Subject: Official news about Hexagon 2

Orio ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 5:58 PM · edited Fri, 10 January 2025 at 4:46 PM

I received an email from DAZ.

The early upgraders will receive an email tomorrow with the links to download Hexagon 2 and the hexagon bonus pack.

The Daz welcome gift is also described: it'll be a $30 Platinum club membership (probably of 4 months lenght) plus a $100 voucher.

Those who are already members of PC get a 4 months extension.

The email does not specify if the voucher shall or not be restricted to DAZ originals, and neither it says if it'll have or not an expiration date.

Do people who bought Hex 1 before I forget exactly what date still get the upgrade to 2.0 at no charge per Eovias original statement before daz bought them?

I am afraid I don't understand what you ask.

In any case, Hexagon 2 is a paid upgrade - at least, it was at Eovia - I don't know what plans DAZ has about it.

Tunesy ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 6:15 PM

Originally Eovia said if you bought Hex before a certain date (exactly what date I don't recall off hand but I could find it) then you would get Hex 2 at no charge.

No, the deal was that if you pre-ordered before a certain date you could get a discounted price.

Which is what i did by the way.

...there was another promotion besides that.  I'll dig it up later if need be.

Edit -- Here it is.  From Eovia press release #54:

"Eovia expects to ship Hexagon 2 in April, for both Macintosh OS X and Windows. Hexagon 2 will be competitively priced at US$269. Customers who purchase Hexagon 1 between March 1 and April 30, 2006, will be eligible for a no-charge upgrade to Hexagon 2..."

Only applies to that two month window though.

Does it sound like those of us that bought the Hex 1 to be upgraded to 2 seem to be getting left out of the picture. I bought the big package Carrara 5Pro and hex. wonder what is going on with that. I'm getting that nervous feeling again.

wdupre ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 7:22 PM

yes Daz will honor preorder deals.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 7:34 PM

Are we, are we going to get a deal like whats being offered. I bought the Hex 1 to be upgrade to 2 deal but that is still the same as pre ordering Hex 2 except It cost more because I bought Carrara pro too. I have been searching every where and I can't find one statement that tells us what is going on. Just the Hex 2 pre order statments.

MachineClaw ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 7:37 PM

The pre-order was up until April 28th, 2006.  Is the product going to be able to be purchased uptil 28th 30th whatever and still get "pre-order" status?  the buyout kinda preempted the selling of Hex.  Payday for a lot of people is April 28th.

Jcleaver ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 8:38 PM

Just a quick clarification to the first post about the $30.00 Platinum Club membership.  It costs $29.95 to join and you get 1 month with that.  My guess is they are basically waiving the membership fee.

Meaning, if you not a Plat Club member, you get 1 month.  And if you are already a member, you get a 4 month extension; about the same as the monthly fees are (which is $7.95 / month)  DAZ is doing this so that people who have memberships already see a benefit.

jval ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 9:14 PM

This from the FAQ on DAZ's site:

Vouchers are valid with all non-Platinum Club**, non-resell items. Vouchers can be used to purchase third-party Published products (often called "brokered" products). The voucher amount that can be applied towards the purchase of a Published product varies per product. Generally, this amount is about half the total cost of the item. The actual voucher amount applied towards a Published product is listed on the checkout page on the screen immediately prior to your order being processed or placed.

When purchasing any DAZ|Original items, the full voucher amount will be applied.
Vouchers are automatically associated with your account, and will automatically apply towards any qualified purchases, unless otherwise specified. Any remaining balance will remain on your account until spent, or expired. No other action is necessary.

Vouchers generally last for 30 days.

**Some special vouchers may work on Platinum Club items, but will still only be applicable toward the DAZ portion of the price, generally up to 50%.

I don't know for sure, but I think you would qualify. Sounds like a pre-order to me. If you don't get the email and links, give DAZ support an email, and I am sure they will be helpful. However, they may be busy for the next few days.

You could try looking at their newsletter at the Eovia site concerning the Hex announcement.

nomuse ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 10:25 PM

Half the total cost of the item? So this isn't a voucher at all. It's a one-time limited 50% off sale. To buy a copy of Bryce, or more pre-made models. Yippee.

Tunesy...were you going to take an upgrade path? Because remember the carrara beta deal. You did not get the free 5 when you bought 4 if it was an an upgrade or companion. So unless you were going to buy it at full price ...may not apply. Either way I would ask someone.

some items are only 1.99...nice models(as a PC member). Mimic Pro is also nice if you don't have it...cool program. It's more than we would have gotten so I am not sure what the issue is. I think you still get at least 30% off any other discount on anything in the store as a PC member(this will be free).

Last week I took my wife and a couple of visiting friends out for dinner and the bill was almost $300. The restaurant appreciated my business so much they gave us free after dinner mints. How dare DAZ offer me a paltry $130 worth of discounts for a $200 purchase!

Tashar59 ( ) posted Wed, 26 April 2006 at 11:45 PM

I think the point is why the deal for one way of pre order and not for both. If your going to say thanks to the customers why not all of them that bought into the new version.

falconperigot ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 3:09 AM

I suppose it's understandable that DAZ want their new customer base to be aware of their products, especially with the distinctly odd timing of this buy out. However I imagine that there will be quite a few users of Carrara, and many more of Hexagon, who aren't remotely interested in buying 'content', with or without discounts.

Monsoon ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 6:55 AM

I talked to DAZ yesterday on the phone and they said that the buy Hex1 with free upgrade to Hex 2 deal will indeed be honored.

Actually, it's closer to $160 IMHO because the four months of PC membership are sold at about $8 a month in addition to the $30 value of initial PC membership setup fee. :thumbupboth:

jval ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 7:34 AM

... Actually, it's closer to $160 IMHO...

