A Very Tired TMD with Vin Diesel Press Release: On June 5th of this year, FUNGLODE initiated the Global Multimedia Institute with an Introduction to audio-visual production: Film and Television. The concept of the program began with a conversation between President Fernandez and the actor Vin Diesel. Their vision is to enhance the film industry in the Dominican Republic by preparing Dominican students for film and television employment, to attract international production and to eventually build a self sustaining studio. To initiate these ideas, Mr. Diesels father, Irving Vincent, who heads a Multimedia Lab in the Opportunity Programs at New York University, was asked to replicate a class that he gives to select students in preparation for their entrance into NYUs Tisch School of the Arts. George Argento, Technical Director and five NYU students were recruited to assist Mr. Vincent in the intensive class for Dominican students. Eighteen Dominican students responded to postings in local newspapers and schools. Sixteen survived. Over a strenuous four-week period that will end with a final screening of student works on June 30th, they experienced all aspects of writing, pre-production, production and post-production. The first week they made individual commercials and public service announcements. The second week saw individual short narratives. The third week they were hands on at Cannel 13 functioning in every facet of TV production both in front of and behind the camera, writing and producing their own shows. In the fourth and final week, the students will return to the narrative form, creating longer short narratives. The June30th screening will also include an award ceremony honoring the students with a certificate from FUNDLODE, One Race Films (Vin Diesels production company), and NYUs Opportunity Programs. The República Dominicana, is a poor country but quite ahead of the raveges of Haiti, next door. These people need all they can get to advance in some way and formulate life.  Sure, some are ahead of others and any efforts to bring education and benefit are wonderful.

I thank you for this work.  I do hope it is successful and some may be brought back home to the people of the DR.
