celebrity them selves. DinaV and the Anna-Marie Goddard Digital Clone. When Anna-Marie 1st came out there was a hellova backlash on the EULA until Daz and Anna-Marie changed it. There are a lot of stars and celebrities that do know about Poser and 3d, more than you would think. Last year at Siggraph there were a lot of star sightings, and Poser was in a booth as well as Daz. Anyway, way off topic. I agree that the Livia body shape doesn't look like Adrienne. to me it looks like a face morph and a default V3 body. The sign of a good product is it's flexibility. I think it looks like 1 thing, other think it's another. That's a good thing. Now where is the Elmo digital clone, I have some uses for that Muppet wahahahaa.
