ranman, trying again to send a post. Just got home and read through the new messages. You are doing an incrediable job on all of this. Between you and Naoki, I think the german soldiers in my Sgt.Rock story are going to be pretty well supplied. Now if this thing will just post.....

I downloaded and they're great!  Also those hat that waffen is making, look incredible!

Great work folks!  Whoohoo!  Thanks from a freebie user!

One thing would go well with this figure, the late-war peaked field cap. I'm not sure if, strictly, it's the same as the cap worn by mountain troop, or part of the tropical uniform such as worn by the Afrika Korps, but for characters in the background I suspect you could get away with it.

ranman38 ( ) posted Sat, 22 April 2006 at 10:48 AM

I will work on the peaked kind of floppy hat that tank commanders wore, as well as a triangle stile hat that the crew often wore. Who knows, I may be able to put out a crew coverall style pretty quick by adapating a race car driver suit I have made.

I will also upload some more textures for the tank commander suit. Camo and field grey.

Waffen,  Excellent job on the field caps. I made mine pretty quickly and was not trying to make it ultra accurate, more of an accessory really. But, if someone wants "posed" Tank commander pictures, or close-ups, I would highly recommend your caps!  Great work.

I appreciate the comments everyone, I have more stuff to contribute, and will try and get a solid place to offer the fruits of my labor.

Since I started this thread looking for uniforms for my Sgt.Rock project and the train I'm working on, thought everyone would like to see what I've got done so far. The window images are rather small, I'm afraid. But on the other hand, this will allow me to use the figures at other points in the story.

The uniforms I've used so far are both ranman38's soldier and Naoki's. Looks like the car's going to be segregated- soldiers in one half and officers in the other. sounds about right

for those that would like to see the rest of the train, check out my gallery-http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=mdbruffy

Some of you have asked to see the artwork I used to put the soldiers into the passenger car. I agree it came out way to small to see much detail. As You'll see, it's just the soldiers, seats and a window in the background. At that size, not much else was needed or could be added. actually, by the time, everything was said and done, very little of the artwork ended up being used.

"actually, by the time, everything was said and done, very little of the artwork ended up being used."

Really ?  That's a pity.  Your groups of people have been nicely posed.

infinity 10- Thanks for the comment. Thing is, the train will be seen-primarily- at a distance, So there's a chance, that by the time the story is actually done, even this much will be hard to see. But even then, I think it'll look better than the blank white windows.

mdbruffy - heres a simple soulion to for respresenting  windows.

I used something like these on some freebies recently because there was no interior.

The trick is not to use too much of a repeating pattern and use something that gives a small sense of depth where non actually exists.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

Not to further hijack the thread, but I noticed that my german soldier pants still has an error in the left knee. I was able to fix the mesh. Would it just be best to upload a fixed mesh to freestuff? Or completely reload my whole figure? I believe it will work, just to load a new obj??? Not sure, haven't tried it yet. Let me know if you have experienced this before. Thanks.

Hi all,

I didnt know there was so much WW2 interest.  Do you guys want authentic battle environments?  If there any interest in a model of the Brest-Litovsk Fortress (first attack of Barbarossa)?  I have 80% modeled it -- its enormous and detailed.

mdbruffy ( ) posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 4:34 PM

mr.sparky- if it's okay, I'll do a screenshot of your  windows and keep it on file. If and when I use the train again, it might come in handy.

ranman- didn't notice any problem with the soldier's pants when I used them, might just depend on the pose. And you didn't hijack anything- this thread was started in search of uniforms- and you're talking uninforms. If there hasn't been too many downloads yet, I would think it would be the easier fix to just upload a corrected figure. Then it's fixed and done and folks won't have to search for both the original and the patch.

muralist- unfortunately, my stort deals with a train and the bridge it has to cross. Sound like a great model though.

ranman38 ( ) posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 4:59 PM

I would be interested in environments.

I have had over 700 downloads, so, I am not sure what to do. I have discoverd it takes a new obj and a new cr2 to fix it.

mdbruffy ( ) posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 5:05 PM

Still sounds like the simpliest fix is a new upload of the entire, corrected file.

Helgard ( ) posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 5:37 PM

Muralist, I would love that environment. I am working on two other environments as well.

mdbruffy  - no problems - use as desired.  (same goes for everyone else.)

If you need a lossless version IM your email address and I'll send you  the original .BMP file

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 6:30 PM

Muralist I would like that environment, too.

ranman38 ( ) posted Mon, 24 April 2006 at 7:49 PM

if you have had problems with my german soldier pants mesh having a break in the left knee, you can go here

http://www.vanishingpoint.biz/freeitemdownload.asp?freeitemid=321

and pick up a fixed version. This will replace everything, or you can delete the m42pants.obj and m42pants.cr2 and replace them with the new one of each.

Thanks RanMan, and welcome to Vanishing Point.

Attached Link: German uniforms on Vanishing Point

In case it hasn't been announced yet, the German uniforms are now available in the Free Stuff section at Vanishing Point. Also, we are happy to host these items at Vanishing Point so you don't have to spend $27.95 on a hosting site. :)

Though, you can get much cheaper plans if you shop around: some hosting companies offer plans for $7.95 a month for 5G of space. Just make sure you don't use a "free" hosting company: it may be free for you, but the hosting company may annoy your visitors with unwanted pop-ups, banners, cookies, and other annoyances.

And I don't mean to sound nit-picky, but why are there Renderosity product license files in your zip file? ;)
