THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: OT I like changes but this is ridiculous! First the they mess up the forums now

Vile ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:44 PM · edited Thu, 08 August 2024 at 2:21 AM

When will the madness end LOL!

What I posted the comments on the new gallery which they probably will not post! This is yet another sad day at R'osity...

I have to agree about the "marketplace" visage this is slowly becoming a sales gimmick and less of a community! The images load slow and layout is terrible! The Main gallery is worse I liked being able to just click NEXT go on to the next batch of images now I have to click more for less!

So far I am not impressed of course I wasn't with the "NEW" forums either but nothing changed there...

I guess being a member here since 1999 means nothing, I mean I am for change I embrace it but only when it is needed and enhances your experience!

Vile ( ) posted Tue, 13 June 2006 at 8:52 PM

I am not trying to start trouble as they did post my message about the "NEW" gallery enhancements. As I see it there are many that think the changes are lame.  I think there is some great potential here. But loading all the dang avatars and then how small the images are is just wrong. I think powers that be need to look around at some premire "Artist" website layouts and see what works and throw out the junk that does not.

As usually just MHO. As it takes a lot to wake me from my slumber...

Several years of code converted in just a few weeks? sounds like someone had a bet ... and the persue-ee lacked the Bandit's ability to do stuff fast ! .. but it's coming along however slowly. At least that's how I sees it.

When in the Galleries, you will have another "my options" link, check that out as it has options to;

-Have up to 36 thumbs per page.

-Turn off other users avatars.

-When browsing, open images in a new window (or not)

Well, my gripes,

  1. why did I have to click on browse to get to a page that looks the same but has the numbered sheets of images on there.

2)Having just got used to the handy automatically open in new window - then close window by clicking on the image it's been taken away, I have to right click to open then clicking the new image opens another 'zoomed' version.

  1. When I view an image the size is now constrained - I can go with that some people post huge images here, but it should constrain to a larger size - 800x600 or 1024x768. (I'm guessing the resize may be dynamic to my screen res (can check that at home later) BUT I'd rather have a bottom scroll bar and the slighty larger image!

  2. this is slow!

I quite like the other layout changes, although I want to see more comments per page or an option to have all comments on apage rather then having to reload

  1. So there can be a "front page" to the main galleries, I guess, lol. I just go with what I have always had; links in my favorites to my most areas at Renderosity, for me its quicker.

  2. You can change that in the gallery section "my options".

  3. All to fall in line with the same thing that happened in the forums, Admins wanted to have a consistent look/size to the entire site. I'll have to try a different screen size myself, see if the initial gallery image changes size...

  4. Speeding along for me, BUT...(fyi) we did have some forum server problems earlier today that were not Gallery PHP related, and I'm sure at around this time (night), work is being done on the Gallery server which yup, depending on what they are doing, can slow it down.

And while we have Kirk's attention - just how many users did the forum lose? (Accepting that I'm not bothering anywhere near as much as I used too - by choice because I have to post through IE6)

Maybe that was the plan. If bondware screw up the php, maybe we'd all leave......

only thing that set me back was the counts on most of my pics have reset to 0..so now I don't know what sucks anymore..;)

also the postings can't 'handle' anything more than a year ago..you get 'posted...ago'...or something like that..;) Was hoping to see 'posted 1,580 days ago'..which is approximately how long ago the first in my gallery would be done..;)

It's ironic that 'rosity had it's own special 'look and feel', now looks even more like everyone else..Rendervisions, Daz, etc..go figure..;)

"just how many users did the forum lose?"

Most of us don't like change, even if we think we don't care one way or another, lol. Familiar surroundings, even if they aren't to each of our own personal tastes, eventually becomes comfortable.

I don't believe we lost that many. Not many at all turned their noses up at the new PHP and permanently stayed away, lol.

I see way more difference in activity in this Forum, due to so many Brycers now feeling out the Carrara & Hexagon Forums.

Besides, summer months are always slower.

I think I can get used to almost any change in Renderosity's site, as long as I can keep tweaking my colors. Gotta have a dark background. Gotta, gotta.

