DAZ's new Victoria Updo textures use Pose files to change colors and textures. Is it possible to do this for Characters? If so, could someone please create a template for this? :) Mike

I don't have the prop, but I'm guessing this is done using a technique similar to the geomSwitching method that Anton uses to make his Changing Hair and Chainging Fantasy Outfit. You can learn more about this method on the PoserTECH yahoo group.

I don't see any reason why the same thing couldn't be done for a character, but I don't think it's something that could be "templated." Applying this method to your characters and modifying it requires some knowledge of the CR2 and other Poser library formats.

Hope this helps.

I figured it out! Woo hoo! Now I can apply a texture to a Vicky figure quickly using a .pz2 file! Any interest in this? Mike

Mike- I am, what's the deal? It will save me trying to find my Poser 2 disks (and if they are 5 1/4" floppies I'm out of luck anyway!)

Um,... you are aware when I say .pz2 files that I'm referring to the extension used by the files stored in the Poses directories, yes? Here's the skinny, Scooter. I use the following template file:

{

version
        {
        number 4.01
        }

figure
        {

        ;Insert material information from .cr2 here.

        locked 0
        }
}

Where it says ";Insert material information from .cr2 here.", paste the material entries from a .cr2 file that already is textured. Material entries have a form like : material Fingernails { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0 0 0 1 ... blah blah blah ... textureMap ":Runtime:textures:Zygote:Characters:MilWom:MilBodyM.jpg" 0 0 bumpMap NO_MAP reflectionMap NO_MAP transparencyMap NO_MAP ReflectionColor 0 0 0 1 reflectionStrength 0 }

Then save the file as something like "vickieMap.pz2" and put it in a subdirectory in the Poses directory. Then in Poser, when you select a figure and click on the vickieMap pose, voila! The character's texture will become whatever texture was in the original .cr2 file. Is that clear as mud? :/ Mike PS Doing a "find and replace" on your vickieMap file can allow you to apply a different texture.

Yep. I'm aware, I've already did some playing around with this, but I couldn't get it to work. I had guessed the pose file is a subset of the Poser 2 save file, and Poser 4 still supports the material parts of this, but that was just my guess on how it works. Anyway, many thanks!

Hey, and it works, too! Thanks again!

Coolness! I hope we're not the only people who are gonna use this. I've made up .pz2's for dmentia's "Four Seasons of Vickie". It's fun to quickly mix and match the skin and hair textures. Next I'm goiong to make a bunch of eye color "poses". :) Mike
