I have finally made a half-decent streetlight, and have uploaded it to the Vue Free Stuff/Objects section here. This time it's in .VOB format (3.1) *as well as* .3DS format, so Vue 2-ers can use it too, in a 162 KB .ZIP file. I'm actually kinda hoping one of you Vue experts will d/l it and be able to get a better galss material on the bulb and the glass panes than I've been able to do; seems Vue wants to give me a hard time about casting light the way *I* think it ought to. ;) Enjoy!

PS: "galss"= "glass". Stupid typing fingers!

It looks great Mike! And oh hey, what a nice-looking fence you've got there...reminds me of a porch fence back home... grin Last time I did some lamps like these, I made the glass frosted, which helped diffuse the light. Looked real good; they were the globe lamps from Baument. Not sure if frosting the glass on this style would look suitable, but heck, it's worth a try. Thanks for the gift! :)

thank you Mike! They are just great street lamps! I kinda like the look of the glass.. but maybe I should not be so vain around you guys and put my glasses on.. hehehe Diana (by the way, just got Anton's songbirdies for the neato sale price! So excited!! Jumping up and down on my chair...clunk)

bloodsong ( ) posted Fri, 13 April 2001 at 7:09 PM

heyas; i've used the songbird. um, but not in vue. :) um, oh, and nice lamp, mike. (an i know what a mod dull is, but whats a mod bull??)

Petunia ( ) posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 12:10 AM

Varian just knows that I vamped his mod bull from the freebies. I think of him striped in mauve and tangerine. (the bull, not Varian... however... come over here V... hehehe) I have some cute little birds that spend the summer up under my house eves and when the babies get flying lessons, they sometimes end up staying over in a nice warm bucket on the porch because of high winds. (They knock themselves silly on my sliding glass door and so I put them in there so they aren't harmed til the wind calms down.) Now I have to look up the little critters and make a texture map for them.

Oh my, Bloodsong! Did you miss the MOD Mike Bull Challenge? LOL! After checking out that thread, don't miss the MOD Bull Gallery! And don't forget to decorate a bull for Mike! (It shows him how much we appreciate him!) ;) Diana, I would come over to check out your little birds -- they sound terrific! -- but I'll wait until after you put that tangerine and mauve paint away! LOL! :D

bloodsong ( ) posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 12:39 PM

heyas; no, i remember that thread. but i seemed to have missed the part where mike became a bull....???

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 14 April 2001 at 12:55 PM

I can't figure it out either. Ask Varian--- that's his puppy, LOL

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 15 April 2001 at 12:18 AM

Well Mike became a bull because there was a big discussion about how he couldn't be a cow! So we made him a bull. :) Mike himself started it all by referring to himself as a "mod" (short for "moderator" and then wondered if he might be a "MOD cow" (a play on "mad cow"). Guess I need to go back and find that thread, too, eh? :)

Played around with the glass & bulbmaterial , tried both a Mike's bulb plus a hollow bulb to see if the was any difference in how they showed. The lanternglass is how the streetlight accross the road shows trough my binoculars :). Keep in mind that glass is probably over 50 y/old and it's usually kinda damp around here.

Hein, That looks pretty good there, indeed! Thanks for downloading it and giving it a whirl. :) What kind of glass texture did you use? Cheers, Mike

Varian ( ) posted Tue, 17 April 2001 at 9:17 PM

Nice work, Hein. It does look misty, as if the air is damp! :)

Wow, cool hein! Y'know, it never occurred to me to attach a link to a zip file to a message here. That's a great idea.... And thanks--- will have a look. :)
