You can get a screen hood, which adds shade to the hood on a bright day but they are akward to use. The screen your are looking for is a screen that has anti reflective cover. i.e. it doesn't reflect the light like a mirror. The fact that LCDs are not the most effective way of taking a pic is known by DSLR users, hence why you HAVE to look thru the viewfinder, viewfinders are brighter and no reflections. But to fix the prob you have right now a screen hood would be the best bet... PLus bigger LCD's eat your battery for Breakfast...

Well... I prefer the idea of the screen hood to the cocktail umbrella.. ;-) Thanx Vera, I'll try to find something like that... About the viewfinder, of course I decided to use it instead but... They have put a digital one! With a smaller LCD screen inside! Bummer! So, that was a little bit better but... well... We can close that discussion if you tell me that those screen hoods exist, I think that will be the solution for me. Thanx a lot.
Hope it helps you lots!!! I'm lucky I've got a TTL viewfinder...

that is why I usually stick to a viewfinder even on a compact camera! there are shaders available, either to snap in or to glue on. examples see linkYou may find these bellows style screens even more effective it can be a pain so glad I have a DSLR http://www.warehouseexpress.com/index.cfm?PHOTO/misc/screen.html

These guys also make hoods and anti-reflectors for camera LCD's....quite popular for DSLR folks. I haven't tried them myself, but have seen many folks using them.In youth, we learn....with age, we understand.
Yes this is annoying. You could do what I do...seeings I am cheap when it comes to buying certain gadgets.(certain I say) Not sure what kind of wallet you use, but mine is a folding one in my back pocket. Take it out after a shot and hold it over the monitor. Mine folds 3 ways so acts like a shroud. Besides the fact I always have it with me, not buying a overpriced shroud saves me few extra dollars I can keep in it.

I've been happy to buy a camera with a huge LCD screen and, this time, I chose a good quality one, accepted to pay the price for it.
BUT I've been pissed off yesterday to see that this fg screen is just a pure bst and totally useless when you try to use the camera on a bright shiny day!
I mean, you know the problem, there's so much light outside that the LCD screen just appears black... totally black!!!
What the hell do they think about when they design their new products??
Are we supposed to use them only when the sky is cloudly?
Crap... I can't believe that.
My first camera was the lowest price I found but I never had that stupid problem with it, I was quite happy with the LCD screen, in any situation...
Has any of you ever experimented that frustration?
Or has a way to get rid of that problem?
I don't know, something like a device we could put on the screen to avoid light reflects, you know, like for the computer screens, for example?
Any idea?