Colors? LOL

Ok so I think there really needs to be change! Change for the better includes a way to mark the thread I have read not all of the ones in one day. How hard is that? Its not, it was there before, why remove features that made things easier to navigate. Why sacrifice usability for pretty.

If you are going to change the look and feel fine include the things that made the operation a success. It is good thing Cars and Planes are not designed like this “Enhanced” web site. Otherwise they might throw out the wings for more capacity or the wheels for faster steering, none of which makes sense…not unlike the changes we see here!

What is the Dr's oath? Do no harm, or that old adage if its not broke don’t fix it? I really think that code monkeys should be given typewriters at least then they wouldn’t screw up nice sites and software and who knows maybe rewrite the works of Shakespeare while they are at it!

Positive change - even good change - can be EXTREMELY stressful...

For instance - I can remember the very first time that I had sex.

It was a significant transitional point in my life - a major milestone. I remember how nervous I was - how self conscious and awkward the whole experience was for me.

I kept wondering to myself "would I be good enough? Will I mess the whole thing up? Am I doing this right?...

I was really nuerotic about the whole thing, paranoid actually - It seemed like the entire measure of my manhood and virility would be summed up and judged by this one groundbreaking red letter event. I really wanted to "perform" to my absolute best capability - but I still felt deep down inside that I was simply trying too hard - and so, the experience really wasn't what I hyped it all up to be in my mind.

I felt a great deal of un-necessary pressure to measure up to societie's standards of how I should act, and feel, and present myself intimately - I felt like I was in some kind of competition against every other male in history to "qaulify" as being sexually acceptable under impossibly high standards. I worried needlessly about things like performance and technique, and presentation. I was really in an over analytical tail spin - and I felt depreciated and under appreciated.

WHEW!!! talk about pressure - MAAANNNN - just think what it will be like someday - when I do it with an actual partner!...

Content Advisory! This message contains profanity

Quote - 3) All to fall in line with the same thing that happened in the forums, Admins wanted to have a consistent look/size to the entire site. I'll have to try a different screen size myself, see if the initial gallery image changes size...

A lot of people, including myself, are aggravated by the decision to limit the image size on the gallery presentation page to 700 pixels. In my usual manner, I tried to find a solution before going into rant mode. I found a solution (CSS change) that would have given the user the ability to choose to see the image full size on the presentation page. Then, just before I was about to post the code snippet, the admin decided to 'hard code' the presentation page image to 700 pixels (in order to fix an image degradation problem they were too naive to predict).

So now I'm in f*cking rant mode.

Yeah they mucked it up alright.

:m_lecture:I am not in the least impressed 👎by this new format.  The "EZ" format was much more user friendly than this php format they have implemented. 😠  They could make this php format act like the old ez format. :b_unbelievable:

I have never posted much here and not at all since they fired up this php stuff.  I am one of those that will be leaving here to find a home that is much more concerned about their userbase.

This is truely a sad:m_sadblink: time for Renderosity:unsure:.... the beginning of the end.

More people than you might think have discontinued frequenting here I believe.

Bye.... see ya on another forum.....:m_wave:

Well for me, images are not showing up in Safari at all - not here or in the galleries. While it's nice to see how fast the Forum pages load without graphucs, I would like to see ICM's greebles!

Well - all I know - is that Rendo's been actin mighty itchy since they decided to try to fix what ain't broke.

The idea isn't to shove change down people's gullets by springing it on them all of a sudden - without at least some CLEAR fore warning, or a bit of pre-revamp hype for a few months.

I wasn't aware of any changes being pre-scheduled - I just clicked on the sight - saw a maintenance notice - then - WHAMMO!!! The pages suddenly take twice as long to reload as they did before.

Am I going to leave Rendo? - The answer is yes - because humans are mortal - and after a while we do die, and relatives we didn't know we had show up to hear the will...

 - But am I gonna leave in the immediate foreseeable future - NO! I AM NOT!

I like Renderosity - and I also like squishing cream cheese between my toes while caressing my man boobies - but that's another story...
