Subject: virtualfashion basic? What about advanced?

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Thu, 22 June 2006 at 2:48 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 5:24 AM

I was so ready to buy VF just now.  But noticed BASIC in the title.  Maybe I should wait until ADVANCED comes out?  It'll probably cost around $199-249 though and include more stuff.  I wish e-frontier gave more time for the intro price of BASIC until I knew for sure whether to buy it or wait for ADVANCED if there is one coming.

You can always check it out at the homepage for the software developers.

There is a Professional version for 249$. I think i will pass, this is a little bit too expensive for me at the moment and i don´t use the Poser 6 figures with the exception of Miki.

If by my life or death I can protect you, I will!

I think I'd get a fair amount of use out of it since I use Jessi, and TY2 already. I've tried the demo from the virtual fashion site, but since it's (however much) different from that which is being sold through CP I'm still undecided about it. I not terribly happy with the fact that it seems to be a Fullscreen DirectX-like application that can't be windowed, minimized, alt-tabbed, etc. Not great for one's workflow. Anyone know differently ? I don't have Miki, but that may change since I might decide to spend my CP rewards coupon on her which would be kind of like getting her for free. 🆒

It would also seem that the program's license only allows usage for a period of no more than 1 Year (potentially enforced by the "activation code" system used). Does anyone know differently ?

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Thu, 22 June 2006 at 9:04 AM

I had no trouble ALT Tabbing the demo but that license agreement period for 1 year has turned me off for now until I hear something otherwise about the service being cut off at the end of  the year or whenever it strikes the software company's fancy to close ther doors and stop giving service which will shut down the program, I'm calling it a ripoff.

from the virtual fashion web site store.......

All prices are in Euro Currency and are for a 1 year license which includes all product updates, upgrades and access to the online community. Please, read the Product License. For a physical CD shipping & handling costs will apply as indicated in our online store.

Teyon ( ) posted Thu, 22 June 2006 at 2:33 PM

The license does not expire. You are allowed free updates for up to one year then you have to pay a little to get an update after that time expires. The program itself though will keep running.

Q: I heard on the forums that VF license is only good for a year. Is this true?

A: No. The software license for Virtual Fashion Basic for Poser is a perpetual license to use this software. The software will not time out, and it will continue to be supported as long as it is offered for sale. Software updates (such as bug fixes, etc.) are available free for one year after your original date of purchase. Additional development, new functionality offered and updates beyond one year will be available in the form of software upgrades.

On the Virtual Fashion website is a comparisonsheet  between VF-basic and VF-pro. As far as I can see VF-pro gives some extra's if you have a big fashion-design agency and you have to manage between several employees. and it has some more materials. But I can't see if it has poser-support, which has the version one can acquire on the E-frontier website. To me VF-pro isn't an option, for it won't give any extra's which I can use in poser.

laslov ( ) posted Fri, 23 June 2006 at 6:01 PM

VFBasic doesn't have cloth material importing.  I've decided to wait until 2.0 comes out for Poser 7 and then spin the dial again.

Of course once you imported a garment from VF into Poser, you can change materials/colors/patterns in Poser

ShawnDriscoll ( ) posted Sat, 24 June 2006 at 5:07 PM

That's an idea.  Ok, you sold me.  I'm ordering Virtual Fashion Basic for Poser right now.  Thanks.

laslov Is the activation code scheme on VFBasic for Poser the same as the full version requiring the computer to be net connected?

The activation for VF is a two-step process: first you get a serial number. This serial number is entered at the VF site and issues an activation code. This is the code that activates your software. See FAQ:

"Product Activation Required - Once you complete your purchase go to: http://www.virtual-fashion.com/html/en/register.php. Enter your serial number and Security Code as displayed along with your valid email address (confirmation will be sent to you upon completion). You will then be directed to a page where you are given an activation code and you select a username and password. Once VF has downloaded and been installed, launch VF, go to the VF Resource Manager and enter your username, password and activation code (all of which are case-sensitive). Note: an Internet connection is required to validate the activation code. If you do not enter the activation code within 10 hours of use, the program will cease to function, so we recommend you do it immediately."

laslov  I wanted to be sure.  It sounded similar to something Maxon does but now I can see it's different.
Thanks you for the help.

This thread is now returned to it's previous direction. 😄 Zoooomm...
