Now this is interesting news !

I didn't realize they were so close to Vue 6 already.

This has really gotten me &%&&$#*( off.

We beta tester have bugs submitted for more updates for Vue 5 and we can not get any answers or get them to fix so can continue working with beta builds.   I want Vue Infinite fixed before going to Vue 6.   If its got bugs like Vue 5 and INfinite I feel sorry fot the poor souls who try to use it. :(

I can not believe what I am reading when there is work that has not been finished with Vue Inf and bugs we know that are in it.  ..................

This is why e-on has been so quite and not corresponding with its user that have been reporting problems.

Yes I am highly upset with how this has been handled. :)
Ok enoiugh for now but I discorage anyone from falling to any promotion tricks that we fell far last time with a 50 dollar voucher. :)    Through ranting now. :(

I for one am pleased to see this.  Just because they announce 6 doesn't mean they won't be fixing 5 anymore.  If they waited forever to announce this they'd be as dead in the water as Bryce was.  Would that do us any good either?  All they've announced is a competition with Vue 6 Infinite as the prize not a release date and anyway later this year would fit with the frequency with which it's come out in the past.  The panel of judges for the competition certainly makes interesting reading too.

I'm eagerly awaiting the official Vue 6 announcement; I've sent them tons of suggestions so I just can't wait to see what did they implement...good to see that Vue is alive and well! (...being a Bryce refugee lol  )

Just because there's a contest to win Vue 6 doesn't mean Vue 5 is dead.  This contest is, i bet, in place TO get great beta testers for Vue 6.  Chill people...I bet we wont see Vue 6 until October or November still...

The page says that their announcing the winners on July 1st.
So at least 2 months (almost certainly more) before they start beta (which is part of the three prizes).

At least it's a good way to find people who can push the limits of the app and get them involved in testing.

Someone mentioned that pre-ordering software from Eovia was like "paying more for software and having to wait until everyone else got their copy."  I hope E-on doesn't pull one of those.  I hope they treat V5I customers who paid the $599 with a nice upgrade price for V6I.

I agree, it will be a while before we see anything. They have it posted pretty plainly (two places no less) that no further info is available on 6 and all they say for the release is it's this year. I think I read somewhere that Phoul is off on a job and you know we'd be expecting to see a tease animation by him as part of their marketing.

I suspect we'll see more Vue 5i updates in the weeks ahead.

ksanderson ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 5:41 PM

I've seen nice upgrade prices from e-on in the past. No reason to think they'd change that.

GPFrance ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 6:29 PM

I think that there is no hurry to worry about 6 release. We know nothing about that one, up to now. When they made 5Inf, we still got some updates for 4Pro. What worries me more, is the Picture Submission Agreement of the contest : "...authorizes e-on software to publish and/or distribute any and all pictures sent by Contributor to e-on software (...) on this website and/or with, or in connection with software, CD-ROMs or other products developed for the commercial market by e-on software(...)" Oups, please translate... I don't like lawyers talk (I never understood the european constitution text ;-). When I try to burn that one down, it reads : "...authorizes e-on software to distribute any pictures sent by Contributor ... ... and/or with, or in connection with software ... developed ...by e-on..." English isn't my language. For my simple brain, that phrasing would mean that they could use and publish anything one ever made with e-on software - seems to be one "or" to many in there. I don't like that.

ksanderson ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 7:18 PM

It just means you give e-on the right to publish the pictures submitted in any way they deem appropriate for promotional purposes. That would include the use in promotional and marketing material in the future for anything in their product line. Wouldn't mean they would use it, just that you release them to do so if they want to. It does not mean that they have the right to anything you create with their software. It's just standard coverage. Hope that helps.

Kevin

agiel ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 7:38 PM

I confirm ... this statement applies only to the contest. They usually reserve the right to use your picture for ads in magazines or to put them on their website.

You are still the original owner of the picture - you just agree that they can publish your picture without asking you again since you agreed to it by entering the contest.

bobbystahr ( ) posted Mon, 01 May 2006 at 8:09 PM

Indeed that's common in the whole art industry in terms of contests....actually can be quite a career boost to have your art splashed all over a popular product...Vue seems good about crediting the creators as well from what I've seen...a + + situation......

This is quite a dilemma for me. It is the main reason I have never submitted artwork to E-on.

By doing so, you are basically giving them your artwork for free. They will OWN your submitted work  from that point on.

GPFrance-they cannot publish ANYTHING you have done...only what you have submitted to them... but they will still own it just as much as you.

It's a shame stupidity isn't painful.

agiel ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2006 at 1:34 AM

Well.. yes and no. You are not giving away your work - you still have the right to publish by other means. What e-on secures with this agreement is the right to publish future copies of your work without asking you each time for your permission. For example, I found one of the images I sent them on their website, on a brochure and in magazine ads. I also have that image on my website, in my renderosity gallery and I keep the right to use it elsewhere if I want to (t-shirts, mugs, whatever..). The problem is really if you want to sell your work and give exclusive reproduction rights to a publisher.... but then again, that publisher would probably not like to see your work in a contest :)

Vertecles ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2006 at 1:48 AM

Quote - The problem is really if you want to sell your work and give exclusive reproduction rights to a publisher

That's the whole point.
I am apprehensive to say the least.
Not being able to sell ones most  notable artworks is what worries me.

