Subject: New not good

I was very pleased with the old new way of viewing; click on a thumbnail and you get the full size image - click on it again and you return to the gallery. Now, click on a thumbnail and you get a bigger thumbnail, click again and then you get the full size. Now, just try to get back to the gallery easily! Not pleased at all.

Worse yet, say you want to get back to the Fractal Gallery from the Fractal Forum. Click on the Gallery box? Nope.

There is probably more 'New', but I've had enough.

I'm afraid most people stay at the 'second thumbnail', which generally is very crumply and disappointing.  InnerTraveler has the same system but there also this 'second thumbnail' is of a far better quality.  Only one time, with a Raimuraita image (difficult to render) I asked there to zoom in for a better quality.

Further I see that the speed has been lowered dramatically.  When it stays as it is now, I cannot give comments any longer.  That takes too much time, time I can use better to improve my technique of making fractal images and to have fun with it.

For me, Renderosity must be fun and no vexation.  But maybe I've to be patient and must give this new look the benefit of the doubt.

I have to agree with you two. Not very please by the recent changes :/ I'm not usually a conservative person, but old version was more friendly than what we have now. We have to spend more time to view an image correctly and comment it. I hope the system will be improved soon :)

PS : Old version notified me when a comment was done on my image. That was very useful. Is there a way to get this email notification back in the new system ?

Not totally happy with the changes either. I have to open each image in a new page in order to keep the original gallery page. I liked the previous method of clicking the image and automatically it comes up in a new page. Click it again and that new page goes away.

The avatars are fun to see, but it seems that the loading of pages is slower. With dialup this is a pain!!! I have to have a free day here at home in order to spend several hours so I can comment on the images I like. Otherwise, I can't take the time to make comments.

Definately wasn't worth the wait but maybe they will rise above their ineptitude this time.

It is very frustrating, I have so little time to spend on here as it is, and the new navigation is not working for me. Viewing the new gallery format on dial-up is pure agony. I can only hope they get the 'undocumented features' worked out of the system soon and make it more user friendly.

I'm not all that happy about the change. I say if it isn't broke don't fix it! I can't get email notafications about my favorites that have uplaod. Why? Maybe in time  wie will get use to the new way. Change isn't always that good.

Good day!

Re: * I have to open each image in a new page in order to keep the original gallery page*

go to options i.e. my options

and enable the square in front of "When browsing, open images in a new window" then your problem is over, you still can have the original gallery window...

only for closing the new one you need to hit either the X button OR CTRL W

BUT

if you are lucky to have a programmable mouse, you can put the macro of closing the window under one of the mouse buttons

i have a Wacom mouse with a scroll button, and can click it also, and under the click i have put the closing window option

I bet there are some children deseases with this new gallery layout, and some things need some more improvement, which will take time. I am sure that in the end we all will be satisfied with this new developments.

Furthermore i am not too happy with the fact that my website isn't to be displayed in the gallery, just a few days after it was acknowledged, but i suppose they will find a solution for that also.

Good day

A wise man said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"  I think that rule should have been applied here.

I now call this site, GRRRRRRR'Osity!!!

While I understand that upgrading such an enormous site is a challenge... maybe there should have been a little more thought given to how this transition would take place... BEFORE it was implemented.

Broken links everywhere... not a great look.

Just deleted an image from my gallery and it's totally fucked the statistics. Really worth having.

I don't like the new rosity much (although I must admit I wasn't much of a fan of the old version either).

Cons

  • The site is still slow (and unreliable).  I think this has been beaten to death already.
  • I have a hard time navigating the site.  There are way to many links on each page.  Any intro web design course will tell you not to have too links on a sidebar.  It makes it harder to navigate the site.
  • Things should be catagorized.  I have "My Account", "My Options" and a "My Profile" page.  These should all be grouped together in a "settings" so everything can be easily found.  I also have a "community homepage" and a "homepage"?!
  • It would be really nice to have a human friendly url that I can share with friends and family!  Currently my gallery address is a long URL with just a gallery ID number.  Sure, someone can copy and paste it into their browser, but my mother doesn't know that.  I tag my images with my deviantArt address because it is simple and easy to remember.
  • The galleries have a very small next page link.  Again, an intro web design class will tell you all about making common links such as a next page link bigger than less common links (such as "7" for page 7).
  • I don't want to get emails through Rosity.  Messages are fine, but leave my email alone!  Spammers can very easily use this to collect email addresses to send spam!
  • A small thumbnail links to a larger thumbnail!!  It is just an annoying way of Rosity to save bandwidth.  An option to disable this 'feature' would be great!
  • The large thumbnail uses javascript to open a new window.  I have two problems with this: 1) The new window is smaller than my screen so I either have to scroll to see the whole image or resize the window every time.  Very annoying.  2) I can't middle click on the large thumbnail to open the image in a new tab in Firefox.  Grrr.
  • Emoticons or smiley faces may make everyone's post look like they were writeen by a 13 year old, but they are very good at helping convey humour, sarcasm and other emotions that are not easily expressed in writing.
  • "Renderosity Art Community" should be "Renderosity Online Art Store".  I know they have to make money somehow, but the "MarketPlace" is being shoved in the forefront.
  • There are many links that no longer work and thumbnails that don't show images.  (Like the weekly window).
  • Can't reply to comments on a gallery item.  Being able to reply to each other's comments (like a threaded conversation) enables two way discussion rather than the current one way communication.

Pros

  • Better statistics!  Yay!
  • Automatically generates my thumbnails!
  • 200x200 thumbnails are bigger than most sites.

Overall, Rosity is better than what 1998 had to offer, but for 2006, it is subpar.  Great fractal community though :o)

Yo, just to put my 2 cents worth, you can change it so that images open in a new window under "My gallery Options"
