THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OK, SOS to AgentSmith

Quest ( ) posted Fri, 14 April 2006 at 6:01 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 1:23 PM

Sorry to put this out this way but since last week (and I haven't been logging in frequently lately) but I've been keeping up with my Norton's Antivirus and MSN spyware and spam protection and  Neowatch firewall protection all these years and it seems to me that ever since Renderosity went on this new scheme my system has been locking up after a short while when visiting the Bryce Forum and it relinquishes me of all control over the Internet and my system crashes (locks up leaving no resort but warm boot). I can nevertheless log on onto the Internet and as long as I don't visit the Renderosity Bryce Forum I can enjoy continued service on the Internet without interruption. So it seems to me as a strictly Renderosity problem. Would you please forward this dilemma to the crew making the adjustments.

I've never before had this problem so this has become most disconcerting. Has anyone else experienced the same?

I'm on Windows ME, Pentium III 1 GH, with 512 RAM. Coincidence? I don't think so.

Some people on AOL and some using Mozilla have reported various crash horrors when visiting the new Rendo. It's most likely an unfortunate interaction with your browser.

draculaz ( ) posted Fri, 14 April 2006 at 7:43 PM

it's most likely something any of those three antispyware/virus proggies don't like about the php code in r'osity's forum. what i would suggest is starting with lowering your internet security levels or at least placing the forum url on the trusted list. other than that, i wouldn't know. it's most likely some weird javascript/activex/php bug that's either due to bad coding on r'osity's side or simply a hokey app on your end.

as an add-on, i would suggest sometime in the near future that you upgrade to something other than windows ME. it is the most bug-ridden version of windows EVER.

This kind of thing is driving me sick as well.  AOL crashes when I visit some threads on this forum and on other it don't. Funny, it was fine when the new PHP stuff started. Now the forum is as unreliable as hell.....

It's virtually impossible for the programmers to fix every single configurational bug that appears, Bryster. While the bug might not appear on a p3 with 512mb or RAM and this and that software, it might on an identical one that's not running something else. It's really up to the Gods, to be diplomatic.

PHP is a superior language and experience than the cgi or whatever we had before. In every sense. What I would suggest is that you either consider switching to more universally-accepted standards (i.e. ie, firefox, opera) for your browsing needs, or just finding some sort of a dirty workaround (disable certain programs while visiting this place, etc).

There really isn't a one-size-fits-all on this. And if the problems continue, solutions have to be found on your end, unfortunately. Unless, of course, the problem appears with other systems as well.

Speaking of which, I'm having this problem, I'm not sure if it's only my system that shows it, but I've heard it's a huge bug regardless of computer configuration. It's managed to install itself on my system somehow and its owner threatens to spread its presence.

Its name starts with a D and rhymes with Baz Studio.

Thanks.

Drac: There is no chance that I'll switch to another browser unless I view the rend via I.E. I'm locked into a one year contract for broadband with AOL.

What is stange is the point I made earlier about everything being ok when the change over first happened.

As for DAZ/Studio - I have had no problems with that  at all or with B5.5c which really makes your point! I hear that alot of peps  (ie:you) have had problems galore.

i think you haven't been paying much attention to the scores of reports of bryce crashing before the 5.5c update came out.

as for DS, it's even worse. and it's not just me

I think it's this damn silly java reply box thingie, which arrived a couple of days later. If your browser doesn't like it, there's going to be problems.

What's it for, anyway? Apparently, being able to write like this is more important than stable and consistent access for all members. Some are saying that the reply box has to be different and special so that Bondware can sell their PHP based hosting packages as unique. Site admin keep saying that the move to the new setup was a business decision, so maybe that's right.

Whatever, I quite like the new forums - but I hate this poxy reply box.

you're right, that's actually bs. it's just a silly add-on you can find for free anywhere on the net. i've had it on the worlds of bryce for at least a year now.

