Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
I don't want to rain on your parade, and I am not prejudging anything that RMP & R'osity may do, but my experience of an "exit interview" was that when my soon-to-be-former manager disagreed with my appraisal of the situation in the office I was leaving, she point blank refused to record my thoughts. But I do agree, it would be useful to have some kind of 'graveyard' with links to where they have gone...
Heh. I think Rosity would be not too much agreed with that category... But sadly the list is growing each month and I'm afraid because different reasons than low sales ... restrictive TOS, vendors unable to show properly their products... Let's do a double list. Over all to know who isn't here now: gone merchants and 'touched' merchants (they still are here but they retired the most of their products). I start Gone: BVH Touched: Arduino, Darkwing-Zero, insomniaworks

Here's something I'm confused on...how are merchants unable to "properly show their products"? So long as the characters/products aren't for models designed as underaged characters (i.e., any MilKid, Rosy Cheeks Lina, Koshini & Kiki, etc.), vendors can use the extended images to show detail of the texture. The first page is to show off the product enough to get you (the consumer) to want to click on the image links at the bottom to see the detailed texture renders. It's like a commercial. As for merchants leaving, that's their own prerogative. We can't make them stay, or even announce that they're leaving. Darkwing-Zero was kind enough to announce her departure in the Product Showcase forum. There are more than likely others who have announced elsewhere on the site, but, at the moment, it's 4:30am, and I need to go back to bed, lol. Point is, if they (the merchant) want to sell you product, it's up to them to let people know where they are. Just like if the deli inside the grocery store down the street decides to go it alone, it's their job to let you know where they've moved to. MS

I think Baron Vlad may be something over a posterchild for the alarm and despondency over merchants leaving, without warning. He seemed to be caught out by a batch of deletions, just after Christmas, and while some of his material was pushing at limits, I still find it hard to understand why some items vanished when they did. But the flipside of that case is that he was setting up his own site anyway. and some of the items are now available again. www.planetvixens.com Still, it does seem to show up a problem. While Renderosity talks of there being a community, it's a bit of an illusion. If the community side were important, there would have been some sort of announcement of where Baron Vlad went. Is there anywhere that would be the town newspaper of the Poser community, rather than the Walmart? It is at this point that a seriously warped version of the Parrot Sketch comes to mind, ending with, "Well, if he is dead I could put up an obituary."
I suppose another perspective is this: Renderosity is a little bit like an incubator. A merchant can come here, learn the ropes, get a sense of what people want, post freebies while they hone their skills, then open a small store and start to build up the business side of things. Once they've mastered all that, they're ready to go it alone, and off they go. Birds don't live their whole lives in the nest where they were hatched. Apparently neither do 3-D artists ;-) Not to deny that R'osity has had problems. Some of their decisions do seem a bit baffling at times. But I agree that the "community" moniker is a bit of PR. I remember when AOL billed itself as a "community" which lasted just about until they went public. Then with almost blinding speed, they disassembled all the community features to replace them with sponsored areas. Suddenly, all those community "members" were merely "customers" or less flatteringly, "eyeballs." This happens all the time with gaming "communities" too. Real communities, by definition, are never owned by a single entity. And any community that occupies a space that is owned by someone else basically exists at the whim of that owner. No matter how good the friendships or how interesting the discussions, if they decide to pull the plug, or kick everyone out, there's not much you can do about it. - Jimdoria ~@>@
how are merchants unable to "properly show their products"? The short list: - No talking about your own product in the forums. If you do, your message is labeled "commercial" and moved to the Product Showcase Forum.

