Can some of you who feel you have really good and "decent" files setups/systems for how you have all of your folders organized, please post some screen shots for me so I can have a look and see how you all have your's set up? I'm going through things tonight (gawd) "trying!" to figure out the best way to have ALLL of my items for Poser better organized, and basically, to make better sense then how they seem right now, which is like everything seems to be scattered all over the planet and not enough in one place. At least they don't look that way to me. Like, I see the downloads folder and figure, OK, I can set all of my freebies and paid for items I get from online all in THAT directory (folder) yet, I look in windows browser and see several folders in there but DON'T see them in Poser when it's running. And why are all these folders soooo scattered through out everywhere sooo much!? It's like seeing zillions of duplicates of the same things over and over of the samely named folders. Can't they or shouldn't they be more organized into less folders all of one type of things in one folder that says, (whatever?), something like, textures or Props and so on and so on? I think you all get where I'm coming from, right? And where do the rest of you tend to like to keep your saved out little scenes? I mean, scenes like, I make a dog and a human in a posed setting and save this, as whatver it's called, Umm, dog_man.p3z or whatever it is? Doesn't matter if I don't remember the exact thing, you all know what I am refering to. Now, do I save this scene in the Man Posed folder, or the Dog Posed folder or some "other" folder or something, like, My Poser Scenes or something? And if so, is there a way to make that kind of a folder right inside of the Poser folders panel to the right? Cuz I don't see one or any place to put a folder like that? Anyway, yes, I'm still pretty brand new at this stuff, but totally willing to learn and hear what others prefer for their own organizational folder methods and all? I mean, i could just move on and start creating all sorts of things, but I would much rather get this area of Poser sorted now, so taht way I can start with a nice clean, frsh system. thanx for any and all help :) And yes, I've been spending the evening reading through the various links that some of you sent me before as well as checking out links like this one, but they fail to really go into any detail on their reasonings for anything, at least not enough for me. I mean, how many Character folders and Libraies with all the same sub folders in each do we need!? LOL The link is at the top of this message as I don't know how to make the link with the URL tags to work for me, or I'd do that LOL Sorry, been a while since I did actual HTNL code stuff, even though I know it's something simple :) thanx.............md :) .

Nobody yet, eh?

Oh well, I'll do what I always do and figure out my own method to better
organize this zillion mile long mess, that Poser seems to want to put you into LOL

Thanx anyway...................md :)

Hey, my answer is short because I'm only a year into using Poser, but just hit the wall with the same problem this week.  But the problem you have seems to be shared by many.  I kept thinking, I must be doing something wrong because I just didn't think Curious Labs would have the program doing installs all over the place, but they must have their reasons because that's what happens to most users after some time.  I gave up a couple of days ago and bought PBooost II off of this site.  It was the best move I could make.  I fixed all of my filing problems in one evening.  I don't think that there is a right way or best way to organize as it is going to vary with the content you use and what you do with Poser.  The Pbooost II just gives you a very clear understanding of a method to the madness which I think is the critical first step.  I just took everything and put it into the default folders to start off with (figures, poses, hair, props, etc. - the program sets that up for you) and then I broke it down to 1. Characters 2. Non-human Characters 3. Things  within each default.  I then broke them down further in each of these.  That worked really well for me.

Good luck!

And here's my 2-cents solution - for our Mac OS X friends. It cost me a couple of weeks to decipher the secret Poser 6.0 ways of putting away runtime files. I've created a map within Poser, in which all my runtimes find a place within a scheme of myself. Incidentally, I've renamed each and every runtime to the actual prop or figure, and even put things like M (for morphing) or P (for Posing) behind them. It works like a charm, and now I only have to backup (on CD) the whole lot once a month or so. And then I download the prop of figure needed in Poser itself, using Add Runtime in the Library. When I'm finished with a project I simply delete them - Poser still keeps track of them, much to my delight - in order to keep a clean slate. I have to tell again, it works like a charm! I've included a JPG to show this runtime system. Should also work in Windows I suppose... On the other hand... I am still a newby when it goes for designing your own props. Could anybody tell me which programme - for the Mac! - is best to design or alther clothing stuff? Thanx, Velijn

Thanx all for these suggestions and thoughts/ideas and I'll also check into that Boost thingy.

Where I tended to really get lost, was when I get files that don't do like the DAZ files do,
which have exc files that automatically install everything where they belong,
instead of me trying to "guess" where everything went?

Thanx again for the great replies and I owe you guys one for this bit of help :)
