Ugh, sorry I didn't see this post before I posted mine :( Before I logged out I marked all forums read and when I came back there were only 2 threads showing unread, and this wasn't one of them.
A moderator can delete the thread I created :)

Quote - cool!!! thanks for that!!! the last service release was a huge fix!!!!!!! so hopefully this one is a good one!!!!! but i haven't really had any issues with poser since the last one!!!!!!
Haven't had any problem either. Hope this one doesn't create problems.
Hate to have to do a re-install to get back to SR2.
I haven't experienced any of the problems listed as fixes in this release. I use a wacom tablet and haven't any troubles either. I don't use the cloth room at all as a matter of fact if the cloth room and face room where ripped out of P6 that would suit me just fine.
I too hope that this SR3 release does not cause troubles down the line and as far as P7? I haven't heard a thing myself.
Cheers,
Micheál

I'd scream bloody murder if they got rid of the cloth room.
I hardly ever use conforming clothes anymore. Dynamic
clothes just look and move so much more naturally.

Quote - Sigh,Background pictures still doesn't auto fit to rendersize. They do fit to preview and Poser4, but not when rendering in Firefly mode.I wonder when this will be fixed.
After setting up your scene, delete the BG pic, save and exit Poser. Reopen and go directly to Render Dimensions. Set the dimensions, THEN load the fullsize BG. Render. It works.

Conclusion: I ended up DLing the update at work (where thanks be, my browser already cached the serial number from the last time I got something off the site). Seriously, if a download chokes, it chokes, but resuming it should be possible. Also, if it's a patch rather than the full application, what's the point of putting it behind a serial authentication? Offhand I can't think of any other apps (big company or small) which require this, unless TPTB at e frontier are trying to track the number of licensed P6 users who still use the application.
There are quite a number of other companies that do require logons for updates.. Eon, Newtek, Autodesk.. basically most major 3d application companies.
As long as they save a cookie for their download page, I have no issues at all. The point is to slow the pirates down.
Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Agreed. Though I still use conforming clothing too, but much prefer dynamic

"Yet out of the blue...come Siggraph they'll immediately start selling Poser 7 at CP (and the patching process will begin anew). "
Siggraph? Now it makes sense. I bet that might have had something to do with the patch release weather or not they have a P7 ready to show. It would be good for them to have all the different rooms in P6 stable by the time of Siggraph. Bill Gates has been embarased a few times and I imagine the guys at e-frontiers would like if at all possible to avoid that.

"*I didn't expect an sr3. perhaps it means they are still seeking a
buyer, as they wouldn't waste time on sr3 while they were working on P7."
buyer for what? Not Poser..they just bought Eovia/Amapi

Whaty does Bill Gates have to do with Poser?

They both make software.
Bill has had his companies(MS) software goof up at showings in front of an audiance once or twice. I imagine with Siggraph coming up e-f would love P6 to be rock solid and not be in the predicament Bill was in.
By the way I'd love to know if anyone has noticed any changes in the cloth room. I'm kind of dieing to know what others have to report. :D

Okay I am assuming, which is something I really hate to do, that most of you that are posting to this thread have installed SR3 and it's running. So what changes have you noticed if any?

You me and everyone who just invested in Virtual Fashion would be screaming! I like Dynamic Hair & Clothes! The only people who hate them seem to be people just too afraid to learn how to use them. And teh face room is fantastic for James and Miki!!! Still holding my breath for Koji's Support!
After installing the serial update I have a strange behaviour in the material-room: When saving a material-collection to the library there is no thumbnail anymore while there still appears one when saving a single material. Anyone else whith an error like that?!
I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!
And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

I've used the rooms but for what I do I really don't get much use out of them. My goodness such a wee firestorm. I know more people have installed SR3 so since there are really no one posting any results but a few I guess it's not that big an update to be effective. Many on the other forums I visit have said they see no change or have not experienced the problems addressed in the update. Oh well hopfully we shall hear more. IF something don't work in the poser universe it's like the shot heard around the world. If us poser folks were as vocal in politics as we are when it comes to our 3D software when it bites then we'd have a new form of government LOL!!! ah...right.

I like this, really! :sneaky: Maybe it's a sign that people at least have some hope in the 3D-industries but, well, you know...
It will take some time before people have tried out everything. What I found now is that the thing I liked the most in the fixes has not been fixed for me, the tablet support (or I'm doing something wrong...). I was so happy that the issue that the camera spins around like being handled by the tasmanian devil when I touched the control with the pen has been fixed. Now, I found that it stills spins and behaves insane ( but maybe a bit faster now  just kidding)

To me, the Cloth and Hair Rooms are good attempts, but too much fiddling and too slow. They keep trying to cram features into an archaic, usually unstable application that are too much. You want to see Cloth and Hair at work, try Cinema 4D's Clothilde and Hair module. After using these, Poser's aren't worth even clicking on the tab. Sorry, I've been spoiled by superior design and speed.

I never before participated in one of those "what's best" threads and I still won't because I acknowledge in the point that there are many tools that are much more stable and fast.
The major question for me is what I want to do and end up with. And as I'm all into skin and a special kind of light C4D and others don't fullfill my needs, everything I tried gave me skin that was not real enough for my taste. But when it comes to big scenes with a lot of envorinment and such there are far better apps than Poser. The only thing that makes me hesitate: I don't use much interior, landscapes and such, most of the time I prefer the puristic style.

oops! I keep forgetting that the only two buyers for poser are no longer in the market, hence e-frontier won't be able to sell it. that's a break with tradition, which normally calls for each new version to be put out by a new company. it may bode well for poser users, as the same coders who are familiar with P6 problems (if any) will be well-equipped to write the next version.
I've installed SR3, and to me it seems like it's rendering slightly faster... I had been working on for days on THIS PIC, rendering and rendering it again (since it contains a mirror) and well, I installed SR3 as soon as I'd got it downloaded, and well.. it seemed like it was faster. Just a smidgeon, but at least I havne't discovered any weird behaviour yet.
I gotta try that material collection thing though... That better work, I'm using it a lot...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
Slightly faster? Moe stable? Here too - well, at least "maybe", every image is different and you can often not tell exactly why you get errors! I've started to render a full figure with every single face_off-shader I have, 2000x1200, 300 dpi before I went to bed and ws surprised that it was finished without errors or lockups when I got up again to get me some milk - one hour later! One render makes no regularity at all but as I'm used to render everything in areas it makes a very nice exception :wink"

The FireFly Render Engine section of the pop up notes on the download page talks about optimized data structures for more efficient memory use in high polygon count scenes (Mac OS X only)
I'm wondering if this mean Mac users had troubles PC users didn't or did a universal problem got fixed only in the Mac version?
Yup I'm still waiting for more feed back in general.

Well, the first thing I noticed after installing SR3 was that it weirded out the eye textures,
turned the eyewhites yellow and blocky. Couldn't fix it and it looked so strange
I finally decided to uninstall Poser and then reinstalled it and installed SR3 on
a fresh copy without even opening it first. Luckily it fixed the problem and now
the eyes render correctly.
