THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Planning my retirement

draculaz ( ) posted Mon, 15 May 2006 at 11:58 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 8:08 PM

Well I thought that a thread entitled 'Get me Carrara 5' would most likely be a hint, but since that's not enough, I figured I might as well state it more clearly... at least for those that care.

I have been unable to render anything worth my while in the past two months (at least). A combination of things, both in the real and cyber worlds, have stopped me from being able to take a project from start to finish. I just can't be bothered anymore, ya know? I blame it on a lot of things, mostly from real life, but at the same time, when you have a lot of stuff on your platter, thinking about relaxing and then realizing 'oh wait.. crap, that Bryce render I've been meaning to do for a few days now is going to take me AGES' isn't much of an incentive.

And I'm not talking render times. Ever since I've played with the demo I've  been mesmerized by what that 3D app can do, the qualities it has over our venerable program. And I've honestly grown sick and tired of waiting around for Bryce 6 to come out only to know that I'll be dissapointed, that I'll scream and rave about some new 24h bug or whatever.

So I figured that once I get what I want, through whichever legal way possible -and yes, that has included whoring myself online, I might be happy and that spark that has left me months ago might yet return.

No, but seriously, if u find a little time, try and see if you can get some free lance commercial stuff done maybe? Even simple things such as 3d logo's will make people happy. You spend a few minutes converting their illustrator file to a grayscale heightmap, slap it onto a lattice, place it in a scene, fiddle a little with light and shading if neccesary. let it rotate or whatever and voilá instant money making 😉 Surely u can render stuff like that.

Should help get u closer to that carrara 5 pricetag i think... right?

it's not a question of not having the money. i have them, it's just the combination of ways I have them doesn't work.

like i'd have the money to pay, but then i don't have access to paypal or a credit card. so i need to increase my daz bucks. plus i want to use my daz bucks and what not.

What you could do is wire the money to someone in europe (i imagine the transfer process is simpler if it all stays in the eu) and get them to buy you a daz gift certifcate which you can then spend along with your daz bucks at DAZ.... if the selling spree doesn't work out.... and assuming you can buy software with gift certificates.

hmm..there's gotta be some sort of way to do that. Credit cards, letters of credit, money orders (tho I doubt Western Union's gone that far east..;), etc. It should be whatever Carrara would accept in payment, besides Paypal. Showing my complete lack of Eastern European geography,  what about neighboring countries? I would imagine Hungary would be a bit more 'hooked up', since they didn't have to deal with (pronunciation only, ain't no way I can spell it..;) chowcheskyu 'the ventilated'. Maybe you could strike up a deal with some of those American troops that are secretly (woops..my bad) in Rumania.

In short, there's more than one way to do it, I'm sure. Worst case, you can get earlier versions of it like I did; through 3d Art, Digit, Computer Art magazines, etc..they're Brit mags, and you'd probably even get them faster than we do in NC..;)

Just don't use stormpay :-P they're rip-offs. I know about multiple cases where they make up lame excuses to just randomly take money off ur account for no good reason.

draculaz ( ) posted Tue, 16 May 2006 at 11:21 AM

those aren't really options... moneygram or western union charges an ungodly amount for a transfer. i might as well do it through a bank wire.

but all the same, thanks for the advice

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 16 May 2006 at 5:36 PM

Western Union has gone as far as Turkey so I'm sure they do Romania too.

If you would like Drac I could do the using PayPal thing, but then you'd have to trust me with all that money hehehehehe 8)

But I'm serious, I have a DAZ account and a PayPal account, and I live in the UK, and you know how pally all US companies are with folk in the UK, you could have yur dream object in no time at all. 8)

BTW I'm not saying that US, UK thing is so great, getting tarred with the same brush is a saying that comes to mind.

So, you're able to get Carrara 5? Cool, congrats.

That's the best (DAZ) software solution for you I would say, what with your traditional modeling skills and knowledge!

still a few bugs to iron out, unfortunately. got tangled in all the rebates and such. but yeah... i shoul;d have it by tomorrow.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Tue, 16 May 2006 at 6:19 PM

DAZ must have computer programmers come up with those complex rebate scenarios, lol.

God bless'em, but wow. Makes my tax returns look simple, lol. :o)

Glad to hear it Drac! I've got Carrara5 and I love it, as I'm sure you will too. Hang on to your copy of Bryce though. I just wrote a tutorial on making animated displacement maps for Carrara using Bryce's terrain lab which I'll post soon.

Pedrith ( ) posted Tue, 16 May 2006 at 9:05 PM

Congrats Drac.  I also bought Carrara and am starting to learn it.  Still love Bryce and will be getting version 6, and using version 5.5C

One thing about the download, at least for me, it took an ungodly amount of time.  But then my parent's computer is old and slow, and my mac currently is not internet capable.

It's always a pleasure reading your posts, in any forum.
