I'm posting this in the lightwave forum too since I mainly get the error every 5 minutes in lightwave 6. I'll probly get a better responce here though. If you know a solution please respond. Thanx

Penultimately the Mac has had to much work to do and has a bad hangover. Restart, and allow more memory to the applications. Then maybe, and this is a clear and concise maybe, upgrade the hardware.

Error type 1 is a "bus error" which should mean that the program tried to access memory which doesn't exist. However, this is very unlikely and much more often a result of a "repair" operation on system level (something goes wrong, the system tries to cope with it, tries this & that & suddenly it misses the last bus home... :-) I don' think it is a hardware problem, most likely lack of memory or a clash with some odd system extension. Have you installed anything recently?

I haven't installed anything that would mess with the system too much lately but I have alot of 3rd party extensions that could be messing with the performance. I'll try turning some off for a while and see if that makes a difference. Thanx

Found my old copy of MacErrors from 1996, and yes it's a bus error.

Run the latest version of Norton Utilities, that usually keeps those errors at bay.

I was useing the extensions manager, clicking between sets and the computer crashed and gave an error message- Sorry, a system error accurred. "PointDeviseDaemon.2m" address error This is an extension for my macally 2 button mouse. I checked for a new driver but no luck.

Hmm... as far as I know macally does very proper developing, and I almost can't believe that they produce a bug like this (even if the mouse driver permanently accesses its own extension file, there would be no problem moving the file with the manager). It really sounds like something else running havoc on your system in the background. Can you boot without extensions (eg by holding down the shift key on startup)? You might have trouble running Lightwave etc (because they might depend on certain extra extensions), but you can then do the switch in extension manager. If it still crashes then, it's almost certainly system re-install time...

Mac Error type 1 = "You fool, you should have bought a PC!" I'd love to say more, but I'm running for cover right now :) Anthony
