Stacey, my first impression is that it looks very nice...some interesting new features which will be fun to explore...congratulations in getting it up and running! 👍

Thank you!!!  I think you guys will love them. Just have to keep in mind that they do have a different look and feel and sometimes its just a matter of getting used to something different:)

Unicornst ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 4:02 PM

Stacey?

Where would I find a style sheet to change the colors? I found where to put it, but have no idea how to do it. grin But first impression?  Definitely going to take time to get used to. My homepage surprised me losing all my favorite images and artists. At least the images were lose until I found them in another area. lol Not bad at all. Great job on getting it going.

Thanks
Janet

Question: I actually really like the idea of putting people's avatars next to the comments when they leave comments on my images...but won't it take up a fair amount of bandwidth to load those avatars each time an image page is opened? considering all the page views on all the images that members upload daily, bandwidth is sort of a precious commodity these days...

What do you think?

That option can be turned off, so it's not such an issue.

Oh, okay...I'll have to look for that option...still, unless everyone turns them off, there will be a drain of bandwidth...but whatever...I'm just going to go with the flow now...and as long as the speed of the site has improved (as promised), I'll be happy!

Another question: what is "art charts" going to be (at the top of the galleries page)...sounds very interesting!

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:11 PM

Hi,

The Art Charts will be very cool...It is designed to tally favorite images, favorite artists and vendor credit favorites from the member's information input into the "MY FAVORITES" link (it used to be on the Member homepage, all the information was converted so any images, artists, etc you had on your Member Homepage is still available its just now found on the MY FAVORITES link) and it will give you a listing of what was the top (I believe 100) favorite images, favorite artists, etc. What is really cool is the favorite images will be links but if you scroll over them the thumbnail will pop up. As soon as the information is tallied it will be listed.

RedHawk ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:14 PM · edited Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:15 PM

Yee Freakin' Haw......

Now... How the hell do you see more than the first 6 images in your gallery?

<-insert words of wisdom here->

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:17 PM

I think you can go to MY OPTIONS link and specify how many images you want to see on one page..

Let me know if that doesn't do work.

cherokee69 ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:40 PM

New gallery, what a laughing stock that is. Hate the white background but that can be fixed with the CSS style sheet changees. Now, as if enough people weren't looking at the  "Today's Most Viewed", "Today's Most Commented", and "Today's Top Rated" images in the old gallery, now we are forced to look at them when we go to the gallery. I myslef would rather not have to look at those. Is anyone at Rosity playing with a full deck of cards? It sure doesn't seem like it.

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:48 PM

cherokee69,

We will be resolving the issue with the Most Viewed, Most Commented, etc as I don't like seeing some of the thumbnails on the Main Gallery page either it will be resolved.

And yes we weren't going to offer the CSS stylesheet changes but stick with our default colors and decided during the forum conversion to offer this option which now is offered for the galleries.

PJF ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:51 PM · edited Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:53 PM

You can make your own favourites / bookmark link to the galleries instead of using Renderosity's default. In my case, I made the link straight into the "what's new" section.

I'm not forced to look at what most people think is good. ;-)

Unicornst ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:53 PM

And the style sheet is done how? Is there one to copy and paste hanging around?

cherokee69 ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:55 PM · edited Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:56 PM

Thanks you Stacey,

I'll just sit back and see how many of these changes actually get taken care of. What white background for gallery inages really sucks. The old gallery with the black background seems to enhance the images while the white background for the new gallery doesn't. To make is easy on all the viewers, it would be nice if Rosity offered an alternate CSS style sheet to make the galleries similar to the old ones. Alot of people don't understand CSS Style sheets or what needs to be changed. As it is now, Rosity is essentially saying if you don't like the colors, your on your own to fix it.

JOEANOMALY ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:56 PM

Different, more complicated, with more ( possibly unnessasary) options doesn't always equal better. But, then again. I still think a telephone is supposed to be for talking into.

PJF ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:59 PM

There will be CSS examples soon, Unicornst; you can bet on it.

Just slapping the first 10 or so lines from my Forum CSS at the front of the Rendo default improved things greatly.

