Subject: "MAT" files to change textures on poser people in carrara

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 17 April 2006 at 6:18 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 2:42 AM

Hi, I have imported a poser figure into carrara using transposer. I want to save her corneas, irises and pupils as a group as a single file in my shader folder in my browser tray, so I can change her eyes easily if I want to. However if I delete all the other things in the figure's shader except for the eye stuff that I want to keep, than save that file in my browser as a shader, how do I bring it back into carrara so it overwrites (preferably deletes) the iris etc shaders that I would have if I then imported a new poser figure. (Note - My new eye shader that I made has a top shader that is a black circle) I know I'm not explaining the problem well. I don't think I really understand my layers list that I get for my poser figure. Let me put it another way. If I have shader parts of the same name, can I get them to replace the shader parts that are already there, as at the moment they seem to just add on. Love esther

Esther,
Layers list is the only thing you can save and group like that in browser. It will automatically increment the number tho. So no real grouping and no way  to have them replace the existing ones. Layers List are also hard to manage w/o the dcg plugin which can let you add notes. You can cutnpaste in the shader room tho. You might try taking what you like from one file, (copying) then paste it into the other file, then copynpaste into the layers list what you want. You can drag a shader once you get it the way you like to the tray w/ saving the car file tho. Personally, shader domains are easier to deal with and manage, but they got other draw backs. This is an area that needs some work. Just being able to select all in the shaders area and group would help alot.

I think if you save just the multichannel part of the iris layer as a separate shader, you could then drag it back and replace the iris layer of a different layers list shader.  You should be able to replace just the part you need and leave the rest.  Hope this makes sense...

Yep, but I was hoping to be able to replace a group with another group. ie all the eye parts. Love esther

It's got some awkward points, which doesn't bring the power of carrara's shaders to full potential. It's very time consuming. Well I pitched a plugin idea to 2 plugin devs. Maybe I will keep my fingers crossed.
