Subject: Ok I need help making a movement (& a wake) in water. Love to hear the ideas!

I am thinking of using Metaballs as I already have a terrain for the waves but I am at a loss as to how to do this. I woud appreciate an feedback.

What about a terrian object, using a hieghtfield(grayscale)image ? Photoshop or Gimp or PSP should be useful. Just a thought.

You could try making a wake terrain, then altering it through keyframes to produce a rippling effect? Then link the terrain to the back end of whatever is causing the wake and see how that looks.

It may be easier to make the terrain height map using Gimp or something - I expect you'll get better control over the ripples that way.  You'll probably need one for each side of the wake too.

Not that i've tried any of that : )

Has anyone actually done this and has some examples? I am just not sure how to approach this. I think it was ICM or Rochr was playing with metaballs and liquids...

Ornlu was a metaball maestro; a real "mad scientist" with his experiments. I used terrains for both my water and  the boat wake in my last gallery post(it's been a while), and used PS only to tone-down the horizon line.

Generally, I think a mix of terrains and meta's works best, using only meta's you'll run out of resource quick, Ornlu's experiments often involved high power machines and long render times......

Are you animating a stream, lake, or ocean?

It is a lake scene and somthing in the water pushing forward like a boat. And I am about to give up cause what I am doing doesn't look right. Maybe I will post a preview dunno.

I'd get ahold of Frogdot. His use of waves/water is the best in Bryce imo. Unless this is for animation.. not sure he can help with that.

Hi Vile!

If you would like to take a look I have a submarine pic with a wake in my gallery.

As I remember it, this used the infinite water plane with another terrain for the wake doubled.

The bottom wake terrain was water and the top for the foam was raised just slightly and given a sea mist/sea foam texture then I played with the transparency to let the water show through more.

The top foam layer was a grayscale made in photoshop with a combination of noise/bubbles then taken into Bryce for the terrain.

Hmmmm, if it was a running stream or river, I have a animation tut that I wrote for Bryce. I'm going to submit it to DAZ for a voucher.

Thank you guys I am working on a terrain so far but still not as happy with it. I just wish someone would hold my hand and do it for me LOL.