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 6:59 PM

I will see if we can get at least another option for a stylesheet posted and I'll make a sticky in here of it so members that don't understand how to do that (me being one of them, LOL) can be helped. A lot of members helped each other with the Forum stylesheets so if anyone wants to volunteer and post, I'll sticky it:)

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:00 PM

PJF, are you volunteering for me? heehee

tainted_heart ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:02 PM

Kudos to those that made the gallery changes! I'm sure you all worked hard and I, for one, am very pleased with the results. There are a few things I would like to comment on:

Deleting comments - I think this is a bad idea. Admins/Mods should be the only ones with the ability to delete comments. The old system of making a request to the Mods concerning a disagreable comment was fair and prevented people from valid, constructive comment from being removed at the whim of a member.

My Gallery/Most Recent Upload - The text accompanying the image is not being formatted as it was formatted when the image was uploaded. It's being displayed as string of text. It would be nice if it displayed in the format it was created with. For example, the verses of a poem, instead of displaying on separate lines are displayed as one continous line of text.

My Gallery - the My Gallery link takes us to a summary page that shows the Most Recent Upload, Recent Uploads, Favorite Images, and recent views. One has to cut and past the link from the bottom of the page to get to our full gallery. Clicking on My Gallery should take us to our full gallery, and clicking on Summary should take us to the summary page.

Views and Comments - are not visible under the thumbnails. One has to look at the individual image to see the number of views and comments. Many of us check our gallery page to see which images are getting the most hits to help us judge what techiniques and subjects are successful. It makes it more difficult to rate our images at a glance if we have to view each individual image to get that information.

Permissions, Options and Advisories - Great Idea! Being able to set the kind of comment/critiques wanted or disable comments/ratings all together is a fantastic addition!

Ratings - droping it down to 5 is a good idea. Not many paid attention to the old rating system anyway.

Zoom - another nice addition but there is a drawback, some images get the "jaggies" from being compressed in the default image. It's noticible in the default image and is eliminated in the zoom. The problem is some people may give a lower rating to the image for poor antialiasing or leav e a comment criticising the lack of antialiazing, if they don't look at the zoomed view.

I'd appreciate knowing if some of the concerns I pointed out will be considered and/or addressed. All in all I am surprised and pleased that the conversion went so well. The new galleries are super, and I find the white background doesn't really detract from viewing the images at all. I do appreciate that we were given the option to change it though. Things are still running a bit sluggish, hopefully that will change within the next few hours. All in all:

I give you guys two thumbs up - Job Well Done!! :thumbupboth:

It's all fun and games...
Until the flying monkeys attack!!!

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:09 PM

The deleted comments is being resolved because that shouldn't be there. another member already reported this so we are taking care of it:)

My Gallery/Most Recent Upload - not sure if the issue with the text can be changed but I will check into it for you

My Gallery - this is being fixed as well not sure why that link doesn't take you to the full gallery but it will soon

Views and Comments- the comment number should show under the thumbnail at least I am seeing them there? But the number of views is on the full image only but I will ask about this

anitalee,

Are you talking about an Avatar? If so, please click on the MY OPTIONS link here in the forums (at the very top) and you can add your avatar there.

If not, please clarfiy what you mean here and I'll try and help you.

You're very welcome cliff. It will be extremely cool once its all in place

Thanks

Unicornst ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:31 PM

First...thanks for the answers about the CSS. I'll keep an eye out for that post because all this white does get to my eyes.

Second....Nope....No comment number under the thumb. At least on my end.  And I second having the number of views back under the thumb.

I'm assuming the lack of ebots on fav artist uploads is getting fixed as well?

ANITALEE.... go to MY OPTIONS in the forums to upload your avatar. It'll show here as well as in the galleries.

chevybabe25 ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:32 PM

Hi Stacey,  I just tried to do the avatar thing..but theres nowhere to upload it.  Am I missing something?  I went to my options...but the only thing I see is how to change my info and a really weird css thingy.  Thanks,,,Laura

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:32 PM

Unicornst,

You're very welcome first off and I will check on the number of comments/views under the thumbs.

And the ebot problem will be addressed as soon as the gallery stuff calms a bit and the programmers can get to it:)

Thank you all for your patience while we work through everything

PJF ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:32 PM

Speaking of Avatars, the option to remove them from the comments under images doesn't seem to work.

Also, I've seen someone post that the nudity block wasn't working for them.

