What's your OS?? TrueType fonts should work for PCs, Mac may use a different type (like "OpenFace").
PS shouldn't have any problems seeing fonts that are installed into your font folder. PS needs to be closed when installing (dropping them into your font folder) the fonts because PS loads the FONT TABLE on launch and any fonts added after the table loads won't apperear until you restart the app.
reciecup.....it's always a good suggestion to install all fonts using the Windows routine, ie: going to Control Panel>Fonts>File>Install New Font...that way it's properly there and registered in your registry as I understand it. That way it's available across your whole computer to all apps.....

As for where to find fonts, online: some of my favorite freeware sites are: http://www.larabiefonts.com http://www.acidfonts.com/ http://www.1001freefonts.com/ http://www.dafont.com/ And for more listings, check: http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Fonts/
As it seems you run a Mac, there are likely less fonts for free available to you than a pc user would have....a qwiksearch on twingine.com revealed a lot of PS fonts[that's post script fonts ] but all for sale and none free...sigh...maybe some mac users can help out some.
The net abounds with free TrueType fonts tho...I personally have over 1000, tho not all are installed at once thru the magic of The Font Thing, a free pc font management tool I found online years ago...look that up if you run a pc by the way.....
