Subject: Which Vue version is closest to Bryce?

vulcanccit ( ) posted Fri, 10 March 2006 at 7:48 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 8:51 AM

I have read the threads on which is better, Bryce or Vue, and it seems Vue is the clear winner. However I have seen the different versions and there are a lot to choose from. Where I would love the Infinate version, I do not think I can justify the cost. Which would be the closest to Bryce? I have had Bryce and have liked it but I want to try Vue :)

actually vue 5... they have vue eisle, vue espirit, and vue infinite.

Bryce was left behind. It doesn't come anywhere near Vue 5.

but my question is...which version of VUE would be the most similar to bryce?

Vulcanccit... i can not see the point of your question. Are you speaking of user interface? It is quite consistent over the time. It has bryce-like controls since version 4 and you can choose to operate it in a Bryce-like, 1-window fashion (although I would not understand why to give up the extreme convenience of the 4-window approach). Are you speaking of built-in features? Then Vue d'Esprit 4 is the most comparable to Bryce 5.5 (although it preceeded Bryce 5 of almost two years). Everything that came after Vue d'Esprit 4 (which means Vue 4 Pro and all versions 5) is much superior in features compared to Bryce.

I would have to say none really. The 2 programs accomplish simular tasks, but the interface and workflow is much different. Like comparing apples and oranges really. If you're worried about ease of use, Vue was fairly easy to learn out of the box for me. Grab the demo and see for yourself.

I guess what im worried about is, I love Bryce, and enjoy it..but Vue seems SOOO much better...now..there is Vue infinate, which seems that if I simply want to replace Bryce with Vue, Vue Infinate would be overkill. Vue Easle would be maybe less featured from Bryce? and Vue Esprit would be equal? I guess im comparing features and capability. perhaps what you all are saying is, no matter what version of Vue...they all kick ass over Bryce?

I think it's a fair question. Vue Esprit or Vue Pro would offer most of what Bryce has plus much, much more. Easel is a toy and not for anyone who was a Bryce user. Try one of the demos to check it out.

One more question if I may...I am seeing Vue for sale on E-Frontier and also Eon did E Frontier buy out Eon?

dburdick ( ) posted Sat, 11 March 2006 at 1:56 AM

No - E-Frontier did not buy E-on - nor is that ever likely to happen. More likely the other way around.

Why don't you try the Vue demos and see which YOU think is closest to Bryce?

One thing you alwaqys can do is? To download the demo(s) and look yourself. Gives you a good impression i think. I would start with Vue 5 Esprit in your case. Gives you the chance to expand the software when you feel the need by buying additional modules (plant editor, advanced light, Mover for animations).

Difficult question really. Depends on what you do with Bryce and how you use it. I'd say Easel is the closest to Bryce, but if you're very proficient with Bryce, then maybe Esprit would be a better choice? In any case, whichever solution you choose, e-on offers smooth upgrade paths so you can always upgrade later if you find your version too limited.

Bryce includes the tree editing feature found only in Vue 5 Infinite. Other than that, the vue version that Bryce comes closest to is Vue 4. (or 5 Esprit).

the reason e-frontier is also selling Vue is because of a partnership deal they have with e-on as an authorized reseller. They didn't buy out e-on.

Thank you all! I think im going to go with the vue Espirit..maybe Infinite if I can justify the cost. You all have been very helpful and I appreciate your opinions and willingness to help. Happy Vueing!!

One thing you should know: there is NO ecosystem plugin for Vue 5 d'Esprit. If you're not going to use ecosystems (something I can't imagine, ecosystems are WAY cool!) you could start out with Vue 5 d'Esprit, expand with the Botanica plugin to get your tree editor, expand with Mover 5 to import Poser animations instead of only stills, expand with other plugins for enhanced lighting and enhanced materials. Yet only Vue 5 Infinite comes with ecosystems. And all those plugins, including Mover 5, are built right in. The price is stiff, certainly, but you get an enormous amount of functionality. Vue 5 Easel is cheap, in the same price range as Bryce 5.5. I think Bryce 5.5 has a little more functionality, while Vue 5 Easel is much easier to use, and renders much faster. Every other Vue 5 version has more functionality than Bryce 5.5, at a higher price tag than Bryce.