Brokers are not employees. They are independant bussiness owners. What they sell, where they sell, and how they run their bussinesses is completely up to the individual merchant, not a committee that thinks they know best. BVH is a nice guy, good products and had a great site. www.planetvixens.com If you really want to support a broker, buy their products.
# No banner ads for your products unless they are exclusive here... Excusem me but that is BS. You get a free banner as a merchant here. And you can use that banner for ANY item in your store. What you DO get an an exclusive merchant is an EXTRA banner and a front page article. BVH has been gone for months. I miss him and his wonderful stuff and I hope he'll accept paypal - my only ways of paying - in his new store, so I can continue to get it. But to muddle up things with downright lies isn't the way to do it. Renderosity has, probably partially in order to be able to keep accepting PayPal, decided that this site is to be "family Friendly" with all what it entails of no nudity, no fetish stuff, no spanking equipment... As we all know, there'll always be a thin line between what IS acceptable and what is not. And some regrettable fall on the wrong side of the line. Personally I wish I could sell my Koji/James genital morphs here, but alas, only the face morphs for Koji is ok, not the ones for his other head. So I sell those on the "other" Rendero.... site. No biggie for me.

Thanks for the link AntoniaTiger. I have a number of BVH itmes. I like his site. Jimdoria has a point. JHoagland also has an important point. RMP is very restrictive. I believe in a free market. RMP is a little too Orwellian.

After just looking for some Armor for A3... and getting fed 10 or 20 pages of completely irrelevant items (V3/M3/HORSE ARMOR!!!) yet again... Am I surprised to hear the merchants are leaving? Not really. They're only doing what I've (the customer!) been doing for ages now. They're going ELSEWHERE... Silke - Who hasn't found anything in months (can't buy what I can't find) now and keeps going elsewhere.

FYI, Koshini is not an underaged character and I really would like to know where the heck someone got that impression? Koshini was never intended to be a child like character, that's what Kiki is for. Would be nice to get the facts straight before posting.

I really would like to know where the heck someone got that impression? I could probibly point out the reasons Koshini looks "too young" but honestly i think it would do as much good as arguing the whole "its a mesh not a person" debate.

Excusem me but that is BS. You get a free banner as a merchant here. And you can use that banner for ANY item in your store. Excuse me, but that is BS. The point I was trying to make is that merchants get ONE (1) banner TOTAL for which they can use to advertise their marketplace or ANY ONE of their products. They DO NOT get ONE banner per product- they get ONE banner TOTAL. So, how are you supposed to advertise ALL of your products when you get ONE banner TOTAL? Merchants can get additional banners IF their product is exclusive.
VanishingPoint... Advanced 3D Modeling Solutions
You can always make a banner that links to your store. It's not like you get an extra exclusive banner fro each exclusive product either. You get ONE extra banner. How am I supposed to advertize all my things with only two banners? I usually advertize the two newest things, and that's it. Then I hope people look at my store as well. You're trying to make it look (at least to me) like being non-exclusive here makes you unwanted. Given how little you get nowadays for being exclusive, excuse me if I can't join the mourning over the fact that only exclusive stuff is in the front page rotation now. That's about the only perk that is left. No one is forced to be exclusive here, and if people think they can sell better elsewhere, there's noone holding them back. I know I sell pretty well here and my lazyness forbids me to upload the same things with a zillion different sized promo pics justt o sell one or two items a year on for instance Poser Pros or 3DC.

Well Im not a merchant. But I gotta say if the above is accurate., well, stupid on all three counts. Would it not be smart to run banner ads on other comunity or general multimedia sites. Just as they advertise for other sites as well? It would only bring more members who would eventually if not directly go to the RMP.
Actually as to point 1 I think I can see where they are coming from . In a Adobe Premiere forum I belong to, there's sometimes a new member posting some blatant spam rather than going through proper sales channels. On the other hand Why would I want to go to a merchant forum where essentially each merchant is saying buy me, buy me, and oh yeah. Buty me.. I don't come for the commercials. Sprinkled here and there okay fine.
As to point 2 well if the picture or text that comes with says this is my new... available at the thre of course it should go into an adcertising forum.
Ultimately Point 2 and Point 1 then are basically the same thing. If its blatant then yeah commercial. But if its subtle and in tume with the way most discussion posts go. then I would say not

It was news to me in a previous thread that BVH had packed up his store here. It gives me the idea that we ought to have a new feature to keep us informed. It could be called "Merchant farewell of the month". Every month, the most high-profile vendor to abandon the RMP would be interviewed about why they are leaving and where they are moving to. Wouldn't that be useful?
