I looked through your gallery, and couldn't find anything that had a bad review. So frankly, I'm not sure what this thread is all about.
BTW, I always type what I want to say in Word first, and run a spellcheck, and then cut'n'paste. That way I avoid spelling mistakes, unless deliberate.

These two statements don't fit. Are you saying you only want gushing praise? If so, perhaps you should turn off comments on your images and write in the notes "Please IM me with praise only."
How are you planning on improving your art without critique?

When you make art you should make it for yourself and no one else. The reason people create is because it makes them feel good to have made something that they like. That's all that matters in the end.
Art is individual and we all have our own tastes. There is no way I know what will make someone happy or go "oooo! ahhhh!" when they look at one of my images, so I don't even bother trying. When I create something I create it to make me happy. When I look at it and can say "I like it!" It's done. If someone else happens to like what I've made, that's a bonus, but if they don't, it doesn't matter to me.
As for comments, just because people don't leave comments doesn't mean they don't like your images.
I have only recently started to browse the gallery, well, at least the first few pages of the "what's new" area, and out of all of those images I might only make a comment on 1 or 2 that jump out at me for whatever reason. That doesn't mean I didn't like any of the others that I looked at, it just means that I didn't comment on them. I could opt to type "Great" or "Terrific" and copy/paste it to every image I look at like some people do, but that would make my comment meaningless. When I make a comment it comes from the heart and each one is unique and sincere, not just something slapped into a comment box.
Also, when you upload an image to the gallery, it's spammed off the first page to page 8 or 9 or even further, within a couple of hours, and many only click on images with really interesting thumbnails because of the large number of images uploaded.
As for some artists who have large numbers of views and comments. If you look at them, you will see that many of the replies come from the same group of people who comment on each other's work. They've been around a long time and have a "clique" of friends/fellow artists who support and encourage one another and comment on each other's images. Nothing wrong with that though.
Keep making art. Keep uploading your images. But do it for yourself only and don't try to make everyone happy with your art. That's something no one will ever be successful in, not even you.

People do not post to public galleries "for themselves and noone else". People come to sites like renderosity for enjoyment of some sort. People do not generally go online for advice or criticism. :)
People post images in the hopes people will like them and praise them. That is normal. I don't think that qualifies as a need for "gushing" praise.
Where was it ever wriiten that the Gallery comments were intended to be "critiques". lol I would only post a critique if the artist "ASKED" for one. We all have seen the type of posts he is refering to.
I don't think it is very supportive by saying she must be only looking for "gushing" praise. Sounds like mocking and a bit insensitive.
Some people may be sensitive, but that doesn't mean they need "toughening up". :) I think panel "traial by fire" reality shows like "americon Idol" have made culture a bit "my opinion is.." crazed.
Just my thoughts. hehe

Agree with Anton - usually uploading pic into gallery means that the author is proud of it and would like to hear some praises - unless the artist specifies that this is something he would like to hear some criticism/advice on. Doing something just for pleasure of doing it means that the artwork never shows up in public.
I have some pics in my gallery I like very very much and was sooo proud of them when uploading - but had received very little to no support, whether criticism, advice or praise. It was a bit sad for me that noone noticed my hard work, but I still like those images and that's why they're still there. I'm not going to delete old, bad or uncommented pics, because they are public sign of how I'm moving forward as an artist (at least i hope I'm moving forward). Grylin - please keep this in mind when clicking "Delete" and be proud of what you're doing :)

Well, one thing clear is we all have different interpretations on the expectation of the gallery :)
As for me personally, the gallery is a public viewing place where I would expect any comments to flow whether it's positive or negative. Because, after all, you are displaying your work to others and they'll judge your work one way or the other, because that's what we humans do. As long as the gallery doesn't specify on what comments should be posted, that judgement will be free to be posted whether that person likes it or not. And I haven't been here long enough to make those kind of statement about this gallery, but I feels as the common theme around here is that people usually post more praisals than negatives. So I could also understand grylin's point of view because all grylin is saying that "hey, most people are getting positive feedback in Rendo's gallery, so why I should I be receiving negative feedbacks which are so uncommon here", am I close or no?
Anyways, just to give my 2cents, this is what I do. Whenever I upload my work here, I usually expect for the worst. Well, maybe not that extreme, but I try to keep my expectations low. So, whenever someone views my work or leave a comment, that always becomes positive for me regardless of the content of the commment. Obviously, as a human being, I do also like to receive praisals like any others, but I do have to keep remind me that critiques are just as necessary in improving my work.

LOL, hey good idea...I think I'll try that!
My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!
just remember, "A critic knows the price of everything but the value of nothing". For a while there there was this one twerp who would constantly slam my work because it wasn't done the way they wanted to do stuff. Thing is, the person didn't post images of their own until over a year and a half later, and it looked like they just copied a tute. to quote Ricky Nelson "you can't please everyone, you gotta please yourself"
Seriously, I wish you didnt! You had some really wonderful artwork in your gallery and it's a shame you removed them!
Now for the silly me... I totally wish you didn't remove the latest pic of yourself!!! Foxy Lady!!! :b_drool:
LOL!! :b_tonguewink: I'm just being a goof!!
If anyone should be cleaning out there gallery it's me!!! Too many L.B.A.s lately and I need to get back on track with the projects I intended to use Poser for!!
Take care grylin!! I almost have the hallway prop done btw!!!
