Has anyone done an animation that makes a character look like they are breathing?

A simple way would be to animate the scale parameters of the chest slightly... you'd have to experiment to see how much movement you wanted, and if it would affect the poses your figure was in, but I think it would have the desired effect. --

At the risk of frustrating you, the answer is yes, and I believe that magnets were used. I have a zipped pz3 file that sadly came without a readme file to identify the author. I would not be comfortable redistributing the work of others without permission. Even if it turns out to be "free," many people like to control the distribution so that they know how popular their work is. But perhaps my mention will draw somebody who has the info on where to get it...I just checked Morph World, but it doesn't appear to be there. If nobody checks in on this thread, I would strongly recommend posting at the various poser-oriented forums around the 'net. Someone will know where this came from.

Well, I can frustrate you by giving you this link. It involves magnets and other funky stuff, so stay on your toes. If you have any questions on it, ask someone else. Cuz I dont have a clue. :-) ..->[ aMP-3 ]<-..

Servo -- I thought of that too, but I wanted to see if the "masters" here at the forum had come up with anything. kblade -- No frustration. ;-) amp -- Thanks for the link.

I did an animation of someone breathing for a company I used to work for. It was an animation that used overlays to show how the diaphram works when you inhale and exhale. I used Poser for the base art. I used different scales in X, Y, Z to get the effect. In my animation the chest expanded side to side more than vertical. I did not have to adjust the values very much to get the effect I needed. Of course if you want someone to be gasping for air you might need to really exagerate the motions. In any case I think the side to side expands more than the up and down . I hope this helps.

Ok. Here is my first attempt. It uses a chest magent. I may need to adjust the x-scale though. The render is at the final size. I'm creating a Microsoft Agent character. Comments please.

So far, so good...but I would agree with Gawain...a bit more on the x scale, a bit less on the y scale. The collar bones seem like they travel pretty far up. And maybe a bit slower in the final mix (unless she's getting worked up over something). But overall, a good first attempt.