Could be. I think I saw someone post that DAZ valued this portion at $30, suggesting that it only covered the sign-up fee, which includes the first month. I don't really know though as I have seen nothing official. So that's how I arrived at $130.

It doesn't really matter though- it's all icing on the cake! :)

Jcleaver ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 7:37 AM

e-pakrat, I think you may be missing something.  They aren't waiving the setup fee.  One only gets 1 month of PC membership, unless they are already a member.  Then they get an extension of 4 months.

Letterworks ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 8:02 AM

From reading the DAZ email, you get the Platinum Club free for one month (set up fee included) after which you can opt to remain a member either by paying the monthly fee or by purchasing an annual membership. Those that are currently members receive a 4 month extention for free.

so my total including the $100 voucher = $130, plus the Gold Package, plus the HEX 2 upgrade. Can't see what else DAZ could do to sweeten the pot... from their stand point anyway.

I'm willing to give them the benefit of a doubt at this point, as long as my U/G shows up today as promised. ;*)

"I talked to DAZ yesterday on the phone and they said that the buy Hex1 with free upgrade to Hex 2 deal will indeed be honored."

That still dosn't sound right. The hex 1 deal was a pre sale of hex 2 that gave us a version to use till the new Hex2 was released. So what is going on?

Ringo ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 9:31 AM

Beryld It does sound right.

If you had order hex 1  just before Hex2 was announce you were to get Hex2 for free and that is what DAZ is going to honour.
Anyways you will be getting an email from them soon. ...even today.

 Ringo

Tashar59 ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 9:45 AM

No. I bought Hex 1 after Hex 2 was announced. That is what I'm talking about. I bought a pre hex 2 in a hex 1 version with an update to Hex 2 WHEN RELEASED. Don't know why that is hard to understand.

Monsoon ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 9:58 AM

Let's take it from the top......

If you bought Hex 1 between March and April 30, you get a free upgrade to Hex 2.

DAZ  has stated that they will honor the deal.

Thats about it.....

Tashar59 ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 10:54 AM

That's pretty fucked up. I was under the impression from the Eovia site that I was pre ordering Hex 2 but got Hex 1 to use till the release of the update. I bought the big package. C5P with Hex. I wouldn't have bought if I had known Daz was buying at the same time.

Letterworks ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 11:09 AM

beryld,

May I suggest that you go to DAZ3d.com or Eovia.com and get the information tocontact some one there speak to them?... Why get upset by second hand supposition when you can ask the source?

Tashar59 ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 11:23 AM

Your right, I was waiting for Daz to open. Then I just read a post that states that those of us that bought these packages have to wait. Thanks for your money, now go away till we say you can get the update. Nice sucker punch.

ren_mem ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 11:32 AM · edited Thu, 27 April 2006 at 11:33 AM

beryld,
The terms are no different than with Eovia, just DAZ is throwing in more. Nothing to complain about. DAZ hasn't changed anything. You should always ask the company before buying anyway.(I say that beause these upgrade or promos can sometimes be confusing) It takes time to process...we all have to wait in line. If you are not happy you can call customer service and find out what is what.

Tashar59 ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 11:59 AM

I did ask the company before I bought. Nothing I can do about it now.

And I really hate the fact that I love using both Carrara and Hex.

ren_mem ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 1:18 PM

That wasn't an accusation. Like I said I have seen nothing to tell me that eovia's exact terms will not be met plus the bonuses daz is giving. I wouldn't worry about somethin till ya got somethin to worry about 😄

Everyone needs to relax and give DAZ a chance. So far anything DAZ has done has not effected either product for the worse at all. Only time will tell in regards to DAZ, Carrara and Hexagon. Carrara has be passed around like a bad date from one company situation to another for years and yet it is better than ever. What basis does anyone really have that says DAZ won't continue to do a great job?

I feel DAZ really sweetend the Hexagon 2 pre-order deal. Heck they gave us something for nothing. It was great what DAZ added on. I liked it! If this is any indication of how DAZ functions I think it looks pretty darn good!

Good Luck DAZ

Monsoon ( ) posted Thu, 27 April 2006 at 3:21 PM

For my particular situation Eovia's press release #54 quoted earlier in this thread answers the question.  I can't speak for the other promotional iterations though.

It has been delayed slightly.  Check your email if you pre-ordered.  Something about a server problem in Paris.  Should be fixed early tomorrow morning Paris time.

This just in:

Dear Hexagon enthusiast,

As one of the individuals who pre-ordered the upgrade to Hexagon 2, I had expected that by this time today you would have the new Hexagon 2 download links in your in-box. We have set-up a dedicated source specifically to deliver the download links to those who pre-ordered the upgrade.

We are ready to send them. Unfortunately, the server that hosts the email blast service in France is experiencing problems that cannot be fixed right now. Given the time difference, the situation cannot be corrected until business opens there tomorrow.

We will have this situation fixed early tomorrow morning Paris time and have the links to you shortly thereafter.

My apologies for this delay, and I thank you for your continued support and patience.

Best regards, Bob Stockwell Vice President, Sales and Marketing DAZ Productions Inc.

Any word on when DAZ will release Carrara? I would sure like to get that for a buck 99 as well. Also, I've had nothing but excellent service from DAZ. Been a customer for quite some time now. I agree with what I have read from some other posters though, their website could use some work. It's pretty obvious who they are marketing to and I don't always fit the mold.

Jcleaver ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 7:36 AM

I read elsewhere that DAZ will not be offering Carrara for $1.99.  However, they did say it would be a good intro price.
