yeah, hogsoft's website seems to be FUBARed again. damn. i second jfbeute; CRPro II is my favourite poser utility; it does an excellent job at cleaning all those bad references (and there are many more than you might expect). ah, it's being sold in the marketplace as well; see attached. Thanks but I did not move any files. I never touch the geometry nor the textures folders. But if this app can help even in those cases, then it's really a must have.
I really did meet several more than these ones. In fact (short rant) it's a shame how often you find wrongly named folders, double files in wrong folders, references that are incorrect. ..easy money I guess...
Over to the marketplace...
Thanks
oh yeah, it is pretty much the solution to renaming and moving files so that one can create some semblance of order in one's runtime(s). i use it all the time; it's not cheap, but it's been worth rather a lot more to me than any figure at that price. once the hogsoft website comes back up (it goes down frequently, which is luckily not an indication of the quality of their products), check for updates there. completely with you on that rant. i was really astounded to find as many problems on my very first run with CRPro as i did -- it seems none of the content provider sites check the packages they accept very carefully.
What I do when this happens (ie, Poser starts churning, trying to find a referenced texture and/or geom file) is wait til it comes upwith the "cannot find" dialogue (so I know that that's what the proble was), then close Poser down via the 3-finger salute.
Then I find the file I was trying to load and text edit it. The usual cause is absolute references (ie starting from a drive letter, such as "C:", followed by the path to the providers version of Poser...
These need to be changed to a relative path (starting from "Runtime"). For ALL file references.
Hope that helps,
Cheers,
Diolma
PS. For safety, I also make a copy of the original (under a slightly altered name), before saving over the original. That way, if the new version fails, I can easily revert. What I'm not so good at is remembering to delete the copy after the new version worked:-((

I've spent a very frustrating evening. Like everyone who uses Poser will know from time to time I guess...
I decided to open each and every thing we bought for Poser, so I started with the V3 fantasy characters. Some can be deleted, some are really impressive, but then there are those that seem to have missing files (note: I did NOT mess with the texture folder at all!).
If you have experienced this, you will know what then happens: Poser proposes to start a search, you say no (and think something I won't write on a religious site like this one) but the box turns up again and again. The only way out I know is a forced closing of Poser, and starting all over.
Is there any other way out?
I now suddenly remember why I didn't open Poser in more than a year...
