Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 18 10:25 pm)
Biggest advantage is that they don't cram up the Pose folder. Now that the "Material Collection" function works as a MAT pose, sticking them in the Pose folder is redundant. From now on, all my P6 stuff will be there. That's what it's for, after all.

Yeah.. the disadvantage is that you have to enter the material room to find them.
Personally I use the Material room a lot and I use P6 material collections as well as oldfashioned mat poses, but.. I do tend to search around for a long time when people use the Materials folder for their mats. Probably a question of old habits being broken but... at least be sure to tell people very loud if you "hide" your MAT poses there :o)

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

In fact, I convert most of the MAT Poses to either mc6 or mt5 files and put them in my Material Folders. This leaves the Pose Folder for Poses and Morphs.

The reason I am asking, is I actually have my pose folder really well organised, so everything is really easy to find.
Having this stuff in the Materials folder makes things really hard to find, because merchants always put them in silly named folders (like the pose folders, but I rename those), & also I forget stuff is in there, because it isn't with the other stuff.
Can I move stuff around like in the other folders & make my own directories?

Quote - Now "IF" they ever bring out SR3 I'd like to see the Material room in the main window, Now that would be "REALLY" useful!!!
And how do you select a material to apply a MT5 from with the pose room? ;-) > Quote - Can I move stuff around like in the other folders & make my own directories?
Yes, it's not different.

Well, I promise my folders will be named in a useful, logical manner. :)

Quote - Why are a lot of P6 MATs in the Materials folder?
at face value i find this a humorous question. why are materials in the material folder? :-P
Quote - Is there some advance to having them there rather than the Pose folder?
My personal reasons are:
Quote - EG. Why put character skins there? Is it because of all the shaders / node stuff etc? Can this info not be made into a MAT Pose & then people access the Material room if they want to?
As i understand, everything that can currenly be done in a MC6 can be done in a MAT. there is only a little text editing needed to convert a MC6 into a MAT. Personaly i dont see why you would want to unless you were trying to make a MAT for P5.

Is there a batch utility available that will do this?

All you have to do is rename your .pz2 to .mc6 and move it to your material folder and Poser will read and apply it just like a native mc6. It is a backward compatability that CL/EF built into P6.

oh, i nearly forgot.
MC6 files can be applied to props... the props dont have to be parent to a figure... you dont even need a figure in the scene.

Ooh, that's easy. Especially since I have a utility which will batch-convert file extensions.
Thanks!

Yes, that's the way I do it.
I spend a lot of time in the Material Room.
Very easy to modify a mt5 or mc6 and then hit the + sign to save a modification.
Also, some of the items in my Material Room have "no" texture maps to be applied.
It's all done with nodes.
Take a look at some of Syyd's and Eric's most excellant textures as well as Alf's.
Extensive use of Nodes and very few texture maps.

Ok, great, I will set about re-organising the materials so that I can find thinks.
