Subject: Figuring out why I cant HyperVue a still...

RyanSpaulding ( ) posted Fri, 14 April 2006 at 12:22 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 3:53 AM

I've got this project where no matter what, I cannot use hypervue for network rendering this still.

HyperVue will work if I render an animation, so it's not a network problem.

It's also not the render settings.  Final, Preview, Broadcast...doesn't matter.  Still greyed out. So it's not the rendering mode.

I have it set to 'render to screen'.

Any other ideas on what could cause this?

Are you using Infinite, or Esprit? I think that only Infinite can HyperVue a still

Do you have "optimise last render pass" on? If so, uncheck it, and you'll be able to use Hypervue.

Do you use any 2.5 hybrid blur, whether motion blur or DOF? This can't be network  rendered for a still.

I have infinite. And no, optimise last render pass is off.

I think it has to do with my Xfrog tree being on my removable hard drive because as soon as I delete the terrain with the trees, HyperVue becomes available.

And on another note, good lord the XFrog Eastern Pine just BOGS my rendering time. BAH!

Glad you figured it out.

A terrain with XFrog plants can make HyperVue impossible? Sounds weird and something the technical support should know.

What is is that HyperVue for stills only is possible for render settings where 2.5 hybrid blur is not used. By default they are "sketch", "preview", "final" and "ultra". Reason? This is a "post" effect that of course is only possible when the whole image comes from one render engine.

For the others you use the "trick" to select "user" and then load the settings ("broadcast" or "superior") from your environment folder in the Infinite application folder. There you then switch the 2.5 blur off and then select HyperVue. I saved those settings then so that i can select it quickly when i need it.

I believe it has more to do with the location of the plant being on my removable hard drive, not that it's an xfrog plant.

I'm rendering out stills of the tree right now or I'd check...

ahhh - i guess you have imported the plant directly into the ecosystem. Then you are right, there is always a link to the "original" data (3ds here i guess) and therefore there can be problems. Normally you would get a message when you try to open the scene, if these data are inside an ecosystem it could be different. I never tried it.

To avoid all that i noramlly do the following. I import the item, save the object then as vob (best with embedded bitmaps) and use this vob then for future work. In the case of an XFrog plant that you maybe want to use more often anyway this even make more sense - you gain a preview image and never again have to worry about texture bitmaps.

I think you also have to render either to disk or the screen to make the button available.  If Render in Main View is checked, the button for HyperVue greys out.

BTW, let me know how good this works for rendering a still - I'm getting a computer for my daughter (I'm tired of sharing!) plus I plan to set up a render farm with the new box...

Peggy, this depends of course a lot what the image content is. And the Cow nodes too. I mostly render in the network - especially when i expect render times bigger than one hour.

A while ago i tested the farm of a friend and sent him a scene that rendered on one of our Windows machine in the office 120 hours in Superior. Lots of blurred reflections and dof. He has 10 really speedy nodes. He rendered it in Ultra and i got it back after a little less than two hours. I was impressed! :D

Wow, that was a great time saver - hope I get a least 1/2 the time with 2 computers...

We have just finished building the computer.  It's up and running, but no software except Windows yet.  AMD duel core 3800+ with 1GB and a 300GB drive.  Darn, now my daughter has a cooler computer than I do!
