Subject: Carrara5 Pro /Transposer problems

Toomuchtime ( ) posted Mon, 24 July 2006 at 7:20 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 6:09 PM

I purchased Carrara5 Pro yesterday from Daz. (Download version.) When I attempt to open a PZ3 file uising Transposer and following their instructions, including opening the Poser Executable file, I get an error message that says  "An unknown error occured while executing open". Has anyone else had this problem? I'm concerned that my file might have been corrupted during download although there was no problem during that period.  Any ideas? Thanks for any and all help,

Have you tried reinstalling the Application?  I would try that first.  Normally if it is a corrupted file, you will not be able to successfully install it at all.  Make sure all of your drivers are up to date as well.  Could you list your system specs, CPU, RAM, etc...

Toomuchtime ( ) posted Sun, 30 July 2006 at 2:38 AM

Yes, I reinstalled... My system? 1.8 Gig. 512 Ram. I can run Poser 5, Photoshop 7.0, AOL, and several sites on Mozilla Firefox all at once with no issues. Carrara will just not let me use transposer.  There are apparently no remedies. No support to be had. Caveat Emptor.

Hi Toomuchtime, Sorry to hear that you're having problems. I use Carrara/transposer combo almost daily with no problems. Sometimes, certian .pz3 files have specific issues that are created by Poser itself. What kind of file are you trying to import? If it's loaded with characters or complex geometry, that might be one of the issues. Have you tried just a single plain character first? Also, any time I've had a question and called DAZ/Carrara tech support, they've been very helpful to resolve the issues I've had. I'm sure that they're closed over the weekend but will be back on Monday. We'll get it working for you! :-) Mark

Hmmm.  I know importing Poser files uses a ton of system resources, especially RAM.  It could be an issue of not enough RAM.  I run with 2GB and sometimes I run into trouble if I try to import too many poser figures.  My last post to the galleries here had three poser figures and their clothes in it, transposed to C5 Pro it took about 20 minutes total for the software to get them imported, each one took progressively longer, nd I know that it made the system use a ton of virtual memory.  So you may simply be running out of RAM or virtual RAM.  Just a suggestion.

I'm trying to import or open PZ3 files. I have tried loading only single figures and I've tried complicated scenes. In each intance, I get the same error message using Transposer. I can import scenes involving multiple figures, (up to nine so far) in the "native" importer, so I doubt its a memory issue. My computer, while not one of the new monster boxes, has always been a workhorse. Carrara does use far more resources than Poser 5, I'll agree to that, but I doubt it's memory related in this particular case.

Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions. They are much appreciated. I've been frustrated with Daz support in general.  After emailing back and forth with 3-4 day lapse between   e-mails, for 2 weeks over a $1.99 Platinum club item,  I gave up. Life's too short, lol. I can imagine how long an issue this complex could take.

Do they have phone support? That's something I would pay dearly for. I know they have limited resources, but it seems unfair to provide weak support over a fairly big ticket item.

Again, many thanks!

Hi TMT, Yes, they do have phone support. That's how I've worked with them in the past. But I believe it's Mon.-Fri. Digging through the cobwebs of my mind thinking about your issue. Have you changed the name of the folder that Poser is in? I do remember something like that biting folks a couple of times. I've trying to track down the TransPoser read-me that I thought addressed little "gotcha's" like that but haven't found it yet. Mark

Toomuchtime ( ) posted Sun, 30 July 2006 at 1:08 PM

No, I didn't change it to my knowledge. It's in C/Programfiles/CuriousLabs/Poser5, Mark. I believe that's where it should be.. As I said, the "native" importer finds thing just fine.  I appreciate the heads up on the Phone Support. That's a major plus. I'm sure it's something simple but obscure. I learned that going into Poser and deleting certain Files in "Lidrary Prefs" will cure some Poser problems. I even tried that to help this problem. Didn't work.

Thanks again, Mark!

I seem to remember hearing about a problem like that when T2 first came out.  Are you using the option to keep the link to the poser file?  If so try unchecking it, as well as unchecking to keep the lighting and any animation.

nomuse ( ) posted Wed, 02 August 2006 at 3:01 PM

Ouch. As I said in the other thread, Transposer2 seems to work very smoothly on the Mac (unusual in itself...!) I have yet to find a scene that actually bollixes it, even when I have to help it look through multiple Runtimes to find scattered parts of a scene. However, dynamic hair requires that the link to the Poser file be kept, and Animation has to be checked as well. I assume you have been methodical enough to try importing an empty scene, or one with nothing but a primitive cube, as well as importing direct from cr2... It might be possible to zero in on where the problem is happening.

Toomuchtime ( ) posted Wed, 02 August 2006 at 5:31 PM

No, I have not tried importing nor opening an empty scene with Transposer. Frustration oftentimes leaves methodical thoughts in a cloud of dust.. I'll have to give it a try.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I've had occasional trouble with Transposer, so I can understand your frustration. But the trick is to not give up! Poser's a very demanding program as far as system resources go, so any program try to deal with the many-headed Hydra which is Poser is bound to run into a glitch or two.

First, try importing the scene with Native Import. I often find that Native Import is just fine for Poser Imports, plus you get the benefit of using Poser Poses on figures you import with Native.

If that doesn't work, try importing characters one at a time (with clothing on). Usually it's one piece of clothing which creates problems, so the trick is to narrow it down.

I usually import figures and characters with Native Import, then import background scenes and props with TransPoser to keep the lighting arrangements. That usually does it for me.

Good luck!

Toomuchtime ( ) posted Sat, 05 August 2006 at 7:06 PM

Thanks, Sphinx. I've tried all those things. I can import with Native import, but transposer will just not work. The more I check around, the more I see that this is not an unusual issue. It seems to be fairly common. I'm sure someone will come up with something, who knows?

DigitalShinobi ( ) posted Sun, 06 August 2006 at 4:16 PM

What version of poser do you have ? if it's P6 make sure external binary morphs are checked, also make sure you have updated Carrara to 5.1 from the DAZ  download site. I use Transposer and native importer without any problems.

Toomuchtime ( ) posted Sun, 06 August 2006 at 6:11 PM

I am trying to import or "Open" from Poser 5. I just bought it 2 weeks ago. Are there already updates? You are fortunate that your Transposer works. From people I have had contact with, many have buggy versions where Transposer will not work. Why? I don't know. That's what I'm trying to find out.

Thanks for your help.

Poser 5 should have no problems, but like I said, there is an update for Carrara %5 Pro, I have already updated mine to Carrara 5.1 Pro last week and everything runs fine.

Here's the link http://www.daz3d.com/support/downloads.php?product=car_down

Hope it helps :)