StaceyG ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:37 PM

Hi PJF,

I'm checking on the Avatar thing for ya and the nudity block if they have their nudity filter turned on does work the only difference is now you will get a "Content Advisory" thumbnail but if you click on the thumbnail you will see the nudity, LOL.. Used to be if you had your nudity filter set to not see nudity it just left out all the images that had the nudity flag set. Doing it this new way doesn't pull so many resources as the system doesn't have to go through every single image (over 420000) to leave out all the ones with nudity.

Stacey, just a heads up...I'm not seeing any comment numbers under the gallery thumbnails either...at least when I just scanned through the most recent images people have uploaded.

I know you all went to a lot of work here but I prefer the old gallery layout better. It's not that i don't like change, but all of this extra fluff distracts from the images, which are what I come here to see.

Hopalong ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:57 PM · edited Tue, 13 June 2006 at 7:58 PM

Welcome to Inner Renderer, hehe. Really cutting edge for Renderosity, only, say, five years behind, and a definite downgrade as far as looking at images is concerned, where Spartan, simple, and efficient  is better. Have you ever noticed that the amount of air travel done in the world is directly proportional to the sameness of where one can fly? If this goes on, Renderosity will soon be pacing Inner Traveler for number of views, hoho.

Incarnadine ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:05 PM · edited Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:15 PM

No comments numbers or viewing numbers under any on my machine either.
Standing by for CSS links as well.
Also, seem to have lost the date and it has been replaced with a uploaded "how long ago". Any chance of getting it back to a simple date?

OT, I really like what you have done with the site mail system!

Pass no temptation lightly by, for one never knows when it may pass again!

bbratche ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:11 PM

First it seems eveybody is always afraid of saying something negative on Renderosity anymore... the being banded or censored fear I guess.  Oh well here goes... I have found the new changes as of late irritating and some makes viewing and communicating with friends here difficult at best!  Maybe I'm just an old timer and I don't like change... but that is far from the truth!  I embrace good change! The opening of a picture in a new window that also closed with a click rocked... and now it's gone. The going from one page to the next is difficult, you end up at the end if you miss the wrong tiny page click, or you have to click a number instead or the next, last, first or previous button which worked so well:(  Also when you use to click on the members name to reply to a comment it took you to IM which was finally getting stright again... now you have to go to their profile to reply! The new report TOS violation is just an inventation for members to play censor which is a joke....

I guess I ranted on long enough... I just really miss the Renderosity I loved so dear, the things that set renderosity appart from other sites!  I know things have to change... but they just seem to be going in the wrong direction as of late. I do appreciate all the hard work the staff and moderators do... but since bondware took over it hasn't been the same.

I know if I don't like it... leave!  Rant over!

Unicornst ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:13 PM

Oh...and sorry about the seeming "shouting".  I misjudged on the text size.

Hi Dinhi

You click on the MY OPTIONS link in the forums and upload/change your avatar there for now. This will carry your avatar through the galleries and forums.

bbratche - Its okay to express your opinions here. We understand that not everyone is going to be happy with changes made, that is to be expected in a site with this many members. Everyone has their different views and opinions on things and that is fine:)

Unicornst, yes my fingers are tired:( waaahh..heehee. And no problem I am flying around here so fast I didn't even notice your text....

MistDragon,

Click on the "galleries" link in the header here and you will see a bunch of links for different things, there is one there that says "upload"

No worries bbratche, hopefully things will just keep improving with time:)

Hopalong ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:42 PM

Just checked it out a little more. Perhaps should have waited a moment before criticizing. It's pretty ugly and inefficient, it's true,  but it also has the saving grace of being  very SLOW, hehe. Great job guys! Almost as good as the print magazine fiasco!

Dinhi ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:46 PM

Thanks, I think I may have inadvertantly figured this out befor your reply.  Just a suggestion, perhaps on the main homepage, a few FAQ guide to the new site and navigation.  This may help all of us get a feel for the hard work you have done, and make the transition easier for others.

I found a glitch in the upload area, this may just be for me but you never know.  I utilized the new preview area, to see if I needed to make any changes.  When I saved from there, I was tossed to the main gallery site.  I checked my personal gallery and the image did not post, so I went in and rather than inspect first, I just uploaded.

Hope this helps!  New things have bugs and it's up to us to beta test! (=
