This is the pic 3 with the nice sculpted clouds !!!!

I maybe wrong but, I think clouds like these are from another 3D graphic programme and cant be made in Bryce other than using a photo background, only having the options with height and amount of certain cloud formations. Sunlight/Moonlight can be adjusted to suit positions like for example north, east, high and low lights. Better wait for the experts until you leave without hope ;) LOL Marc

make the clouds out of terrains

"Reinstall Windows" is NOT a troubleshooting step.

PJF ( ) posted Mon, 13 March 2006 at 1:36 PM

It's getting tough to tell nowadays, but I'd say the second pic is a photograph not a render.

Ang25 ( ) posted Mon, 13 March 2006 at 1:44 PM

PJF I was thinking that the second pic looked like a photo upfront with a CG sky and background, LOL. If that foreground is CG its amazingly real looking.

Ok clouds through terrains as Wildman2 suggested !! I wd give a try, surely i wd.But what about the 3rd pic .How to sculpt the clouds, is it possible in Bryce ???

Everything in this was done in PS 7...

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Really CrazyDawg ? Nice post. Can u tell us how in Photoshop ?? Then how do you think the creator has made the streaming sun rays come down from the cloud gaps?? The silvery lining of every cloud edge is also noticable feature !!!! All that in Photoshop ??

CrazyDawg ( ) posted Tue, 14 March 2006 at 6:09 AM

It was all done in Photoshop using a plugin called Aurora. That image was actually done on a friends computer who is teaching me how to use such plugins..

loads of mistakes ?? i didnt get u !!lol.I have used the Flaming Pear`s flood earlier. It can magically make scenes filled with real realistic water. But what about the sculpted clouds and the streaming sun rays . Have to try Aurora plugin for PS tommorow.Lets see. Anyways please pass on, if someone has any better idea about making the sky and clouds like the 3 pics individually.

As wildman2 says above: Have you considered making clouds out of terrains? It's been done by some of the Bryce masters... Use two-sided terrain object (between the rock object and the metaball object on the Create menu bar), then go into the Terrain editor, load a fractal-like pic, then use the clipping function to 'open' holes in the cloud. Then add a cloud material. For the sun-rays...volumetric lights positioned strategically should do the trick.

Thanks Rosemaryr. No really i still now havent acquired that expertise to try it out with terrains. But sure i wd give it a try . By saying "Two-sided terrain object (between the rock object and the metaball object on the Create menu bar" do you mean the one named symmetrical latice ?? 2ndly shd i load the fractal like pic from the ones found by default at the terrain editor ? lastly whats the clipping function ?(do u mean negative boolean)? can u help me with these queries ?

Yep, the symmetrical lattice (I tend to get absent-minded 'bout those nasty technical terms grin) As to the fractal thing, you can probably use one of the fractal setting in the Terrain Editor, and the cliping bracket is found on the right-hand side of the big editing window where you do painting effects on the terrain's grey-scale image. By moving the upper and lower ends of the bracket, you 'clip' off either the highest or lowest points of your terrain, and with a good fractal, that would crate the holes in the clouds you're looking for.