Agiel - has having your work "on their website, on a brochure and in magazine ads" benefited you in anyway?

It's a shame stupidity isn't painful.

bobbystahr ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2006 at 2:23 AM

Aaaah..there's the thing of it. A large percent of us here are 'hobbiests' and as such remuneration for our work is often the last thing on our minds[here I go speaking for the world again..LOL] so this is not really that much of an issue....most "professional artists' don't really enter contests all that much as I know when I am actually 'working ' at something I don't have a lot of time for contests.

In real life I am a singer/songwriter and to this point in my 43 years doing that honourable craft, I have never had the time to actually enter one of the hundreds of 'songwriting contests' I have been dutifully been informed of by folks trying to 'help'. Hoping I have made my point, and not too bluntly, I toddle off to bed...nite all...LOL

I wasn't claiming to be speaking for everyone..only myself.

My motivation would be solely for getting a foot in the door to being a professional artist.

As opposed to receiving recognition purely for ego or a free software package.

My motivation is greed :-)

Just like E-ons really - No need to pay a professional artist to create an excellent image for their next box cover-art when there are so many talented armatures to do the work for free.

It's a shame stupidity isn't painful.

well anyhow we see it v6 wont kill off development of v5, v5 will mature and be developed for quite some time so be happy you guys know that v6 aint that far out and just enjoy v5 getting better by time.

a company always need to release new generations of it´s applications to get new users and a constant cashflow, it´s the name of the game, if they woudnt do that there would be no patches or updates or even an r&d team for your beloved application.

As for v5 in all honesty it´s come a long, long way since it´s initial release, alot of stuff to squish left in it and or improve upon but it´s still being worked on and not abandoned, so im atleast happy to see v6 being mentioned officialy.

Peggy_Walters ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2006 at 8:31 AM

Bet they will make an announcement about Vue 6 at Siggraph.  I think that is in late August this year.  And no, I don't think that means they are not working on Vue 5 - They are coming out with beta releases all the time and so far each one has worked fine for me.  The upgrade prices are are also reasonable, so all I need now is some time to put together an entry for the contest.

To answer Vertecles question - that image did not get me any contract :)

However, it did put my name in circulation and that's always good exposure. People like Pmermino, Erka or Sacada would probably have different stories to tell regarding the famous pictures they provided to the boxes of Vue.

And peggy - Siggraph is first week of August this year.... counting down the days :)

bobbystahr ( ) posted Tue, 02 May 2006 at 9:20 AM

Good answer Agiel...lets consider this put to bed as Vertecles has admitted his motivation is greed...LOL...kinda nulls all the other yakking in this part of this thread...except for the ego part...there are some of us so physically isolated from other 3D artists that recognition of this sort is the only way we can assess, objectively, whether or not we're improving,....it's hard to tell, with the great software around, if you are getting better, or the software is, sometimes...LOL

Thank you all for clearing my misunderstanding of the text, I mis-related parts of the phrase. If e-on's right to publish concerns the image the artist submits for this contest, it looks like an honest exchange for artists who want to be known. For craftsmen who do their work, it seems of lesser interest. Surprises about e-on mentionning v6 ? I would have been surprised if they didn't. I hope that Vue5 benefits of that development by several updates. We got a good one for 4Pro, when came 5Inf. Bobbystahr, you have me happily laughing about myself : For sure, I like Vue... because it has my jobwork look much better than it is !

I wonder will Vue 6 Infinite be released at same time as the standard Vue 6 or will it come out at a later date (How long a gap was there between Vue 5 and Vue 5 Infinite?). I was going to upgrade to Vue 5 Infinite but will now wait till more info on Vue 6 is available (upgrade prices etc.); I would hate dish out money now only dish out more in the fall.

I'm really curious as to what 6 would have that 5 doesn't.  The ecosystems feature was something that MADE me get 5 infinite.  That feature alone has taken my renders to a whole new level of world building.  I couldn't live without it.  Could there also be something equally as useful in 6?  I don't follow the inner circles, so I'm not sure what's been talked about as far as new stuff.  I will gladly shell out money for an ugrade...as long as there's something that I'd really want from it.

Just because they announce 6 doesn't mean they won't be fixing 5 anymore.

Seems like you don't know E-On to well. We've seen it with version 4..... As soon as Version 5 was announced, even months before release, the bug fixes of V4 were getting less and less. In the end the result is that there are still a good number of bugs in Vue4 (and in Vue3 and 2 also) which will never get fixed in Vue 4, but they did get fixed in Vue 5 alone.

E-On has a huge tendency to develop buggy software and never fix it completely, with every version I've used there always have been a couple of bugs left in it, which were stopping me from creating the desired scenes. I didn't pay good money for a buggy application......

I'm pretty sure that in the end all of you are stuck with Vue 5 and a lot of bugs and are forced to move onto Vue 6 to get the bug fixes. They've done that with each version and I'm sure they will do it again. I think it's their policy to force you into buying the next version.
