I'm trying to get textures on a character from Poser4 to work correctly in Bryce4. I fairly happy with the outcome, but I can't get my character's armor to have that nice shiny metal finish like the render from poser. I used reflection maps and texture maps in poser, how does this work in bryce? Any help is appreciated. Bryan

Hmmm..well I can't tell from the picture what the problem is.. The picture here is totally pixelated. If you can post a better pic that would be great. But the best advice I can give is to use some of the preset "metals" in Bryce. You can get some great chrome, silver, effects in Bryce.. If you need to tweek it a little use the sliders and play. Hope that helps a little. Otherwise check out some of the tutorials about importing Poser textures and things into Bryce.

I just rendered the helm in the pixelated picture to show that I wasn't getting the same effect as I was in Poser. What I decided to do was to export the poser figure again with no textures to the body or the clothes and go in bryce and apply the texture to the body parts 1 by 1, and then to the clothes parts 1 by 1. However, I will apply metal materials from bryce presets to see how they work out on the armor clothes. I cannot select all the character body parts at once since there are clothes on top of her, so I'm having to click tab to get to the next part. Is there an easier way to get all the character body parts selected, then all the clothes on top selected? Thanks for the link too...it did help out some. Bryan

thanks again...I read the tutorial, however it doesn't address the problem of having to tab through all the parts when the figure is layered with clothes. Bryan

You can tab through all the clothes using the VCR controls, next to the Solo Mode button in Bryce. All the imported objects are Meshes, so by clicking one of the VCR buttons you can tab through all the meshes in the scene, one by one, in the order which they were added. The outer buttons will make you jump to the next object type (terrain, sphere, cone, mesh, etc), and the inner buttons will tab between objects of the same type. You can also select each mesh individually by using the little triangle on the selection palette and choosing the "selet mesh" submenu.

When I'm converting a figure from poser to bryce I do the texture setup in a blank working file with just the figure. First, I set the ehole figure to matte grey. 2nd - I tab through the ungrouped model and assign each piece to a family. For example: matte skin, shiny skin (eyes, teeth, nails), hair, pants, belt, shirt, boots, sword. 3rd I select by family and group them together. 4th I select all in a family and assign my textures. It's tedious but the simplest method I've come across for complex figures. If you're resusing characters often (a serios or comic) then save the materials to reapply later. as far as the metal thing - poser does a weird thing with the reflection maps. The best you could replicate it is by a: using bryce metals or b: using your texture and playing with the specularity, specular halo and reflection in bryce. If I'm designing a character for use in bryce I don't set up the shiny parts until I hit bryce - poser just doesn't cut it for me BTW - very nice armour - in my experiance you can't bend your (right) leg like that in that kind of articulated armour. Or at least I couldn't (and the straps chafe like a ....)But it's eleven armour, so maybe the jointing is better :) Hope that helps some Lyrra

and welcome to dyslexic spellers anonymous. Whew. I was worse than usual that time around :) Sorry - I really was trying to write in english :) Any wonder why Bryce's backwards interface thing doesn't bug me? :) I'm used to going the wrong way anyhow. This just increases my chances of getting it right :) Another tip - before bringing in your figure (obj) go into the mat editor, click on the p over on the right thingy stack and load all your textures in first. That way the stupid program won't yammer at you that it can't find whatever. (I think its annoying) also you can save a picture list for future use here Good luck Lyrra

To select objects beneath others, hold the ctrl key and click the object...a popup will appear that allows you to select the objects currenly beneath the mouse by name... once there Id suggest changing the object's family color so that it will be easier later... for info on this see the tutorial: http://www.brycetech.com/tutor/bryce/brycealive.html that tutorial contains flash files that detail some of the application of material to Poser imports. luck BT