😠 As if it wasn't hard enough to figure out the smiles, now I can no longer cut and paste with the right click of my mouse, I must now use the ctr v method which peeves me to no end. Needless to say, I won't be using smilies much anymore. And yes the message does say I need to change some setting in my browser, but I'm not monkeying with something thats worked fine for me up until this new reply box came into being.
And not that anyone will notice me missing from the forum, but I've found that my thread posting and replying has dropped dramatically. For some reason, I don't feel like this is home anymore. Of course I'll still read as many of the posts as I can. So really I'm still here, just not gonna participate as much I guess.
Sorry Quest for highjacking your thread.

OK, Believe me or not, I've had my system lock up on me also. It happened just a few minutes ago, and when it did, I realized it had happened to me once before. I figured it was due to my impatientence at how slow rosity is at switching between pages. Both times I was clicking the sidebar down arrow before the page had finished loading. While this did not crash my computer, I did have to do a ctl alt delete and endtask of the renderosity stuff that was not responding. And I also could not switch to any other sites till I ended them. So I guess I've got a similar problem.
:(

ps I use windows xp, 1 gig ram, amd 2800, and norton anti.

Ang25 ( ) posted Sat, 15 April 2006 at 11:48 AM

Well I got it to repeat for me. Sorry tjohn but I can't load your thread with particulate cloud tut. I was really interested in that thread too. And this time I didn't click anything. I was waiting for the little blue bar to finish. Sounds like a bug in the system to me.

I've been having a multitude of problems with R'osity, since the switch. I'ts only been R'osity and no other site, PHP or otherwise. There are other PHP'ers around. So I concluded R'osity doesn't like AOL or it's browser. Somehow, IE doesn't seem to work right either.  I seemed to have corrected the hassles, by switching to Firefox. So far, it's the only browser that seems to work right on this site. I've also switched from AOL to my Comcast ISP. For now, at least, it seems to be working.

Ang25 ( ) posted Sat, 15 April 2006 at 4:02 PM

I'm using firefox and am having the problem I mentioned above.

Ang25 ( ) posted Sat, 15 April 2006 at 6:31 PM

And if its of any help, I have tried 4 times to get into Tjohn's particulate cloud tut thread and all 4 times my internet seized up on me. So something about that thread is triggering my problem.

Win98 and ie6 here and I'm getting regular lockups requiring reboots as well after or during visiting this site (every other site seems fine).

edit - though I can get into tjohns thread.

  1. Do you have the latest version of Java?
  2. Do you have integrated graphics instead of a video card?

No.1 might cause some problems if the answer is no. So you might have to update your Java.

No.2 can definitely cause problems if you've answered yes to number 1. (I ran into that problem with my older compys.) It seems that the latest build of Java depends on drivers or some other things that older 'puters/OS don't have.

So you might be damned if you do, damned if you don't. shrug

I am not keen on the new java text box, doesn't work for me unless I change some settings. Hah!
It definitely is a glitch with loading and not wanting to wait before scolling. That buggers it in Mozilla. Some threads seem to do it without any external trigger though.
So far firefox seems to be immune (at least for me).

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

It's not Java, it's Javascript. Which you already have in your browser without a need for a "new version". I, I haven't been receiving e-bots since yesterday morning.

Hope I’m not speaking too soon and for what it’s worth, I’ve noticed that since using MS Explorer instead of MSN Explorer, I have not experienced any crashes. I mush more prefer and always use MSN but it seems that until Renderosity gets their act together I will have to be inconvenienced. I just wonder how long that would take. From the rush of activity and trail dust I’ve seen around here lately, it’s a snowball’s chance in hell that it will be anytime soon.

Ang25 ( ) posted Mon, 17 April 2006 at 6:12 PM

I believe also that my problem is with using firefox and rendo together. Firefox orks fine elsewhere. But I noticed when I use IE at work that I don't have the crashing/locking up.

So maybe I'll use IE to visit here. Seems a strange thing to do, but whatever.

And is it just me or has user numbers dropped drastically. I'm used to seeing 1200+ users each time I've logged in, for the past few days I've been noticing numbers consistantly in the 800 range.
