Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 05 2:05 am)
Place PP2 and PNG files in your prop library.
Place the JPG in the runtimetexture directory.
Load into the Poser scene. Select the billboard. Use the Poser menu ObjectPoint at and select the camera that you are using to view the scene. The billboard will now always point at that camera.
Note that it experiences gimbal lock when the camera approaches 180 degrees.
The key feature in making this work was to reposition the end point of the plane such that a line drawn from it back to the center is normal to the plane.

Billboarding is a technique by which you can use a 2D object to replace a 3D model.
Consider a scene in which you wish to include several trees. The polygon count will very quickly become unmanageably high. The solution is to load a 2D plane onto which a texture and transparency map have been loaded. Provided that the plane always faces the viewing camera it will always look like a fully detailed tree.
Why does the billboard roll to the side when the camera rotates? I've been trying to solve this problem on my own; I can make the plane face the camera, but I can't keep it from revolving (not rotating which it needs to do to face forward).
Also, in the preview it looks like a glowing ball for some reason.

Is it possible to do this?
I've put images onto flat planes and stuff but it still has the outline showing so I tried transparency but then my image went as well.
Anybody know how to do this?
I can do it in Vue easy enough but so far not in poser!
Sorry if it's a dumb question with a simple answer but sometimes you just get what I call "Brain Blocks" [lol].
Injustice will be avenged.
