Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 23 7:38 pm)
When I create a prop in Poser 6, the png thumbnail sometimes does not have good color or quality and it shows the floor grid. I enlarge the prop size to fill a 500x500 viewport and then render to 91x91. Export as a png and save to the props folders. Click yes, when it asks you if you want to replace the thumbnail.
I don't seem to have a problem saving my images as .png files. Poser 5 and 6 saves them with a transparent alpha channel. I offere poser 'tubes' to the graphic community and I have them in .png format. Until a couple weeks ago I hadn't heard of anyone having any problem using them. Someone contacted me saying that when they open any of the .png files into their graphic program that it has a background...when it shouldn't. I suggested that if that was happening, that after opening the image in her graphic program, that she should go to her selections area and "load from alpha channel" and it would clear away the background. It worked for her. I'm not sure why she and your friend are having that problem with .png files, but loading from alpha channel in the graphic program might be the fix she needs.

Which PNG files is she referring to?
The ones in her library?
The renders she is saving as .png?
If you can open .png files inside your graphic program, have her do a render, save it as a .png file, zip it and then email it to you so you can open it in your program to see if it's transparent for you.
Post back the results :)

To my knowledge the ones in the library aren't transparent. They will have whatever background you assign to it.... if you save a prop or a light it will give you a .png of the image you are seeing on your screen. If you want a different .png thumbnail, you change the size of your render to 91 x 91 and then render over whatever background colour you want and then save it as the name of the old .png.

Yes, library PNGs do use the alpha channel for transparency. If you add something which is by itself in the scene, i.e. with nothing solid behind it, it will appear on the library background. I do recall something about a bug, or maybe an inconsistency with PNG alpha handling, but I can't find a good reference (can't find anything in this $%^&* forum since the search function was improved beyomd repair). However all thumbnails suddenly losing their transparency after reinstallation sounds suspicious, and I wonder if the image handling libraries somehow got corrupted. Another reinstall might be worth trying.
I second Acadia's recommendation. You get a much better idea of what the library item is, plus your libraries will look a whole lot nicer. Also, I have yet to see one fail to properly display transparency this way. Acadia: the ones Poser puts in the libraries have transparent backgrounds by default, but some odd circumstances can cause flakiness to occur.

A friend is having a problem with her poser pngs. Apparently they're not showing transparent. We had this issue come up before but I can't remember the solution to have them show transparent again. I'm assuming it's with poser 5 but it could also be 6. In any event, if anyone knows how to fix this, it should work for both programs. TIA. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Donna
