How rude. I love the freebie, and can't wait until my Little Monster (or son, as some people call them) gets off to school so I can play!

Sometimes, download managers do weird things. That COULD explain some of the downloads. Other than that, I agree, why not just link to the thread here and people could click that link?

Bartworx, I have to appologize! I grabbed the freebie last night, but haven't opened it yet, so I didn;t comment. It's really rude, I should have at least said thanx, my bad. Thanks for the freebie, the preview looks great. mike

I just dont get it sometimes... why o why does anybody make a freebee, put a link to it, at the top of their post then bitch when folks down load it, i just dont get it

I think BW means that someone else may have linked to his site without authorization...or just created a direct hyperlink to the download offered on his site, thereby allowing others to download HIS freebie from THEIR site... You know, as if they were hosting HIS freebie on THEIR site (as you probably know, many vendors offer freebies on their sites as a means of driving traffic to them). Anyway, thanks for the freebie BartWorx, looks cool...and I hope your site reconstruction goes well!

I guess you don't get basic maths either...

Since this is BARTWORX' first offering as a freebie, it's possible that he didn't anticipate the traffic it would cause. Whilst there was no image, he did set up a thread earlier, offering this model - the idea of 300+ people through in one day isn't so strange, really. Nor is it surprising, sadly, that few of them say thank you - as I must do now. Thank you for offering this scene, BARTWORX. I'm not sure what I'll use it for yet, but I'm sure I'll find something to do with it one day... :) jonthecelt

But i did and do make remixes hour mixes etc etc. And i mentiont in a other mail that sometimes a mix get downloaded 900 times and no reaktion at al. So im "used" to that i just don't like direct-linking. Those S'holes have almost non traffic on there own site but eat lots of traffic from others... And to be honnest if my site was'nt so limited i didnot even care. But it is limited so i have to take action. I don't wanna pay extra money because of the traffic stealing of others. Thnx for the reaktions all... Chris

350 downloads doesn't seem much for a site that has this much traffic, so i wouldn't be so sure about somebody direct-linking -- why not check your referrer logs? you can see where people come from then. and if you really hate it, a little code can prevent it. it's pretty normal that the number of downloads is vastly greater than the number of thank-yous; witness viewings vs comments in the galleries. most people just don't say anything. thank you for the great freebie!

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 05 April 2006 at 2:04 PM

350 downloads for 290 views doesn't seem too out of line. Maybe some had trouble downloading and had to try more than once? There's a reason why they give us three tries for our market purchases. ;-)

hi Chris, yeah, if it is a direct link, then that sucks....it's damn rude. personally, i dont mind people making my freestuff available, as long as they carry the bandwidth themselves (and gimme a li'l credit of course) just curious, what is the filesize of it? Andi

Attached Link: prevent bandwidth theft with htaccess...

Bartworx, There are ways to prevent hotlinking with htaccess. Bonni has some info on her site about it, you may want to check it out, it's easy as pie and seems to work pretty good! :) I used to have problems with bandwidth theft but haven't had any since I use this htaccess thingie.
