This sounds like fun, let's see if I can finish this in a week. Just blocking out the shapes at the moment, not gonna worry too much about the edgeloop apart from the mouth and eyes area. I'm gonna pass on the backpack too.

Slowly making progress here. The head is about 70-90% finished depending on how much "animation friendly" improvement I wish to add later.  I figure I'll slowly finish the head over the next few days and go on a crunch time in the weekend to finish the relatively simpler body and a bit of background. My mistake for entering the challenge so late, I just hope my "One-day wonderboy" nickname from back in college still applies.

One big problem is the fur. Since I'll be rendering it with toon shading, I'm not sure how I will represent it in a 3D render. Two possibilities are texture or model the fur by hand. I'm open to suggestions if anyone got any. Moe? Teyon? anybody? HELP!!

I think you may be best not doing the fur. Then again, if you must have it, a simple texture would be easiest on you.

Thanks for the suggestion Teyon, I cancelled the fur order, texture don't work with the toon shader I'm gonna be using.

Just a small update tonite. Done the hat, antler not finished, still not happy with the ears and still no eyes yet. I think I got the colours right though, hope I can get a bit more done tomorrow night.

Some discrepancies with the model sheet but I'm not worried as long as I get the general shape right since it's more of a reference than blueprint anyway.

As usual, comments and suggestions are welcome.

Very nice I noticed you did nto do the eyes yet are they going to be seperate? All in all this is a fun competition.

Thanks Dann-O. Yeah, they will be separated for two reason, I want the white area of the eye to form a nice silhouette on a certain angle just like when it's drawn in 2D. Another reason is the pupil sometime contract to almost dot size when he's shocked. Since I haven't decided on his final pose, I thought I better make sure it's gonna be flexible enough for rudimentary rigging/animation.

Here's another small update, mainly just finishing the antler and the "connector" on the left antler. In the cartoon, he broke his antler fighting a bigger reindeer to get a medicine for a dying man who saved and treated him like a son.

Anyway, it was surprisingly hard to get the shape of the antler to look good in several angles. I'm still not totally happy with it but it's passable unless you guys got any suggestions.

Other than the antler, it's mostly just various tweaks on the shape to get the silhouette that I like. Maya crashed on me once and I lost quite a lot of the tweaks and the antler so I had to redo them and didn't get much done on the body except for a really minor arm extrusion. Still gotta work out the edgeloop, it's too messy at the moment.

Teyon, I need another suggestion. Looking at the very first image I posted, you think it's better to combine the short with the body and model the leg separately or model the body and leg as a single mesh and the short separately?

Probably the last update before the final submission. Just need to finish the hoofs, add a pair of shorts and background then set up a toon shader and I'll pose him.
